I’m a BYU fan and this has got me in tears. What an unfathomable impact Coach Snyder had on K-State and Manhattan overall. If every community could have a Coach Snyder, I’m convinced that most of the world’s problems would go away. What an inspiration! Go Widcats!
There is not a single other university affiliated program that would post this about an opponent. Truly a first class university and team. Why is byu hated so much?
it's not BYU that's hated, it's their religion. I don't dislike Mormons in general, but I was fired from my last company that was owned by BYU grads who were very religiously mormon and they fired me because I wasn't religious lol.
Die hard life long Cat here, I have been watching pre game podcasts/posts from other teams and their media for years and years now. There are quite a few good ones out there, but I have yet to see a program go to the lengths you have here to honor and teach about one of our most special people and times in KState history. He means the world to MHK, I hate to imagine what saturdays would be like in Manhattan without him. Goodluck on saturday and in the many matchups we will have after that. I hope they are all electric. Heres to a great season for both squads!
As a life long BYU fan, I was very touched by this story. I had no idea they had lost so many games in a row when Coach Snyder took over. He is a great man, and I sure appreciated his advice at the end of this piece.
More than that. First program to lose 500 games. In early 1950’s Coach Bill Meek started winning and asked for a raise for his staff. University President said he would rather use the money to plow the football field under. He was President for 25 years. And then everyone thought it was an inherent problem with us. K-State football is a masterclass in the impact of leadership. President Jon Wefald said we could win and we did.
This is wonderful, Cougars. This K-Stater appreciates your effort and focus on the positive lessons. It's extraordinary how many Kansans have personal stories to tell about Coach Snyder, and he is the example I will always point to to demonstrate the impact an athletic coach can have on an entire university and community, beyond the football field. Welcome to the Big 12!
As a life long BYU fan, it’s so cool to get to know the great programs in the big12 and the amazing people that built them! Nothing but respect for coach Snyder and KSU.
Beautifully done and a lot of profound wisdom on how we should all live our lives. KSU and BYU were blessed to be led by great men like Lavell Edwards and Bill Snyder. Respect to BYU; so happy to have you in the Big 12.

Wow, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you BYU for being a great addition to our conference. I can't wait to visit Provo and LES for my first time this Saturday! Go Big XII!
Dang it is someone cutting onions? Thank you BYU sports nation for this video. Snyder is a legend and you showcased many attributes here that describe why he is. Always a class act.
Thank you BYU for posting this. This is why we love our university. Notice what the stadium looked like early in the video compared to what it looks like now. Bill Snyder did that.
BYU does a pregame show outside the stadium each homegame. A large number of students and fans show up to the event. They show these videos on a giant screen to introduce the opponent. Its amazing to see the younger generation of students, fans, and even fans of the opposing team come together and show respect for each other in celebration of the game.

I'm late to the table. I'm writing this after the Big 12 After Dark. There is only one work that fits this video and the game, CLASS! This is a CLASS act from a CLASS University. I hate losing, but if it happens (and it well to everyone) it's nice to know not only did we lose to a very good team, but to one of the CLASSIER acts in the nation! Congrats on the win and THANK YOU for the video! EMAW
A lot of us here in the comment section grew up during the lean years of K-State football and are so appreciative of what Coach Snyder and others did to bring this program to where it is today. I'm also appreciative of this BYUtv production. Nicely done! 👍
I was at K-State from 1984 - 1989, when only 6 football games were won (and 3 of those were the first year). We were truly awful at that time, but Bill Snyder turned that around. Thanks to BYU for creating an inspiring look at this great leader!
Thank you so much to BYU for doing this. I lived this! At KSU immediately pre Coach Snyder. We were that bad. I tear up every time I watch the video of the Hernandez catch and hear Mitch Holthus on the call. AND the stadium like it looked in the late 80s. Coach Snyder is the best ever!!
What a great story - a remarkable program turnaround and a very remarkable man. Always inspiring to learn about a great success built on goodness, caring. Good luck at the game this weekend, KSU. Much respect. And go BYU!
Thank you for sharing this BYU Nation! A truly inspirational story for all of college athletics. Best of luck to you all this weekend and for the rest of the season!
Wow, what a great story and an even greater man. I did not know any of these details before watching this but glad I took time this afternoon to watch. My mother is from Kansas and I have family still living in the state, some of the greatest people in the world. We bleed BYU blue in our family but this certainly makes me want to cheer for Kansas State as well… just not this Saturday! 😄 Thanks for putting this together BYUtv! GoCougs GoWildcats
I still consider myself a Kansan, even though I haven't lived in the state since I was 7 and a half years old. It's my favorite of the states I've lived in, and I've lived in many states...
If you would like to have a bit more detail of how it started, the obstacles, the failures, but the belief to keep going his first few years created the players called "The Foundation"..players that turned the program around but never got to play in a bowl game. I have traveled extensively in the Salt Lake area. The people of Utah are almost a mirror image of the people of my state, Kansas. Great folks. Good luck Saturday, GO CATS EMAW!!!
Snyder is the reason I grew up a KState fan. He became the coach in my dad's senior year at KSU, and because of Snyder doing what he did, he gave me something to do with my father every few weekends because aside from football, I didn't get to see my dad that much. I ended up choosing to go to school at Kansas State in 2012-2017 because of Snyder. Just like he did, when I went on my college visit, I fell in love with not only the school, but the people were wonderful, and still are. I was at his last game when he first retired, and nearly every single home game when he came back, as well as his final game. Truly one of the greatest coaches of all time. Will always love that man and be so incredibly grateful for what he did and still does to this day.
I remember watching games with my dad in KSU stadium prior to Coach Snyder. I have fond memories of getting autographs and playing football with other kids on the field after the games. What Coach Snyder did for K-State and Manhattan will never be done again anywhere. Thank you for making this video BYU!
The day will eventually come when Bill Snyder will no longer walk on this earth. But his name will undoubtedly pass the test of time in Manhattan, KS. Thank you for bringing me to tears, thinking about a man who has done so much for me, even though I’ve only met him a handful of times.
What a gracious and kind man he is. I had the privilege of listening to Coach Snyder speak at the KSHSAA coaches clinic on of my last years of coaching at the HS level. I wasn't a football coach, but I couldn't wait to make my way into the room where he was going to speak. It was a packed house and as I remember he spoke more about character and pride rather than football plays. Admire the way he handles adversity with his athletes and people in general. What an incredible legacy he has made for himself. Thank you Coach Snyder for all of your positivity you have given to KSU and everyone that you come in contact with. God bless you and may His angels surround you!
In addition to being a prime example of leading by example, doing things the right way, he was also a brilliant football mind. Was an innovator of many modern concepts - Urban Meyer credits him with developing the zone read/power spread. Will never be another. I wish he would have won a NC in 1998 to crown this amazing story.
Mad respect for BYU Sports Nation for doing this! It's not often you see another university give this amount of respect to an opposing teams legendary coach. THANK YOU!
Barry Switzer once said that Snyder wasn’t the coach of the year, or even the coach of the decade - he was the coach of the century. “Doing it again just proves how amazing it was the first time - that it wasn’t a fluke,” Switzer says. “And how old is he? 72? I’m telling you, he’s my hero.”
Thank you for doing this interview BYUTV! I love how you dedicated part of the video to Bill's letter-writing, it shows his true, caring nature and we love to see it highlighted.
Coach Snyder did for KSU what Levell did for our BYU. My grandparents left everything behind in there quiet island paradise of Tonga in search of opportunities for education. They came to the US with nothing to their name but a few dollars and a dream in their heart. Being LDS, grandpa bought a house here in Provo in 1970 where my aunt lives to this day. BYU at that point was one of the worst teams in the country but grandpa wished for his kids to attend school there. My dad did exactly that and played football for the legendary Lavell Edwards. Later, my uncles Vai Sikahema, Lakei Heimuli, Joe Olive, Junior Filiaga and many others played. BYU went from the worst to winning it all in 1984 and since then, my brother who is BYU's runningbacks coach played there. I played there and my first cousins played there. This documentary for Coach Snyder reminds me of the impact someone can have on your life as a coach. Something that Lavell told my dad was "To the world, you may be just 1. But to just 1, you may be the world." Coach Snyder is exactly that for KSU and my hat goes off to him for paving the way for future generations to reap the sweet fruit from tilling a barron foundation in the beginning. Much respect and love for doing the hard work. God Bless you Coach Snyder!!! From a BYU football alum 🙏🏽💯🤝🏽
This is incredible. Thanks! BYU goes above and beyond introducing opponents to their fans. Hopefully this helps you understand why K-State is a little different.
"Live a righteous life, and enjoy every moment of it." - Bill Snyder. Great way to end the telling of a fantastic story about one of the truly great figures in college football history. BYU is a class act. (Disclosure: I'm a BYU [and OU] alum, but by any standard, BYU should is valued conference-mate. Who else does stuff like this?)
Wyatt Thompson is without a doubt one of the greatest sports broadcasters of all time. I have been a wildcat fan for 24 years (as long as I’ve been alive) and I have several memories of falling asleep in the car ride home from KSU games listening to post game talks and interviews with Wyatt Thompson. He is an absolute legend and is underrated. We are blessed to have him calling our games. Go cats. Thank you BYU.
Outstanding job BYU! What a classy move and welcome to the BIG XII. I think Bill's approach to life would be a good example for anyone trying to do the right thing and putting others first. Thank you for this from someone that came to KSU after Iraq in 1991.
A great coaching match up: LaVell Edwards vs Bill Snyder: 1996 Cotton Bowl. As a K-Stater who was there in Big D, I am still looking for one more score. Sark was your quarterback and he went against one of the strongest, hardest hitting (granted different rules in those days) defensive teams that K-State assembled. I think both teams have the same quality coaches in this matchup on Saturday. Go K-State!
I was holding my 6 week old baby son during that game, and I yelled when we scored on the 1st half Hail Mary and woke him up! He'll be 28 in November, and has 2 sons of his own who I've tried to make into Wildcat fans, hard to do here in Columbus, Ohio.
As a BYU fan, I’m grateful that we are inspired by great leaders no matter where they are. K state fans - what an amazing man who led your team and changed so many lives! I understand why you love him so much.
In the early years Snyder spent most of the post game press conferences encouraging people to attend the games. You'd be hard pressed to find a town more bought into their team and that is a big part of the Snyder legacy.
Classy move by you BYU! I’ve stepped away from being a diehard kstate fan, partially because of all the changes. This man was loyal, he could have gone anywhere to coach, probably could have doubled his salary, but he stayed put year after year. Plus, as this video says, he treated his players like sons. I’m probably going to bawl like a baby when he leaves this earth someday. Go Cats and God bless!
We had Lavell, you have Snyder. Lavell Edwards was exactly the same. Offers came year after year for better jobs and more money, but he stayed put and put BYU on the map. Not many coaches left like those two. They put the important things in life above the game they coached (and taught their players to do the same). The changes being made to college sports will leave them in shambles. If all coaches were like these two, sports would be in a much better place! Congrats to K-State for having such an incredible and classy example for so many years!
I'm from Kansas and had high school football camp at K-State on that old field with the big painted on cat. Fell on that thing at high speed and will never forget my skin being sanded off!! Thanks for the respect and the chance to see old highlights again. Our purple helmets in the '87 '88 timeframe looked like we were wearing grapes on our heads, and adding Cats in white cursive was only a slight improvement!🤕
Growing up in Oklahoma in the 50s and 60s and watching Sooner football throughout the years, whenever I saw K-State on the schedule I just chalked that game up as an automatic win. Bill Snyder changed that train of thought very quickly throughout the nation.
I’m a BYU fan and this has got me in tears. What an unfathomable impact Coach Snyder had on K-State and Manhattan overall. If every community could have a Coach Snyder, I’m convinced that most of the world’s problems would go away. What an inspiration! Go Widcats!

I was holding my 6 week old baby son during that game, and I yelled when we scored on the 1st half Hail Mary and woke him up! He'll be 28 in November, and has 2 sons of his own who I've tried to make into Wildcat fans, hard to do here in Columbus, Ohio.
I was at K-State when it started to turn around. Some of those first wins were an amazing feeling. We tore down the goal posts a few times.
A fine man. A fine leader. A fine molder of people and oh yeah, a fantastic football coach!
First-class move by BYU to create this type of thing for an opponent. Thank you, Cougs!
This is like a ESPN 30-30 great work
As a BYU fan, I’m grateful that we are inspired by great leaders no matter where they are. K state fans - what an amazing man who led your team and changed so many lives! I understand why you love him so much.
Thank You Coach for choosing K-State and pouring your heart and soul into the Program/School/Community.
That's me at the 5:30 mark! Shout out to Brandon Crow for this video idea!!!
What a wonderful example of leadership! Wonderful coach, even better human being.
Class act BYU, thank you
In the early years Snyder spent most of the post game press conferences encouraging people to attend the games.
So cool! I hope we see BYU in the Big12 championship!
I am a proud recipient of one of those letters. He is truly an amazing man.
This is incredibly cool and classy as heck BYU. K-State fans salute you.
Very cool cast well-done, thank BYU Sports Nation!
Super cool video, classy BYU go Cougs besides this Saturday 😉
BYU❤
I'm a Nebraska fan but I have such respect for K-State 😢
I love that u did this for Kansas st go cats
This might be a situation where two opponents aren't really mad about loosing to the other and the fans can enjoy a game
Great stuff!
Growing up in Oklahoma in the 50s and 60s and watching Sooner football throughout the years, whenever I saw K-State on the schedule I just chalked that game up as an automatic win. Bill Snyder changed that train of thought very quickly throughout the nation.
Thanks for posting this Cougars. Good luck on Saturday (but hope you still lose).
~ signed a Wildcat fan.
No hard feelings 😉
BYU gets my respect for this. Still want to beat the pants off of your football team, but you guys are classy. Thank you!
Fantastic!
