So, I guess this video is gonna keep gaining more views. This summer I was planning on making more stuff about abandoned dragstrips, so this is great motivation! In the mean time, theres gonna be more 2 engine go kart and 3 wheeler content.
I raced there in the trophy class at a IVWA "Bug Bash" in either 1989 or 1990 and won a trophy . I can't remember the exact year because my trophies are packed up and still at my ex wife's house but it sure is a shame Shuffletown got closed down .
Went there from 1959 until the late 70s, I heard the noise complaints started with Speedy Thompson a NASCAR driver who won the 1960 National 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He lived just up the road from Shuffletown.

Remember when they were started by a flagman and 2 people were at the finish line and the person on the winners side would hold there hand up, no electronics in the early days. This track was dirt for a long time. Does anyone remember Pumpkin Center dragstrip?
This is BS...I'm old enough to remember this place and the deal was they sold it to use the land to build condos and yet here it sits! The end of the track was under the four lane,the starting line was by the two lane. The return road was between the woods and strip. The open field to the left of the strip was fan parking
Yeah. Crazy how these tracks get shut down. One of the reasons it closed in the first place was because of noise complaints l, yet now there's a small airport near by and planes fly over all the time!
They shut it down for noise not condos. Its ironic when that track opened, there wasn't a house for miles. Then people built their houses close by and complained about the noise. They actually reopened for a short time and required mufflers, but the kept complaining about the noise and had to close again
@@bad84blazer44 sorry but the county used the noise complaint as a means to shut the track. The track fought it in court which is why they opened back up for a very short time then closed for good when the county kept pushing. I know, I spent weekends there and then yrs later I got the full story because I job I had at the time
Damn what a waste it still can be saved clearing out and build a new tower and all someone who has money can save it still. Bring it back I would like to see the new track when done.
@@bad84blazer44noise really ass holes its not disturbing the peace with day racing mabe late night but most people race on weekends they take away I hope people are street racing in the area I know I would be but here it sits I say someone take over and rebuild it I know regular people will get tired of the street racing and they will mabe pitch and get the track back I hope it comes back I pray im glad we still got all our tracks here in louisiana
