Totally agree! the most important thing is that you are enjoying the process. I'm late to the party but interested to see how you progress over the years to come. 😁👍
Nice! I’ll be tuning in for the High Elves, I’ve already done my IOB griffon and am super happy with it, done in Eltharion style blue white crest and looks great. I’ve also done 6 Sword masters and still need to do the Sea Gaurd and reavers plus the bajillion other elves I have ….
My year three planning is to Annual goal: watch all Hammer the Backlog target setting and reviews including annual and quarterly instalments. Quarterly goals: watching 1st quarter start and finish videos within a week of upload. Bonus goals: explore HammertheBacklog content outside of TH-cam.
Good luck, with this and your honeymoon! I'd have thought the genestealers would be quite quick to paint - lots of organic surfaces that will take effects paint well!
Thanks a lot! Honeymoon was great, I survived and am back hammering away at the pile. I think I'm traumatised by genestealers after batch painting the whole Space Hulk set about 10 years ago, pre contrast era!
This is gonna be an awesome year! Particularly keen to see those birdmen painted! I’ve been setting and meeting targets as well this year (I’ve been painting a Rogue Trader Chaos army for the Old World Army Challenge if anyone’s interested) and I can only vouch for this method. It really helps to set goals and have the accountability of documenting it. Best of luck!
The actor who played "Outside Broadcast Mick" made some interesting choices in portraying the character... Loved the update! Have been watching these since the beginning and absolutely love when a new video pops up!
Tip for batch painting Deathwatch: base paint their armor and left silver arms, guns too if you want. Then the only individual parts that might take awhile is their individual Faces ans Shoulder pads. 😎
I look forward to seeing your inevitable triumph in yet another year of painting! By now, it is plainly evident that your system works wonders for getting models finished to a high standard. In fact, inspired by your work, I'm going to start arranging my own hobby time in a similar manner.
I painted basically the whole High Elves army a couple of years ago. Those Lothern Sea Guard are much more detailed than most of the HE range. Just an FYI to expect to take a little more time to get through them. Good luck!
Will have to check out your blog! I keep stumbling over my own plany mostly cause I assume at the start of the year that I can basically spend 24/7 on painting. Which I never do!
Always sounds like you have some Chaos Dwarf slaves in the background banging and hissing steam making you your new batch of miniatures. Good luck with the painting targets Mick!
Just found your channel today (through youtube reccomendations). And i subscribed because this is sutch a inspiering initiative :) i have just been in the hobby for 10 years, but i have still ended up with a huge backlog. And ypur videos makes me whant to join you in working on what i have rather than looking for new stuff :D
Alright Mick, got a question for you. How do you stick with the same four projects throughout the entire year? Not even talking buying something, how do you not grab something else off the shelf and paint it instead? Because if I can figure that out, I can probably start taking swaths of figures out of my unpainted pile.
Great question. First of all, I don't completely. I allow myself a week or two spare where I can squeeze in a passion project. For example, I just painted a squad of 5 retro iron warriors that we're part of a target. On the other hand, the whole point of this project is finding the joy in what I have, instead of being tempted!
Hi Mick, I have loved following your blog for the last few months (and had such a great few weeks at work catching up on the backlog of posts! You're a great painter, but I have also been really interested in how you have set targets and stuck to them - very impressive! Some personal feedback on the videos if you don't mind: Your intro music is fine and sets the tone well, but the loud whoosh at 32s in drowns you out - might be an idea to balance that out in future videos if you haven't already clocked it! Cheers, Offie
I talked about it in one of the older videos, and a podcast I did with The Crown of Command, I think. For a lot of people, having their models fully painted for a game is their "Mission Accomplished", they have achieved what they want with the model. Since I don't really play very much, I was always missing that goal, which is probably partly why I have so many unfinished projects. I discovered that getting my models finished, photographed and uploaded publicly i.e instagram, my blog, reddit, gave me that Mission Accomplished feeling even if no one ever looked at them!

@@trevorharvey6928 I have a few years left to go for sure! Welcome aboard.
Geez I glanced at the thumbnail and immedilatey thought 'Bill Burr's into Warhammer! Hell yeah!' Geat video btw!
Was so hopeful you would choose the island of blood models. Guess I'll just need to hang around a while yet.
you're on the hook!
@hammerthebacklog ive been watching since year 1, was already on the hook. 🤣
Love the ideas here and the overall theme of your journey, get some use from those investments!

Nice! PArt of me thinks the prince was originally going to be Eltharion.

You are a Paragon of the Hammer the Backlog method!
Good luck! Espacially with those High Elves - I am looking forward to next year then :D
They are going to be a challenge, for sure!
Good luck, with this and your honeymoon!

Amazing! If there's anything I can help with, let me know!
I ❤ these videos! Thanks for sharing and all the best for year 3! 😃
Best of luck with this year's goals Mick.
Mick is ready to rock ! I really want to see what he chooses for the 1st quarter !
Good luck for you targets! Look forward to seeing the progress
This has got me feeling motivated!

Wonderful projects for the coming year! I may just join you each quarter to address my own backlog as well. Thank you for the inspiration!
Please do! That would be amazing!

The Achievable part of SMART is what you need to look at!
Genestealers is a really cool target. Granted all the fantasy stuff is always fascinating to watch since they have such vibrant colors.

Yes! Get on it! Remember what you liked about those figs and get them done!

I interrupted my holiday for this😂
No such thing as holidays in the Hammer the Backlog method!
I've got the Island of Blood box, I've built the Bird and the Skaven Warlord. I'm undecided whether or not to put them on Old World size bases
Empire? 😃
High Elves? 🤩
Dogs of War? 😻
Could Year 3 be the best one so far!?
I certainly hope so!
Good luck
The trays are ready to go
Mild spoilers in the thumbnail, I've just realised!
Great video dropped u a sub looking forward to seeing the process
Awesome thank you!
You have to order it when it can be made.

Is that all you paint in a year or is this just the backlog part and you paint new stuff parallel to this?
No, this is it! I'm a filthy casual, so I only paint about 15 hours a week.
An honest question here. What does getting your models online mean?

Surprised GW haven’t told you to change your logo knowing how petty they are
Im scared to calculate my pile of shame in painting time 😬
Don't be, embrace it. Let it pass through you. When the fear passes, only you will remain.
Paint studio la di dah, I just call it a paint hole
I'm a frenchman
Then that should really be a paint laboratoire
