    Thanks for the tip, " dont anticipate the shot, anticipate the recoil." Before last week I had never shot a pistol before and after my first 300ish rounds this is one of my main issues thus far.

    pre-ignition or post-ignition; one's bad because it affects the strike of the round.. and one's good because it drives your sights back on target after breaking the shot

    That is the problem I have. Early anticipation of recoil before the gun fired. Not sure how to fight it. Maybe it will correct over time with more training. For now, I just started slowly pushing a trigger instead of a quick squeeze with a finger. And then I will start increasing trigger pull speed with more training.

    Thanks for this education. I'm a new (right handed) shooter and consistently, sometimes badly shooting low. Not so much left but a little some times. The local gun shop owner has watched me and says that is a "flinch". I'm thinking "flinch" could be a generic term but it wasn't as helpful as I hoped. I'm a mechanics kind of guy. It is how I ride my bicycle, how I worked as an air traffic controller, and such. Build the proper mechanics and the rest will fall into place. Obviously my mechanics of firing the gun need improvement. This concise explanation of these anticipation (flinch?) factors helps me a lot. I think I need to set up my iPhone to record my shooting both dry and live. Any other suggestions are welcome.

      There are some really great drills to help you practice holding the gun steady while you pull the trigger. I like Ben Stoeger’s commentary on “trigger control at speed”, but there are others too. Fortunately you can essentially completely eliminate the flinch while you pull the trigger, free of expense, in dry fire training. It can even be said, to take it to an extreme, that there’s no use in bothering to aim if your trigger press isn’t sorted out. Look for drills what help you focus on not messing up your sight picture with your trigger press.

    I remember a study, a long long time ago, where researchers placed a large sheet of clear glass on a table with a 3 or 4 foot over-hand. They placed a baby, able to craw, on the glass, and the baby managed to get on the over-hang. Looking down several feet to the floor had no effect. They showed no fear.

    Training rounds work when you load live dummies in your mag and aim at small targets

    I don’t think your gun should ever break below level - your shoulders should never move forward - before or after a shot - if anything moves besides your trigger finger during a string of fire - you have a flinch and it needs to be corrected

    • @Joe_Farewell
      @Joe_Farewell 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stovepipe that works fine if you’re shooting slow. If you want to shoot as quickly as possible you need to get the gun back on target as quickly as possible.

    You've got it wrong in yer title, dude. It's gotta be *"Two Types of Anticipation"* (loud noise or recoil)! Not _"2 Types of Recoil Anticipation"_ . 👎
    You haven't understood the issue, hence the wrong title: One anticipation occurs before the shot (loud noise!) and leads to a miss, the other after the shot (the recoil!) and is even encouraged. Now?
