    New mechanics:
    For a Common Foul: Extend a clenched fist at 45-90 degree angle.
    For a Technical Foul: Hold basketball between either elbow and your body, so as to partially obscure the technical foul sign. Also be sure NOT to walk over to the scorer’s table. It is always good to leave them guessing. This typically results in both teams becoming even more disgruntled, thereby presenting more opportunities to blow your whistle. This ensures the official to always have a full middle school schedule.
    I also like the alternate free throw mechanics. When WHITE is shooting, the Trail is opposite the table and the Lead is table side.
    When BLACK is shooting, the Lead is opposite the table and the Trail is table side.
    It’s very confusing to everyone. Again, always keep them guessing.
    Lastly, the hands on the hip and then standing in bounds on the court, thereby making the player run around you during a live ball. This helps preserve your energy in case the zombie apocalypse occurs anytime during or after the game.
    Always be prepared.

      I mean these guys probably aren't trying to be good officials.. 🤷
      I also don't think you mentioned that the trail should always stand at the division line. If you get too close to the players calling violations and fouls will just get too easy

    I have officiated basketball up until two years ago. So tell me if something changed in the last two years. Isn't the original fouled player supposed to shoot two for the shooting foul, prior to any player on the court (#11 in this case) shooting the two technical free throws?

    • @jasonharvath720
      @jasonharvath720 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Zachary Ellwood you are correct... they let #11 shoot all 4 free throws and #30 should have shot the first two... bad officiating in that regard not getting the right shooter to the line.

    • @leonardwright1480
      @leonardwright1480 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you are correct. Fouls are adminstered in the order that they happen. 30# should shoot 2 shots then number 11#

      Correctable Error

    • @detroitrockcity8
      @detroitrockcity8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      leonard wright incorrect. College is the order in which it happened. NFHS goes in reverse order. Common foul FTs will proceed any dead ball technical foul issued. Order: Technical FTs first (anyone on the floor and can even split) then the shooting foul which should have been #30 for 2 with the lane cleared. Ball to white at the Division Line per the Technical Foul penalty on black. The officials just rushed it and didn’t come together to communicate what they had, order of sequence and who the proper shooter should have been with an understanding of resumption point of inbound.
      Point of emphasis for us is to slow down and communicate with our partners. Rushing leads to errors such as this. Not horribly bad here and by far not some of the most egregious stuff I’ve seen on TH-cam.

    • @tonyc7301
      @tonyc7301 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, two shots for #30 for the common foul and then two for #11 shooting the technical foul. Correctable error (permitting the wrong player to attempt the free throws). The error must be corrected by the next dead ball after the clock has properly started.

    I know it's a bit odd, but one thing I was VERY surprised at is the cheerleaders allowed to be on the baseline during game play. As a former referee I would simply not have allowed that.

      @@michaelfalkner1186 Then the referee should have received better training. This is a safety issue. Look at the size difference between number 00 and those cheerleader athletes. If he is running full speed looking back for the ball and misjudges his place on the court and runs full speed into one of those girls they WILL be injured the only question is how severely. No one is allowed to 'set up camp' on the baseline with a live ball. That is the equivalent of letting them line-up along the outside of the dug-out with a live batter. Not a matter of IF one of them gets badly injured... just when.

      @@danielstith5227 I don't think that's an individual referee situation -- that's more a conference or state issue. I get what you are saying, I really do. I just recall that, when I was in school, that's where they were -- and with as much room (if not less) than here.

    • @alexh8613
      @alexh8613 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Richard Andis He took of 2 seconds, when he should have taken off 4 or 5. But he did do something. Anyways, in middle school games like this, it's usually not a ref doing the scoreboard. It's usually one of the home teams parents, or a friend of the home team's association. And those type of people are much more likely to cheat in a situation like this

    • @Stryyder1
      @Stryyder1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Homer was running the scoreboard it seems . That clock start was blatant should have been on first touch. There is an exception after scored baskets the clock shouldn't start until the ball reaches the midline in the last 59 seconds of the game. But when inbounding the official signaled for the shortly after first touch (late in my opinion) for the clock to start (the far official did) the near official may have been screening the time keeper or he got confused when they immediately both put there hands up to signal the three point attempt.

      2 Man is always tuff spot to be in. This is why as Officials should get together especially on dead on
      ball technicals. Send the teams to the benches and work through the plays. Rather than cherry picking go get Certified by your state and be a part of action.

    • @russs7574
      @russs7574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That clock should have started as soon as the ball was touched in the field of play, and there was no way #11 should have shot all the free throws.....#30 should have shot his 2 for the foul, then anybody on the white team for the tech. But then at 2:48, where's the T for the coach coming out on the floor after the foul call? And at the very end, why wasn't the last foul 2 shots? Giving the guy dribbling a two-handed shove to the back is as blatant a deliberate foul as there is.
      This was either some horrible incompetence by these refs, or some very blatant home cooking.

    • @michaelfalkner1186

If you're going to officiate you should do your best regardless of the level. I didn't like the officials who worked higher levels of ball, come into a place and act like their better than everyone else. It makes the rest of us look bad.
