Third Movement (Allegro) of Bach Harpsichord Concerto 1 (BWV 1052) Movement I & II with video: • Helene Grimaud - Bach ... Unfortunatly I don't have the video. Nevertheless: enjoy
I believe the speed is correct. This is a Zimmerman's Coffee House piece, and Bach was almost surely playing both for his own fun and to show off a bit. I think the piece commands it. It's a crowd pleaser.
i have never heard before this bach's concerto to be played so fast but it is very beautiful and the complexity together with bach's great harmony in the midst of the complexity is there. thank you bach and helene.
Helen Grimaud is a wonderful, wonderful musician and pianist; amazing tempo and bringing out all the voices a bit like Glenn Gould..... I wonder how they would get on talking about Bach together ? Fabulous mutual respect I imagine, and a huge love of Bach !
Remarquable version.
J.A.Vives.24-6-2019.
Lovely playing. But I’m torn between piano and harpsichord. I’ve just bought Trevor Pinnock’s version and it really is breathtaking. I think the harpsichord, if recorded well, is perfectly suited to the music. It’s how Bach would’ve heard it after all.
It's a little weird, yes, having pianists use the pedals and changing the dynamics. But Bach's music is magical--it always works--so we should allow it.
While a harpsichord would be the most authentic instrument here, Bach was open to the piano(forte). In 1747 he found a piano that was acceptable to him (built by Silbermann). Second, as for tempo, there are lots of options. Those who use Gould as the standard should realize that his performance was relatively slow. Finally, Grimaud does a nice job but has a little trouble at the end of this movement. Still top notch playing & TH-cam has her studio recording without the mistakes.
I cannot agree that JS would have been happy with this, not at that speed. Fast yes ok, but not over the speed limit. Did Helene have a supper engagement to get to? The orchestra I think was having trouble keeping up.
I think the speed is acceptable. My problem is that she doesn’t always play entirely clearly and sometimes is rather emotionally and dynamically flat. Polina Osetinskaya has a performance on TH-cam at more or less the same tempo, but it’s overall much better. It’s a fast tempo done right.
It’s weird, I heard a recording by her that was played much better than this. Guess that’s what happens sometimes in live performances. Bad days and all that
Überzeugende Version auf dem modernen Flügel. Wenn ich ehrlich sein darf: die Aufnahme mit Jean Reno (Cembalo) ist mir lieber... Excuséz, Madame Grimaud!
Helene Grimaud: I can see you also play Bach as many others. No doubth a versatile pianist.Congratulations.Regards of one of your fans from Argentina.

Ma version préférée de ce concerto, Bravo Helene Grimaud ; à quand les concerti de Bach au philharmonie de Paris ?
beautyful!!!
La interpretación está a la altura de la obra.
Bach liked it fast (we know this from various sources).

The best recording is from MURRAY PERAHIA. Dont die without listening perahia recording
Compared with Gould, it is very similar, and that is a compliment. Some fine tuning required on some passages, but then this is a live performance.
It’s much faster than Gould, and lacks that clarity the defined his playing. In short, it’s nothing like it.
I understand, but her tempo seems right!
Spellbinding!
Ein bisschen schnell aber sehr gemütlich klangen. Eins von Master Werk von Helene Grimaud
Wow...thats fast...

You definitely can't compare a 1747 fortepiano and a modern concert grand.
PIEKNE !
هسة ليش وكفتو الفديو ؟ يعني ماكو شي يبقة على حاله ؟
6:24
ahahahaha, she totally butchered that!
how does she play it like that?
INEGALABLE !!!
what wonderful playing
Bien tocada. Bien interpretada? No se. Me parece que fue ejecutada demasiado rápido

Around 6:22 things do become a bit muddled though...

True enough. Altogether, however, an exhilarating performance.

Jean Reno is a French actor…. You’re probably thinking Jean Rondeau !
Sorry! My Fault!
just horrible bashing
Are you insane ?
Maxence Dozin He's actually right at times. Gets really messy. Takes a good pair of ears to notice
Astonishing but informative dynamics
