Paloma cocktail here in Mexico my home.country is made of "Squirt"! That is the mexican grapefruit soda, and of course i recommended the Traditional Tequila from Casa Cuervo
For the expert version, two words: oleo saccharum. Take the peels (no pith) from about 4 grapefruits and combine them with about a cup of sugar in a small sealed freezer bag (take as much air out as you can with displacement method). After a 12-24 hrs the sugar will be saturated with the oils from the peels. Now heat the peels and sugar mixture up in a small saucepan for 20mins with 1 cup of water and another cup of sugar. Drain that into a jar and you'll have a grapefruit syrup that kicks up the Paloma to another level. Use the now-candied peels as a garnish, put one on a skewer or put it into the glass. Add lime juice, tequila, soda water, grapefruit juice and a dash of bitters with some ice. Expert level achieved.
This is an amazing idea, home version of cocktails with, well, the stuff you have at home, and honestly what most of us have usually at home. Immediately subscribed lol
I usually make mine with lime juice, grapefruit juice and grapefruit soda (Squirt or Ting). A happy medium between home and pro. Love palomas! Espolon or Lunazul 100% agave tequila for me.
HI everyone, i'm a bartender in the North of México and i really recomend Maestro Dobel Diamante Tequila which a blend of reposados (3-6 month aged in barrel), añejos (12 months aged in barrel) and extra añejos (more than 36 months aged in barrel), it's also the premium line of Casa Cuervo Tequila, it cost $30-$40 and has a smooth and sweet touch at the end, i also recomend Don Julio 70 Tequila and if you want something diferent try Mezcal which is the cousin of the Tequila For the rim i recomend use Tajin which is a very popular mexican chili powder or look for other similar stuff in mexican super markets, nice video and thanks
I love the final one. But I would make any of them! I would add a bit of agave nectar to the second one because I prefer it a bit sweet. Thank you! Great recipes.
I'm making some with Fever Tree grapefruit soda and cheap tequila, having a nice time! I might like this drink better than a margarita, excited to try other versions
In Mexico the traditional Paloma has all the edge rimmed with salt, also we always use tequila and grapefruit soda. The last one looks delicious but here it wouldn't be considered a Paloma because of the mezcal, it would be a signature cocktail. Also really recommend Maestro Dobel tequila, I'm sure you can get it in the US, it's my family's favourite.
Definitely gonna try the at home version lol like many who already commented my grandparents have used Squirt grapefruit soda. Ima make it for them they deserve the working man's drink
I stumbled on a nice mix of ice, lime, tonic water peychauds bitters, tequila and Squirt soda, it’s real pink with a refreshing tart/bitter finish. Looks like the first one you made.
I still prefer the expert way of grapefruit juice, soda water, agave, lime juice, pinch of salt, and then whip shake with a dried lime and dried grapefruit wedge. It’s so freaking delicious 🤤
Vlad, I once made a paloma for valentines day for a restaurant i worked it was sliver agave tequilla, with fresh made watermelon juice a lil of lemon juice, a lil bit of simple syrup with rose water. how would you rate that combination ? garnished with a lilt slice of watermelon on the glass
Every couple of weeks I'll buy a handle of Espolon reposado for 44 bucks and that's the only liquor I buy now a days, it's my favorite and mixes well into everything I like
I had a paloma for the first time last year and fell in love with it. I also made a version with ruby red absolut because a friend of mine can’t have tequila and I topped it with fever-tree grapefruit soda. I think work better with white grapefruit juice.
Хочу попробовать текилу Teremana. Любимая текила Casamigos!! Reposado и Blanco. Mezcal конечно очень специфический.... И как всегда, спасибо за классные видео!
I finally got the Teremana tequila, I got a bottle that hopefully I will crack open this week. I normally get 1800 in the 30-35 dollar range but espolon is quickly becoming one of my favorite cheaper tequilas.
even though most mexicans do it with squirt soda I will be trying your version by the way, maestro tequilero is a great 100 percent agave tequila blanco and it's about 20 dollars I believe
Use forteleza blanco tequila its made with tradition has olive notes and a subtle fresh ground pepper taste with tastes of butter, minerals and citrus, with a hint of vegetal taste. Its still strength made in copper ground with stone made by one of the famous sauza family. Its perfection in a bottle. Speaking of bottle its blown glass in house.
I love how you bother with multiple versions of the same cocktail without proceeding to just add better liqour or fruit. Like you actually bother with things like improved glasses, garnish, decoration, ingredients and color. Really ur so creative!
Alright, here's mine. Were gonna do a Grapefruit infusion: - Take 4-6 Grapefruit depending on size, uses a peeler to remove the colored portion avoiding the rime(the white bit, it's bitter). - Once you have your peels add them to your Tequila or Mezcal and let marinate for 2-3 weeks. - If this is too long for you, this process can be sped up but it involves cooking alcohol, so proceed at your own risk. Take a pot of water shallow enough for your vessel holding your spirits to sit without floating, make sure the lid is off and you don't have an open flame, you are going to want to bring the temperature of the water up to 150F/66C, raise the Vessel of the bottom of the pot and cook for 30 minutes. I recommend having a fan blowing to avoid any vapor build up. From here we are going to do 1 1/2 infused spirit, 1/4oz Agave Nectar, finish with club soda, rim with Tajin seasoning if you can get your hands on it(We have the internet). As for garnish and glass, go with what works, hi-ball, 3 cubes, grapefruit but this time I suggest a wedge with Tajin on one side(for eating not squeezing). For those who don't know Tajin is a salty, spicy, tangy, seasoning that is amazing on fruit and would be perfect for this drink.
💡Please note that in the good ole days Squirt was used sometimes because the original Squirt, the version made before 1977, was made with real grapefruit. 💡There is a difference between Mexico Squirt and USA Squirt….While Mexican Squirt can be found in both markets, it's more ubiquitous on the West Coast. Notably, Mexican Squirt is sweetened with *cane sugar*, while the U.S. version employs *high-fructose corn syrup* and we could taste the difference. The Squirt on the market today is trash, like mostly all other sodas / soft drinks sold these days…don’t drink that crap, it’s not healthy. 💡IMHO the absolute best tasting Paloma drink is made with real fresh grapefruit juice from the actual fruit, not from a carton, can etc, mix with the other ingredients and top with club soda water. 💡I know what I’m talking about because my dad is Mexican and he said he used to make them with real grapefruit juice and sometimes he used Squirt back in the old days when it was made with real grapefruits if he didn’t have enough grapefruits.
I just made a grapefruit cadillac margarita last week, well 3 actually cause I needed to get it right, it was rimmed with pink Himilayan course salt, 1oz agave nectar 1oz lime juice 2oz grapefruit juice fresh 1oz tequila blanco (Hornitos), black barrel Hornitos might just elevate it, 1/2oz grand marnier shaken and into a double rocks glass with ice, topped with a float of 1/2oz grand marnier. Let me know anyone that tries it, I enjoyed it.
Are you sure about the knife trick? I always heard that technique with the Batanga cocktail. Because the mex mafia used to drink batangas. #greatlearning
I wonder how are you supposed to drink that? Do you lick the salt off the glass, or put your mouth on the salt and drink it without the straw , or is the salt just for decoration purposes and just drink it with a straw?
I'm sorry, why are we sticking salt or pepper if we are gonna drink with pipe? Is it because of first try we drinking with salt and after that with pipe or something?
Tequila "Reserva de la Familia" white or reposado, Tequila "Maestro Dobel" cristalino, Tequila "Don Julio" reposado or cristalino, would be amazing ones for the pro version
Vlad SlickBartender centenario is actually a quite famous one back in Mexico, they make the usual, reposado, claro and anejo of-course is very good! Give it try mate love your videos keep up the content!
Paloma cocktail here in Mexico my home.country is made of "Squirt"! That is the mexican grapefruit soda, and of course i recommended the Traditional Tequila from Casa Cuervo
I prefer my palomas whit Don Julio 70
Yeah when I been in Mexico they use squirt soda to make them. But squirt is not Mexican.
@@ottmarmontes that is correct, was created at 1938 in TEXAS...
but i mean they still mexicans....
I have always read it was created by a man named Herb Bishop in Phoenix, Arizona circa 1938. Don't know if the guy is of Mexican heritage.
I make mine with grapefruit Jarritos, but Squirt works too.

By salt and pepper he means Salt and Chili guys. Maybe a small amount of Black Pepper if you're trying things.

I did mine with a grapefruit oleo saccrum and Dobel tequila. Turned out beautifully.
I will put salt on the complete glass border, I really like the salt sensation in my mouth when it mix with the lemon and grape touch.
I have been doing this cocktail all quarantine without realizing what it is but still nice vid

Just dobel and squirt, nothing else is needed
Maestro dobel is a bad tequila, not even close to what a natural quality made tequila would taste like

Okaaay Vlad.. now I gotta try a Paloma 😍😂
Make sure drink the one with Mezcal eh
Here are some good tequila brands and their price ranges in USD.
$20-25 Jimador and Hornitos.
$30-35 Espolon, Centenario and 1800
Jimador is really bad. Is dont even made from agave.
My favorite go to tequila is Maestro Double platinum tequila and it goes for around 50 USD. Definitely worth it

In Mexico they made it with Squirt (a grapefuit soda) and it is the easiest and cheapest version.
I like to make this with gin, its also really good
Basically a greyhound. I love to mix gin and grapefruit juice.
Cimarron Reposado is a great alternative to the Teremana!
