UCF ranked 70th in the nation on ESPN and winning only 7 of 20 conference games. But all these may be way under-ranking this best Dawkins team ever, especially with injured players back and Thiam dramatically developing each game. What's held the Knights back so far is an inability to put opponents away, consistent slow starts, and an inferior defense to recent seasons. Strength are free-throw shooting, steals, assists, the deepest bench in the Big 12 (essential to wearing down opponents, surviving the physical conference and inevitable injuries and the back-to-back conference tourney), experience, and that undefinable ability to eek out close games. 11-9 should get UCF to the Big Dance if they can finish strong in the Conference Tournament! I watched some of last week's Tech game, and UCF matches up well against them in size, has superior depth, but not as quick, especially in the backcourt.
