“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) th-cam.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/w-d-xo.html is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella. Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic th-cam.com/video/SyILdRAOS88/w-d-xo.html
Oh my God! Thank you so much for the other Version of this Song! I have known the from Lara with love Version for 20+ years and it accompanies me ever since. I also saw a much more recent performance 2 years ago. But I thought that was it and that she would not perform this song very often. I just watched the 03 Version and immediately I started crying. The end especially just killed me... in a good way of course. Genuinely thank you, you just added something new to the soundtrack of my life. That means a lot to me.
@@marcelredplanet3765 my pleasure. Lara performed Je suis malade last week in the concerts she had in Prague, Chisinau and Bucharest and will continue to do so in the upcoming concerts 😀
@@marcelredplanet3765 also here is something in addition: this was a Quebec tv show in 1996, just at the moment she started to be known in France, where the guests were singing snippets of their songs on demand, people were calling and requesting a specific song and the artist was singing a few lines of it. The video quality is not good initially but improves after a few seconds. Lara is stellar, she sings a few songs and the last request is Je suis malade and she is astounding. th-cam.com/video/LhWPbpXiGkY/w-d-xo.html
Hermosa e increíble obra maestra impresionante de Lara Fabián, la mejor cantante e intérprete del mundo entero, la voz de cristal más bella y perfecta que existe! Gracias!
This is actually a cover from French male singer Serge Lama (who wrote the lyrics - Music was composed by Alice Dona) from 1973 that is autobiographical. "Je suis malade" means "I'm sick / ill". Before Lara, another singer made this song her own. It's Dalida who sings it in an even more desperate way. You can see her sing it here : th-cam.com/video/uIBnXRtyh24/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xvQJoyyn_z02HgTb

New old subscriber here lol ! Would you react to this young guy who goes by the name TALK, two of his songs Run away to Mars and A little bit happy (live) are very deep for a guy his age. You won't regret it. Also, KISS, I still love you MTV unplugged 1995, a wonderful performance by Paul Stanley and the band. Not many reactors have done them. Thank you!
Thanks for having left her the wider part of the image, while singing; it's very important, as she not only uses the voice but her eyes, mouth, face, hands, the whole body; but you should not have cut the video off short like that. Her trying to recover from the emotional investment in that song was something to be hold.
I love Lara. Your face is very familiar to me. A long long time ago did you react to Dimash. She reminds me of him a lot, as she is a big influence on him. I wasn't subscribed, I should have left, I do it when a lot of time passes and there is nothing from Dimash, but I value this artist a lot, it's good that you found her, and it's bad that you don't like Dimash anymore. (My apologies for my English) Kisses from Chile.

Hi ! You stopped the video too fast mate… The subtitles are ok , at least you get the gist of the story , but they a bit too lame/ shy from time to time . « Je suis malade » ( listen how She pronounces it 👍) = « I am sick » but, in the context of the song , it’s closer too « I am heart broken ». TCB. Now that you « understand » what the song is all about , I suggest you check her rendition from her « En toute intimité tour » 👌. TCB.
Master class and beyond. Lara Fabian my favourite female singer of her generation. Thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍

Je suis malade means I'm sick.
And you missed the ending! If you felt it, SHE needed time after to compose herself! Find the longer versiin of it
French songs are poetry compared to most english
Indeed
L'histoire de Dalida...
She literally says it...Je Suis Malade ...in the subtitles it says it means...I am sick
It means I’m sick
Je crois qu'il sait lire !
She repeats it several times and the translation is there in english, Je suis malade - I am sick.
You Americans have missed out on the best singer-songwriter of the early 21th century.
I'm sorry for you
Lee is not American 😂
If you enjoyed Lara, check out Dimash - SOS is a good introduction to Dimash. Enjoy 😎
