Some people have a god given talent and Steve is one of them. He opens his mouth and this beautiful angelic voice just pours out effortlessly. Wow this man is amazing. He is the only singer that can sound better live than on the album and he never misses any notes. He took us on a journey over the years.
O tempo não repete as coisas, Steve não volta. Aquele rapaz lutador, cantando com tudo, dentes posteriores restaurados com amálgama ainda, não tem volta. 🌹
This looks like 1978 which is when I first fell in love with Steve Perry and Journey wow, wow that voice!!!! I was 15yrs old staying up to watch the midnight special show hoping to not be caught... hehehe! XOXOX to the guys!!
Arguably the best voice in Rock 'n' Roll. Had the opportunity to see Journey (with Steve) multiple times. His ability to connect with the audience was only surpassed by his astounding vocals.
All the auto-tuner dependant singers of today's bands should watch this and see how the truly talented bands did it. Thanks for putting this out there for us all to enjoy...again.
Obviously I love and may of us love Perry's beautiful dynamic voice on this one, but you also got to love Rolie's supportive backing vocals. Those guys were the true vocal duo back then!
2021 and Steve Perry is still my crush. No one has ever said come close. The hair, the voice the jeans! He is the complete package. Feelin that way too! Greg Rolie and Steve Perry are incredible!
Yes I was a teen 15years old in1978, sneaking up to watch the midnight special after mom and dad went to bed. I did see this episode and I also saw journey on this show in 1979 as well. I still have a crush on Steve Perry and a fan of Journey forever!!!
The transition from Feelin' That Way/Anytime isn't easy to do live, and back in 1978 they showed how great they were going to be, by doing it perfectly. So clean for a band that had only been together with this line up for about 6 months. This ladies and gentlemen, is what talent really looks like top to bottom. Bottled lighting for sure
While I was around, I was a bit young, and had not yet discovered this amazing, amazing voice and talent! I am so enjoying it now! Many thanks to all who diligently post these wonderful videos of the legendary Steve 'The Voice' Perry!
OOOH, THE CLASSICS, almost makes me wish i could go back to the late 70's and 80's, i so miss those days. Bell bottom pants were the 'in thing'. If only.................. He's on my bucket list
"Wheel In The Sky" , "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime" ... The guys are killing it here! I think people underestimate Gregg Rolie. He was a great singer and keyboardist. It's nice to see him share the vocals with Perry on a couple of the tracks. These are some of my favorite tracks to listen to on Journey albums. Roy Thomas Baker (engineer on the Infinity album) produced a layered sound approach and Neal Schon taps into some of his best playing. The tone is stacked and biting. Every once in a while you catch lightning in a bottle. To hear that tone on the record produced live is, as you say Lisa...AMAZING!!!
Gregg Rolie, was a crap singer and suited best for backing vocal coupled best with heavy reverb of the day, period. They were all crap singers who you kidding? Are you a cheerleading relative going around leaving comments? Regardless. Ive heard their stuff Pre-Perry and it was great players with crap vocals, who couldn't make the radio friendly market, while lacking substance to take them to the next level, period. Most guitar players etc who are good are not great vocalists, and they usually have envy problems aimed at the singers. Journey ONLY became "journey" when Steve Perry was added to the talent. Thats just reality plain and simple. And, it made them rich. IF he hadn't ? They would of disbanded and been buried along with the rest of the label write offs & tax deductions.. Their arrogance and malcontent demeanors shows, they lack appreciation for anything but themselves. And as OLD men, and has-been's they keep touring a circuit that most people dont care about anymore, and trying to replace a "that ingrediant' with a duplicate instead of finding a different "vocalist" they keep trying to find another steve. Imitation is the best form of compliment? Nah, its the one finger salute from a bunch of ego maniacs trying to pull off a van halen. like it or not - The voice, Steve Perry was RARE and class act singer, a singer that comes along once in a life time with stellar capabilities. MOST FEMALE singers dont have those chops let alone the stamina. And live all those years touring, steve was covering the lead vocals and back up instead of finding back up to relieve some of the stress., No wonder he was bunt out. There hasn't been one of those "types" really in males vocals in 40 years..... Bands as a whole never last forever usually for reasons like this and egos, then comes the drugs, booze, groupies and yoko uno's......The old joke "what do you call a guitar player holding a light bulb? The world revolves around him.
Wow, what memories!! I graduated in 78 and this was one of my favorite shows and I watched this!! I fell in love that night, with Journey!! Thanks for the post and memories!! I will be forever yours, Steve Perry!
Yes I was around. We were 28! His Voice, performance & being such a 🔥 drew my attention to JOURNEY. They all were so talented & 🔥 as well! The Music was addictive. I stared into the TV... I was hooked, line & sinker! FOREVER🎶💕
I just recently bought Journey infinity, Frontiers, Evolution, Trial by fire, Departure, Escape, Raised on Radio, Street talk, Strange Medicine Thanks To Amazon!!! I AM A JOURNEY FAN WITH STEVE PERRY (NO OTHER LEAD SINGER)!!!
When he introduces Eddie Money with rock in roll in his soul, always gives me goose bumps. His voice is the pinnacle of perfection. What most people dont know is this little fact about Journey. When Journey first started out they were just an instrumental band. Back in the day when a record label signed you, you were usually signed to a multi record contract. Journey's records were good but not great. They were told to produce something better or they were finished. They brought in a singer named Robert Fleishman. He was good but when the manager, Herbie Hebert, heard a demo tape of Steve Perry and he nearly lost his mind. He knew he had to have this amazing singer. He worked up a plan to have Robert gone from the studio and had Perry fill in as an alternate. Robert was obviously let go and Perry was signed on. The crazy thing about all this is that the group were not sold on the idea of Perry as lead singer at first. Can you imagine that!! Thank goodness the manager had the balls to make that happen. The song of the demo that the manager got ahold of is "If you need me call me" Check it out. Vintage Steve. Cheers.

Amazing that they'd only been together (Steve Perry as lead vocals) for about 6 months when they appeared on The Midnight Special. I remember watching & instantly became a Journey fan, my favorite group of all time!!
I saw Journey 6 days before this Midnight Special, on 4-22-1978, at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa, with Montrose and Van Halen, who were on tour in support of their first album. Got to see my favorite drummer, Aynsley Dunbar of Journey, and Eddie Van Halen in the same show. A great show it was!
WOW, what a AWESOME blast from the past! Thank you so much for sharing this video with all of us!! The greatest Voice ever, and band! Can you just imagine, what more great music we could of had if they had stayed together!!
Journey with Steve Perry as the lead sing is the only real Journey, the band that out now is a cover band doing songs Steve did a lot better, There will never be another Journey without Steve
