The door to the basement opens towards the stairs of the basement, thats the only reason Ned was able to break it down- because it already opened that way, what he broke was the doorknob's lock. When Ned shut the door he locked it in place himself with his own body, thats how i pictured it in my head. but I definitely should'vee worded it clearly. As for the part where Ned calls 911 in australia that was an oversight on my part 😅🤣
