Many thanks for the kind words. BYU Drumline director here. We try really hard to embrace the spirit of positive and constructive competition. In our marching band pregame sequence, we always play the visiting team’s fight song for any visiting fans that are at the game, of course including K State. Not sure what/if other bands do that, but I know everyone in the stadium tries to do their part to make the game a good one for everyone there. It’s really nice to see that acknowledgment here.

Also a cougar, former athlete and I agree 100%. The k-state coach was a class act at how he handled things with the qb in one of his toughest night of his career. 🙌
Something else that’s been heart warming is how BYU fans stood up and have supported the fundraiser put on by the K St. QB for his former principal with cancer.
Interesting commentary. The night of that awful loss, checking in on the youtube post-mortems, I noticed the comments in the vlogs by BYU fans were remarkably positive and generous to the losing team. BTW, I shouldn't have been so surprised, because all of the LDS folks I've ever known have been exceptionally kind people. (Wish we'd elected one president when we had a chance to.)

This was lovely to watch. I attended a wedding back in the 80's and several BYU basketball players were ushers and guests. I don't think there was a single young woman that got to sit down through the entire reception! My friend and I were guests, very average looking, and I can tell you that we were treated like princesses by those young men! We were approached for the first dance and danced all day. They were so kind and such gentlemen. We had so much fun. The couple's first initials were P and J. If you were one of those young men I danced with, thanks for the great memory!!❤❤❤
I was at the 1996 Cotton Bowl and to this day remember how great the K-State fans were. We (BYU fans) were outnumber about 30-1, but K-State was a class act. After the game, dozens of K-State fans congratulated us in a kind, sincere way. It made an impact on me and I have tried to treat visitors at our stadium the same way. When my daughter was talking about possibly doing grad school at K-State I was all for it. Now she's an alum and was cheering for her Wildcats Saturday night. Thanks for taking the high road!
I was at that game as well, and couldn't speak for three days I had screamed so much. I just remember a sea of purple flags on the cars rolling in (I had never seen that before) and you're right on the ratio, it was a K State home game. The K State fans were great despite a really tight game we were lucky to win.
As a BYU fan and one whose family helped start BYU, we deeply honor and respect our Big 12 friends. Athletic competitions are a great opportunity to compete in cheering on our teams while cherishing the fans of the other teams. We all love athletic competitions because these events allow us to take out our frustrations by yelling for our teams. But, at the end of the game, we can unite in our love of the game and of our conference.
As a BYU fan, I was impressed with every K-State fan I met at the game. They were kind and gracious. Some of the best visiting fans with whom I have engaged in conversation. Thank you for coming to BYU!
I absolutely agree with you. The ENTIRE BYU program and fans are first class. Living in Ohio, we have always enjoyed watching them play at home when they are on tv, as they set a GREAT EXAMPLE for other fans to follow. However, I still wish KSTATE would have won.. But, a sincere CONGRATS to BYU.
This is cool CleveBrowns64. Thanks man. And likewise. There was some really unlucky things that happened during that game that was incredibly frustrating for the KSTATE fans, but I haven't heard one comment or situation where the KSTATE fanbase didn't act with class.
Utah Utes fan here. My dad is a hard core BYU fan, so I have been to more BYU games than Utah games. (Although, we have been to several Utah games together also.) I have to respect this dude taking the time to post this. Utah Utes fans can be a lot more aggressive and even violent at times. BYU fans have always been great, and I love when the rivalry is respected by both fan bases. The way they are both teams are good and winning now will make the rivalry fun, win or lose.
Its a Love Hate relationship. some take it too seriously and forget to enjoy the rivalry. i hope i can make it to the holy war this year but tickets are hard to come by sometimes. ive been impressed by what utah has done the last few years, they are a well rounded team and deserve all the praise they get.
I don't like that the U is so good all the time. Whitt has built an amazing culture up there. I have a ton of respect for him and the heart that the U always plays with. PS - We have our share of obnoxious fans as well.
@nathanmaughan2974 I am glad to hear that. Sometimes the worst fans are also the loudest and can give everyone else a poor reputation. I'm glad to hear everyone was pleasant, despite the frustrating performance of the football team. Thank you, I'm glad you guys are in the conference now.
BYU grad and fan here. Just wanted to reach back with a compliment on your sportsmanship and perspective. It’s easy to be upset and disappointed if the game doesn’t turn your direction, and we’ve all been there. A truly wise person can move past that to see good at the same time. We need our emotions, yes, but we don’t need to be ruled by them. And while games can be important, human connection is more important. Thank you for the kind words and your own example of sportsmanship!
If we win the game but fail as Christians, then we haven't won anything. Sometimes we all need to be reminded of that. Next day at church fellow BYU Alum walked in, looked at me and said, "The Church is true! " We all had a good laugh. Pretty sure HE doesn't care about the football game's score. Except when Parker Kingston is returning a punt. I saw divine intervention there about 3 or 4 times at least.
This warms my heart! I'm so glad your experience here was such a positive one! Welcome to Utah and more specifically, BYU! Come visit us again! Thank you for sharing this experience! This is what sportsmanship is all about!
Got a big smile on my face listening to you. I was born and raised within 5 miles of BYU. You are very special to have made such priceless comments. Thank so much for sharing your feelings and experiences.
Totally agree Fitz! The game left a whole lot to be desired, but the overall experience and they way we were treated was absolutely first class. Thanks BYU fans! It is even easy to get in and out of the stadium. We stayed near the airport in SLC since we had an early flight and it was unbelievable how easy it was to get back on the Interstate and back to SLC. Definitely the best road game experience I have ever had. Final score excluded. 😉
this is cool Doug. I'm happy you were treated well and had a good experience with our fanbase. Thanks for sharing your experience and hope you come next time too!
As a BYU fan I was nervous the entire game. K State played 8 bad minutes. Avery is dangerous and I held my breath every time he broke out of the pocket. Glad you liked Utah.
As a BYU fan, thank you. I sat in the visitors section with my mom (kstate alum) and even though we were up big y’all were so gracious. You have a great team, and great fan base. Good core values that we can all celebrate! Go Cats! Go Cougs!
What a beautiful, beautiful video. I rarely comment on TH-cam videos but this definitely one called for an exception. Thanks for the uplifting content, and good luck to you, and to Kansas State, in the games ahead.
I was at the Cotton Bowl at the end of the '96 season. It was a bitter disappointment. More than this game because we just got trucked in this one and, in hindsight, I should have seen it coming several weeks away. In Dallas, I thought we were the better team, and were really controlling that game until Chris Canty had his cramping problems. The Cougs literally sliced us apart like a surgeon after that, and I was just shaking my head wondering how it happened. But the Cougar fans I met and talked with were just the way you describe. I didn't hear a single negative or mean comment. It might almost would have been better if I could have disliked those people, but I couldn't. Hats off to them. They seem to have our number.
I was at that game as well, playing tuba in BYU's marching band. That finish with the interception in the end zone to seal it was crazy. That was as exciting of a game as I've seen in my life. I'm sorry for your loss that year... but I was thrilled we won.
I am local to BYU, and I have to say, that all of the K State fans I have come across or had interactions with online have also been respectful. To me, this is just as big of deal. People tend to be disrespectful online. Nothing but good interactions here, so kudos to you guys as well. I am obviously a BYU fan, and even an Utah fan if they aren't playing. I however will be cheering for K State if they aren't playing local.
BYU guy here, thank you so much for your kind words. Like everyone else, we don't always get it right, but we try hard. Win or lose we want healthy fair competition and fun for everyone.
Thank you for the kind words about the BYU fans. I went to school there over a decade ago and the sportsmanship has improved greatly since then. I'm happy to hear the fans treat visiting teams and their families with respect.
TO TIM FITZGERALD: Thank you for the compliments to us. BYU was fortunate to beat a very good team in Kansas State (who had already beaten all their opponents so far this year). I feel quite certain that Kansas State is going to be very lopsided in their victory column with very few defeats if any more in 2024. I think we got lucky in this game, as all the breaks seemed to go our way otherwise the score at the end of the game would have been much closer. I must compliment the sportsmanship of the Kansas State plyers throughout the game. I must tell you hear that I have always liked the color and design of the Kansas State football team uniforms, especially the design on the helmets. I think Kansas State is going to win a lot of games this year.
Great video. The thing to understand is that BYU is just happy to be in a conference that is a good cultural fit. A place where the uniqueness of BYU is accepted rather than criticized. BYU is committed to the success of the Big 12, and I think member schools will find that visiting Provo will be a positive experience, regardless of the athletic outcomes.
I am a big BYU fan and now a big fan of your incredible honesty, kindness and open-mindedness. So impressed with your comments. Go K-State. We want to see you succeed the rest of the season.
Fitz, thank you for the kind words and for visiting us out here in the mountains. Football is great and we love cheering for BYU, but nothing is more important than how we treat our fellow brothers and sisters in this life. All the best to you, your family and KState. We’ll be cheering for you.
BYU fan here (but living in Kansas). Come back, you will NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED. This is an exceptional atmosphere like no other in the country. Thank you for the compliments. Great game, GO KANSAS STATE!!!
Thank you for your very kind words. I hope that as BYU fans we can continue to make a good impression and be kind. I worry a bit that we are hearing and seeing too many nice comments and might drink the kool aid a bit and have it go to our heads. I love that BYU is really striving to be who BYU claims to be and should be.
I'm glad you got to experience BYU game day. It's a beautiful setting, and as you wrote, the staging of the game is top notch. Nothing but respect for KState. Being in the Big12 is sweet!
I’m a BYU grad and fan and appreciate the message of this video, thank you! To carry the message forward my whole family attended all of the games hosted in Texas this year and I have the say that Baylor was also an excellent environment and experience. Great people and great place where we met many with the same value mindset. Baylor you are also a class act!
Thank you! I was born near Utah and have been around the world but that valley at the base of those beautiful mountains is a special place with special people.
I heard other people say they played the kstate fight song for the fans and gave them ice cream, it really sounds like they put a lot of effort into making the opposing teams fans feel welcome and enjoy themselves there. Just a class act.
Years ago BYU had a 25 game winning streak and UCLA came to Provo and broke the streak. As we're walking away after some guy yelled "Don't worry. It's just a dream. UCLA Coach said "We couldn't sustain a drive the whole game." Receiver finally got behind the defense for the winning TD.
I have never seen a team so dominant as K St was the 1st half. 2 drives the time of possession was almost a quarter, half of the 1st half. The BYU Color man, also a member of the 1986 team said he thought BYU's defense was so tired after that onslaught K St would overwhelm us the 2nd half. I still think they are the best team in the B12 this year. With Utah's QB injured I thought K St was the best in the B 12 before the game.
Defense wins games. K St was upset, for good reason, to have to settle for a FG at the end of those amazing time consuming drives. They should take heart. SMU kicked 5 FG in Dallas and lost to BYU 18-15 2 weeks ago. Saturday SMU beat a good TCU 66-42.
As an Arizona fan, K State fans, are the most friendly fan base I have been around in a long time. Bill Snyder Family Stadium was an awesome experience, just was hoping for a closer game.
BYU fan here. Thanks for traveling to Provo. So glad you had a good experience. Your kind words, despite the disappointment, earned my subscription. I need to get my B12 school info from someone. Might as well be you. I'll gladly follow from this point onward.
Thanks Tim! As a BYU fan who lived in Lawrence from 92-04 I had many great Wildcat and Jayhawk friends - although I did lean Jayhawks. The state of Kansas has some of the greatest and kindest people you will ever meet. Nothing but respect for K-State and especially what Bill Snyder was able to do. I'm 60 and I remember well when they were the laughingstock of college football. Remarkable story and a remarkable man. We need more coaches like him! Very much like what Lavell Edwards did here at BYU. Wish you the best the rest of the year! Great respect for your team and players. Really touched by Avery going to bat for his high school principal.
Special video! BYU and Kansas State are truly wonderful programs (they’re examples for some other programs that just don’t seem to understand what is truly important in this life). Well done 👍🏽
I was at the game and yes, it was an amazing game for us BYU fans. Yes, we were screaming, shouting and living the energy. I interacted with K State fans and it was pure pleasure, kindness and joy. We were there to be friends in a friendly competition. That is sportsmanship at its best. Thank you Kansas State for making the trip up here and for having a amazing team!
Glad you had a good experience. There is no place quite like BYU and I am so glad I was able to attend that school and be a part of the football program many years ago. Thanks for the kind words! Good luck the rest of the way.
I was on the 96 team as a defensive tackle that played in the Cotton Bowl. On BYU side. I went down for the game because I was excited to see if we had a chance. I didn't think we did because your quarterback is so awesome. He's going to be a real stud in the future. Can't wait to see him continue to grow. That fourth quarter show is absolutely amazing I have some of it on my phone it probably should put it up on TH-cam. It was top-notch.
Amen brother, it is all about love, understanding and compassion. Grateful for good folks, who stand up for what is right in this world and aren't afraid to encourage others to do the same. I'm a life-long BYU fan, but I must say that I'm very impressed with the culture presented by K State. I really enjoyed watching the segment about your coach Bill Snyder on the BYUTV pre-game show. So impressed with him and what he built at Kansas State. I will be rooting for you guys to do well in the future. God bless you in your fight against Cancer.
Great video - thank you for sharing your experience. Loved that last part. There is so much more that unites us than divides us. Go Cougs! Go K-State, rooting for you guys the rest of the year!
Thank you for your kind words. My heart aches when I hear of my fellow fans not living up to those standards. Let’s make the world a better place, let’s have fun, and let’s be friends.
This is such a nice video. I’m a BYU alum and danced on that field as a Cougarette. The fans are special and it does come from our love of our brothers and sisters of the human race. Coming together to have a fun experience like a football game should be full of sportsmanship, vigorous competition, and gratitude for all sides for their talent and passion. Glad you had a wonderful experience, it’s what we as Cougars hope for and expect❤
What a fantastic gentleman. Watching this made me cry I’m from Utah and I couldn’t be prouder of our state and to hear all these nice things said this man about it and us as a whole . K-state should be honored to have this man representing them. I would love to go to Manhattan someday. Cosmo is amazing. I’ve seen him do some incredible things over the years. God bless you, sir.
What a beautiful presentation and so many positive remarks! I've never watched you before but I like your approach and openness with how you are covering K-State football. I am a BYU alumnus who lives in Kansas and when someone asks me which I choose to root for, KState or KU, they are surprised when I say BYU because I grew up in Kansas but went to BYU. You always feel bad when things aren't going your way but it's nice to see someone like you to turn things around and look at the positive. And yes, I still like K-State and KU and sometimes go to their games, but when BYU plays, I'm a 100% cougar fan. Thanks for what you do - you have a good program!
My family and I went to the basketball game at K-State last year in BYU garb and we were treated beyond nicely. Thanks. You have a great school in the Little Apple and we look forward to playing against you for many years to come!
Thank you for your kind comments. My sister met 3 Kansas State Cheerleaders as they were admiring our mountains. She said they were so much fun to talk with.
I also liked how the BYU band faced the K-State fan section before the game and played the K-State fight song for them. They seemed to really appreciate the gesture of sportsmanship.
Lifelong BYU Fan and grad here. I did my church missionary service in Kansas some time ago -- spent the bulk of it in Manhattan, in the shadow of K-State. I got to know many of the football players there at the time. When I returned to BYU after my mission, the next season was the Cotton Bowl between the two sides (some time ago). While I was happy about that win, I felt mildly conflicted as I knew it was tough for some of those guys I'd met in Manhattan. Anyway, I really love the culture of both schools -- great traditions & nice cultures in their own ways. Other than when they're playing BYU, I'll always pull for the Wildcats. I'm sure K-State will bounce back and have a great season.
Thanks Tim, for your kind comments. As a "true blue" BYU fan and alumnus, I'm very happy that you were able to partake of the "spirit of the Y". It was a GREAT game, with good plays on both sides. I grew up in the SE conference and I attended Georgia Tech for two years before my LDS mission and coming to BYU. What a contrast! I love BYU, and for the rest of this season I'll be rooting for KS as well. As my mama used to say, "Ya'll come back now, y'hear!"
Loved your post Tim. Great thoughts on how we should treat each other. Thanks for your kindness we look forward to having Kansas State here again in the future.
Tim, thank you for the props, brother. You know what's up about life. Being kind is better than winning a game. Salute to you and Kstate. Hope ya'll crush the rest of the season.
I really love how many Big 12 sports people have been talking positively about BYU. Our religion is different and that makes it controversial, and a lot of people just take every opportunity they can to put us down or make fun of us. I really don't mind jokes that are expense, if I feel that they are coming from a place of affection--in fact, That's one of my favorite things, but it's different if you feel like it's coming from a place of disrespect, and sadly, that's what most of us are used to, especially for the half of us that don't come from Utah. There's a ton of misinformation about what we believe and what we do, and we honestly get a lot of hate. It's really easy to win me over--You don't need to say too many kind things for me to feel overwhelmed and grateful. Honestly, it means a lot. More than you know. Thank you for posting this.
As a BYU alumni, I love hearing this. We love our teams, and cheer our heads off (can't count the number of sunday mornings where my friends and i all sounded like we were sick), but I've never seen an aposing fan or player mistreated before, during or after a game. From what i saw, the Kansas State football program has a lot to be proud of. I'm excited to see what your QB become as he develops. He's a baller and a great competitor. He reminds me a little of Taysome Hill (I watched most of his career from the south end of the stadium). Good luck with the rest of your season.
Thanks sir for your review. I'm glad you had a good experience. You're fans were awesome too at the stadium that night. Wish you guys the best the remainder of the season.
Not sure how this wound up in my feed, where I am not a football fan, but your words, and the comments I have read have moved me to tears. The kind and complimentary words shared by both sides... so beautiful! I imagine that is what it would be like -every day- to live in the city of Enoch. I crave that. With so much anger, bitterness and contention so often on display, especially in social media, this post felt like a safe-harbor in the storm. Thanks to all of you!
Thank you for your comments. BYU Alum and Fan here. Tough loss for the Wildcats. I am proud of my Cougs!. What I hope is that this rivalry be one that is wrapped with love and respect for each other as we duke it out in the Big 12. Avery Johnson and the Wildcats I am sure will bounce back. I hope to make it out Manhattan and a game there one day. Best to you all. OH, and best to Dr. Chris Botts and his battle with Cancer.

BYU Alum with kids now attending. Thank you for the kind words and encouraging others to follow suit. Kindness is needed now more than ever.
Thanks. That is very nice of you. I am a Cougar Fan. K-State is a class act. Good luck for the rest of the season
Thank you from a BYU fan. I am sure the KSTATE atmosphere is incredible as well. Love it when sports is fun and not demeaning.
💙💜💙 from a Cougar fan!
Let's not forget in 07 when a BYU fan assaulted a Utah fan.
@@MrGorillaman22 Well, I'm heartened to see that you had to go back to '07 to come up with a Y fan misbehaving.
Its a Love Hate relationship. some take it too seriously and forget to enjoy the rivalry. i hope i can make it to the holy war this year but tickets are hard to come by sometimes. ive been impressed by what utah has done the last few years, they are a well rounded team and deserve all the praise they get.
@@ronr6450🤣 ✔️ 2,019 days since yewts beat BYU in football! 😀
I don't like that the U is so good all the time. Whitt has built an amazing culture up there. I have a ton of respect for him and the heart that the U always plays with.
PS - We have our share of obnoxious fans as well.
The KSU fans at the game were first class, I really love the people in this conf.
God bless friends. We appreciate you Kansas.
Thanks Fitz. You are a class act…have enjoyed listening to you since BYU joined the Big XII. Honored to be in such a great conference.
You kicked K States ass with class!
this is cool Doug.
Love this DD. There needs to be more love and compassion in the world. BYU sounds like a wonderful fan base.
As a BYU fan, thank you. I sat in the visitors section with my mom (kstate alum) and even though we were up big y’all were so gracious. You have a great team, and great fan base. Good core values that we can all celebrate! Go Cats! Go Cougs!
Lifelong Ute fan here . . . congrats to the Cougars for earning such kudos!
Thanks for the video. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful state. Go Big 12!
What a beautiful, beautiful video. I rarely comment on TH-cam videos but this definitely one called for an exception. Thanks for the uplifting content, and good luck to you, and to Kansas State, in the games ahead.
Amen
Well I became a loyal for life BYU fan after that game, so thank you k-state for that ;)
Fitz, Thank you for representing the Wildcats so well. You speak for all of us. Grateful for you!!
Thanks for the kind words. Hope KSU has a great rest of the year! That running attack is impressive.
As a BYU grad-we are all humans. We should treat each other with respect and kindness. That is the REAL game and what is taught at the Y every day.
@@kevinmatthews7180 this is absolutely true.
@@theflyestkidalive you can have faith and still have genuine kindness.
@@theflyestkidalive That is a ridiculous thing to say or think.
I'm a former Mormon; decided their worldview isn't mine. But their kindness and goodwill is beyond missionary work and beyond question.
BTW--I'm a die-hard, lifelong Ute fan.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, no matter where you’re from, when you’re in Provo, you’re home. K-State fans are first class with me.
Thank you for the kind words about the BYU fans. I went to school there over a decade ago and the sportsmanship has improved greatly since then. I'm happy to hear the fans treat visiting teams and their families with respect.
Love it. Great lesson. Being a good person is much more important than football
Wow, Sir! You have grace about you!! I love your positive demeanor. It is sooooo refreshing.
Brother to Brother, Huge Props and Respect. Age 73. Lifetime BYU , LDS,
USAF vet. 💚💙💚💙🇺🇸🇺🇸🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Thanks for the kind words. You are a class act as are so many K State fans!
Thank you. Hopefully, we can remember and reproduce this kindness when we play Utah. BYU '74
I heard other people say they played the kstate fight song for the fans and gave them ice cream, it really sounds like they put a lot of effort into making the opposing teams fans feel welcome and enjoy themselves there. Just a class act.
They did. I didn't know this until late last night.
People could say "Of course they were nice they won. Many times they lost and were still kind."
Thank you for your kind words. Go Cougars! 🤘🏻
Welcome to the Big 12!!
Do they come to Manhattan soon?
@@ryankrause4880 don't think so.
@@ryankrause4880maybe next year. Byu was in Manhattan last season.
As an Arizona fan, K State fans, are the most friendly fan base I have been around in a long time. Bill Snyder Family Stadium was an awesome experience, just was hoping for a closer game.
Thank you for being so gracious.
That was a fantastic review of BYU and Provo. We love it too!
If it's not BYU, we cheer for Kansas. Great school and fan's.
John 13: 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
People like this are amazing, thanks for the video
Love the positivity towards another fanbase. . .its refreshing! Glad you had a great experience in Provo :)
I am a Cougs fan but K-State is a class act. Good luck for the rest of the year!!
Thanks for the compliments! We try to be good sports at byu! Not all fans are but every fan base has those “special” people 😂 .
Oh wow, thanks for the pin ☺️
I also liked how the BYU band faced the K-State fan section before the game and played the K-State fight song for them. They seemed to really appreciate the gesture of sportsmanship.
Life long BYU fan here. So glad it was a good experience! Football is fun but brotherhood and friendship runs much deeper. God bless you and yours.
I loved this. We just moved to KS and have decided K-State is classy and you represent them well.
My favorite thing about K-State, and there are many, is the people. This heartland Ag spirit is in this school's DNA.
Thx Fitz! Glad you had an great experience in Provo. Today is the first full day of Fall 2024. Enjoy! 🍁🏈🎃🦃
Thank you for your kind words! You guys are truly amazing fans and we loved having you in Provo! Come back soon! You have a home in Utah!
You are so very gracious and kind. Thank you. ❤
You’re welcome back anytime! I loved the great K State fans I interacted with at the game and look forward to interacting with them again soon!
Well said Fitz. Good luck to K state going forward.
BYU fan here, and a newly made K-State fan by you! Love the message
So wholesome!! I love that you can say all those positive things and focus on the good even though it’s not your team.
I didn’t go to BYU but they are a class program. Always have been.
Thank you for this very kind and gracious review. Fantastic sportsmanship. Thank you!
Thank you so very much.
Thank you for the compliments. Greatness recognizes greatness. K St fans are great people. I hope you guys win out the rest of the way.
How kind of you to make this video, BYU fans love our visiting teams. ❤
