- Part 4 of 4. Jeremy, Richard and James May were challenged to each buy a supercar for less than £10,000 and drive them from Bristol to Slough. Its the last leg of their journey, but with Jeremy's car going up in smoke will they ever make it to their destination?

James's Lamborghini was sold to a Lamborghini collector in the UK after the challenge, fully repaired painted orange and on February 8 2011 it was sold to a collector in Brisbane Australia. And after that, the Australian collector sold it in June 2013 to an another collector again in Australia. Jeremy's Maserati was scrapped and Richard bought the Ferrari restored it fully and kept it
So basically what should happen to any old Maserati

@@danielalexander8588 After that you can search "top gear Lamborghini Urraco" You'll see there a listing of the car to be sold in Australia, painted orange. You can verify the authenticity of the car by looking at the license plate, which is the same when James owned it. SRW49N is the plate. I did some digging cause why not hahah

TheYorkMan to be fair that engine wasn't properly rebuilt. The other 2 managed not to blow up.

Lucas Gawor Dinos aren't fake Ferraris! They were another branch of Ferrari to make a cheaper car then what the Ferraris were but mind you they were expensive then other supercars. They did cost less then Ferraris so they keep to their word.
Yea it would've actually made it all the way with almost no mechanical problems of any sort had it not run out of fuel
True stress: Being in a shitty car that's one bump away from having the engine fall apart while you wait for the fuel to run out once and for all...
And not getting steak on the set.

True stress indeed. Smelling burning oil and hearing your engine start to knock... While you're stuck behind a train and can't go anywhere. Ditch and trees on either side of the road, people behind you, train in front of you, no oil in the engine.
That's always fun.
Yeah its rough. I remember begging my car to keep going at every stop light. Hoping to wouldn't run out of gas or the engine would kill itself
Well apart from a caravan of camera and crew cars behind you.
In summary, Hammond got himself a pretty sweet deal, May would probably have been okay if he'd had a little more time and money to do some essential maintenance, and Clarkson would probably have been better off taking his £10,000 to the races and gambling it on a 99-1 shot.

The best car out of all of the cars featured on this challenge was the Astra - it did the fastest lap time, would have been more reliable and economical on fuel (so no breaking down), and would have been the same price or less than those "supercars"... :p

This reminds me of something my grandfather used to say: those supercars are so fast that they can pass anything except for a gas station!
My RX-7 with a nominal displacement of 1300cc liked petrol so much that in heavy traffic you could see the fuel gauge dropping by the minute. I did a lot of switching off at red lights and coasting whenever possible.

Yeah, the cars were used so they became cheaper, but it's like saying I bought a Veneno for 10 Grand.

The budget was $10,000. They all spent less than that. Keep in mind too that this was in 2006 or 2007. You also need to factor in th price ratio of the cars when new. $10,000 for a car that was $60,000 new is the same ratio as a $500 car to $4,000.
I've bought cars that went a lot further for $200 but they weren't that pretty.
Top Tip: Yes, you can buy a supercar for less than £10,000 but for the love of God, DON’T!
I always loved the cheap car challenges on TG. The one thing that always stuck out for me was how they'd buy cars that were borderline wrecks and get them across vast countries over oppressive terrain, but they couldn't get these three cars up a 90 mile stretch of the A4.
Just goes to show why Italian cars have the reputation they do
Might have something to do with a back-up team expert mechanics- with the finest tools money can buy - following them wherever they go, behind the cameras of course - but in this challenge they were instructed not to intervene.
According to some sources, Jeremy's Maserati got scrapped after filming. Richard restored the Dino and kept it for several years until he wrecked it and it had to be scrapped too. James' Lamborghini was also restored and is now located in Australia, it's the only one of the three cars still alive.
That's a shame about the Ferrari being wrecked.

Interesting theory. Some cars, a Pt Cruiser for example, you get more petrol going downhill. I learnt that when I first started taking up motor mechanics classes.

Those classic super cars are like super models; they age quickly, expensive to fix and love them for what they used to look like (although they're still extremely beautiful), and if you get one you'll always regret.

The original broadcast version had loads of songs from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction (Little Green Bag, Misirlou, Rumble and Stuck in the Middle with You being some)

+Nathan Critchley i believe older cars use a float system to measure the amount of fuel in the tank, said floats are usually in a corner of the tank :p
But less Electricity. Since you've gotta use indicators.
As wrong as the gauges had been all along, it was as good a theory as any. And as they confirmed it was Hammond's *_electrics_* that broke, it never really did run out of fuel.

If I want music to listen to while gaming, I listen to either finnish radio or czech radio, if I want to relax, I just bring a top gear video from like 6 years ago up, the music in this matched everything perfectly, I am a bit late to this but I guess you were not wrong. Especially towards the end with the Ferrari that could not do it.
Someone watched every single Tarantino movies way too many times.

Tóth Arnold To be fair, Lambo's mechanical parts from the 1970s could do their job if treated and maintained properly, but the electrical ones are rubbish. So if you decide to buy a Lamborghini from the 1970s change all of them.

The cars James hits when parking were actually the production crews cars which is why Jeremy and Richard got such easy access, and why they weren't more shocked when James smashed into it (i.e it wasn't someone else's cars)
Top gear is so legendary. It was truly great television. Good music, good photography, and filmography, good presenters, great humor. Great show
Even now 15+ years later the scene of James trying to park is hilarious. Also need to point out how amazing the soundtrack is to this whole challenge. The best Top Gear and Grand Tour episode by far.
the part where “Everything she does is magic” by The Police came on,it goes so well with richard hammonds ferarri.
Despite the pointlessness of the scoring, this has to be one of the best Top Gear challenges ever produced! The soundtrack was perfect especially ending it with Nessun Dorma! Let's hope the boys can recreate more memorable moments like this in the new Amazon series!

What I find most interesting is how the supercar market has changed in the recent years. Realistically, the cheapest "supercar" you can buy today is a 2007/2008 Audi R8 4.2 for about 35-40k.

This is why no other top gears or any other car shows can beat these 3 guys.

Sounded to me like oil was too low and the cams didn't like it. Then a valve hit a piston and everything came apart.

The good thing is, you can restore all of these cars. The weber carbs are easy to tune if you know what you're doing and the electrical wiring is not all that complicated (even if you're not an electrician).
But what about today's cars? All of them have seat warmers and power everything plus computer screens and fancy technology. I know a guy who is restoring an XJ220 and he says that it is near impossible to fix the computers on that thing. I shudder for everything that has an OBD2 port or later (2000+)
I don't have much hope for the Masserati though, The Dino and the Lambo can probably be restored. As for 2000+ cars: It's really only a matter of time before you'll see the first remote exploits on the CAN bus. A nightmare really
I agree, post 2000 cars are really junk once they get some serious miles on them and don't have the collectable status previous generations of cars did.
in 30 years, it will probably be impossible to have a fully functioning oldtimer.

I have never owned a car, they simply were like religion, I could live without them.
I have never had a license let alone taken a driving lesson. I'm in my mid 60's now
and for all this, I loved this show in it's entirety for the duration that it ran with these
3 personalities at the helm. They were the best in every essence and the reports and
pranks they got up to, all the lad-larks and so forth made this show totally addictive.
No matter what the reasons or excuses, the BBC bolloxed up Big time when they, in
their usual wisdom, took the original show off the air. Truly the end of a very great era.
Thank you to all 3 for making me laugh for so many years, you are sorely missed. M.

Lamborghini Uracco is one of the prettiest cars ever made
Clarkson (as usual) is wrong! the "Dino" 308 GT4 was originally branded as a Ferrari!(and the engine block says Ferrari!) The previous REAL "Dino" 246 GT was NEVER branded a Ferrari (owners put a Ferrari badge on it!) and the engine block actually says FIAT!! Sob!! But you know which one to have!!!
What Clarkson means is that when it came out in 1973, it was branded a Dino. From 1976 onwards yes it was sold a Ferrari, but in the early years of production the 308 GT4 was sold under the Dino brand.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Very informative and entertaining at the same time. Had me LOL several times. Great sound track! Excellent production! Cheers!

you know I just thought of something, if someone says its had a 10 G engine job in the ad, that means someone told him it would be 10 G to fix it and he's just decided to sell it on.

Jame's takes a lot of stick from the other two but he got his own back here. His "small technical point - Your engine didn't cut out. It disintegrated" properly had me rolling. 🤣
I love how "Stuck In The Middle With You" was played while James would be constantly getting stuck between cars and tried to parallel park.
