  • ‪@soyuzmics‬ 017 FET is one of the best mics I've ever used, hands down. It's warm, detailed and looks as amazing as it sounds. You're hearing it here with no EQ.
So, let's hang with the Soyuz as it revisits the booth, thanks to a different shockmount. I just don't like the Soyuz shockmount because it's too heavy. It's a great shockmount and very robust, but for my use, it's a bit too much. But the pretty decent one that came with the Mavis Prima MPA-81s is perfect for my use. It's lightweight, well made and stays out of the way.
The shockmount I'm using can also be found here:

I love love LOVE this mic. I know I have to have a Nuemann U87ai at some point but I really LOVE the Soyuz 017 FET. I do have a TLM - 103 in the meantime until I get the U87ai. Thank you for this video Mark and reassuring just how much I love the Soyuz 017 FET.

I agree you should get an 87 at some point, but the 017 FET really is one of the absolute best mics for voice.

it does look like a wind instrument funny you mentioned. i have 017 and u87 in my possesion. the 017 sounds finished and the 87 sounds natural. both gets used equally. Voxbox is a cool preamp for the soyuz 017

I think that’s a great way to describe the 017 vs the 87.

    Awesome mic !!
It sounds very clear and have a lot of clean bass too.
    I didn't notice a slight sibilance issue.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I really like the clarity.
All of the mics you feature sound good, what mic preamp are you using?

Thanks Jar! Yeah the BFL shockmount is the same one from the v47.

Thank you. I remain smitten with this thing. Why I ever needed any other mic beyond this is a mystery wrapped in a conundrum.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I can understand why it wouldn't be first call for every gig... but I doubt it would ever be the wrong choice for any gig.

1:34 I mean... if it's not touching anything, there can be no vibrations. Minimalist acoustic isolation. 😜

Hey! great video, just got myself the 017 FET and i wonder what kind of boomarm you are using =) thx again for a great video!

Congrats on your 017! I'm using a Blue Compass, which barely holds the weight of the 017 FET and the Soyuz shockmount. Not ideal for it.

Sounding great. I remember you did a very detailed response graph comparison with the U87... wondering how it compares with the U89...? Also, how are the booth reflections with the 017F?
    Cheers

Booth reflections don’t seem to be an issue, and u89 comparison is a great idea.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Oh I remember it was with the TLM 67... like sister mics... but yeah, a U89 comparison would be great to hear... or maybe a three way with a U87 too...?!

Does it come with a firm mount? I’m starting to question the real value of a shock mount for VO. In such a controlled space as a voice booth I’m not sure it ads much real value.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It does. I prefer a shock mount in the booth to help tame any low end rumble I may get from a truck going by, or other kinds of rumble. I’d rather save a take with one than cheap out and try to go without a safety net.
