Hey guys! I know it’s been quite a while and well, to begin, I REALLY missed this. I missed making the videos, I missed talking to you guess. Putting these out is the highlight of my week. With that said, with everything going on in out there I did need to focus on my other business over the last 3 weeks to ensure that if my girlfriend was laid off we would be alright. In the end I was able to get done what I needed to and I should be back to posting fairly regularly :) I have a lot of really cool surprises coming up and some great collaborative efforts to share. In this episode you will hear and see some legends that I had the pleasure of speaking/working with. I will not be attending locals for the next little while (they are cancelled) but I do have some really cool things in the works. I’ve figured out how to continue the series and I do talk about that in the video. I hope you’re doing well. Today my Shaddoll Structure Decks came in because i wanted to play shaddoll. When i was making the deck i was like: "Now a new Ruggles Episode would be so cool while editing the deck." Then i opened youtube and the first video was the video from you, thanks man haha
Great episode. Just want to point out that in the first game your opponent couldn’t activate demise of the land when you summoned dark law. Since you activated mask change in response to pot of duality, mask change is chain link 2. The chain resolved backwards with dark law being summoned and then pot of duality resolving. Since dark law was summoned as chain link 2 or higher, there is no summon response window in which your opponent can activate demise of the land. This also means you’ll be able to rip a card out of their hand with dark law’s effect

I'm completely with you, man. I definitely think the greater appeal to the game is the friends and fun. Important not to lose sight of that :) As for locals, they will be back. Try to call some of your boys on Discord and playing on Dueling Book, it may help a little :)

Ruggles i have to admit this is my first comment I have posted and i have to say thank you im sure you get this alot but thank you you and your videos have inspired me to keep playing and right as i was on the cusp of retireing from the game. I for the longest time have not ha d much fun playing the game and had and still kinda do not have the confidence in my own abuility to play ive been playing since 2001 now being 35 years old been to a handful of regonals and never once getting my invite. I was down going on what seems like forever but in reality a 3 year straight loosing streak i was about to hang it up call it quits just mmaybe play once in a while but after i saw your first video and saw the passion i said to my self hey i have goles still i still want that invite and that chance to go to nationals maybe even the worlds i can give this one last shot give it my all. I may not have the money to dump into the best decks my pride also gets in the way but i have some guys that i play with that are trying to help me dispite my stuberness im slowly working my way up to be compettitive and one day soon after this whole virus thing is over and locals and regonals start up again i can get to meet those goals and one goal is to meet you have a good conversation with you. But i just want to finish and say again thank you for inspiring me.

Burning Abyss is very graveyard-reliant, so it's probably the right play to make Dark Law as soon as they have 2 level 3 monsters on board to go into the link monster. Also, negating the effect of Graff to special summon a Burning Abyss monster from the deck is pretty important.
The only channel where I consistantly go back and rewatch all the episodes. Just so well done and convinced me to return to Yugioh after so many years.

Jesse’s advice helped me loads and I found success myself and thought deeply the last couple days not only how to expand on this but consider side cards accordingly. As a long time hero player w/ the experience under my belt of 13yrs playing this game I can say w/o a shadow of a doubt I’ve never contemplated this hard on side choices in my Yugioh career.
I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh since highschool, but i cama back, 1 Mont i build and learning mechanic competitive deck SHS(Super Heavy Samurai) one of my favorite archetypes, thanks to inspiring sir

That board with dystopia, set mask change, abs zero, dark law, sunrise is kinda incredible. It's what hero should focus on instead of using three monsters for plasma. Plasma is great tho, but this is way more flexible even without dystopia since u can actually create this board with stratos, faris, mask change in mr5. Btw you dont have to pop nachster on summon if u control darklaw, since darklaw crosses out their option to megafleet anyway since he can't send his own cyber Dragon to his grave. Edit: put darklaw and abs zero and dystopia into def mode. It's a card less you lose to (lightning storm). The sidedeck choices you and Jesse made are very inspiring as well, thanks for your content, keep it up!
I'm totally with you, moving forward I would focus on the ab zero, d-law, sunriser and dystopia board. It's so much more flexible and responsive :) Also, thanks for the megafleet tip, didn't realize that!

Many thanks man! I wouldn't worry too much about Adusted or Bane if you intend on going first with the deck. I took them out for this video/week and had absolutely no regrets. The hands were less bricky and I didn't feel like I needed the extra power for OTKS. With that said, if you're playing a going second build, they're definitely pretty good ;)
Ruggles Thanks! I actually like going first. If I can set up Dark Law and Plasma, I feel like it’s a good board and some can have a tough time. Unless they have Raigeki or Dark Hole lol. I appreciate the advice and can’t wait to tweak my deck now. :)

I have watched every return to yugioh episode that you did and i must say you are doing an awesome job on these videos, improving your game mechanics bit by bit, taking us with you on the journey, absolutely wonderful! All so I would like to give you an advice:No main deck or deck in general is capable of beating every deck and that is why those side deck cards really matters.Studying other deck strategies is a great thing overall but in my opinion, stick to one deck that you feel most confident and comfortable on (not necessarily a meta deck) and know it by heart! An example for this would be the pend god,trif gaming.He is a mad lad on pendulum topping regionals with a post banlist deck before the banlist even come! I bet some day we would maybe see the arrival of a new hero god or cyber dragon god(or any deck god) named Ruggles

That was the deck I played last before I “retired”, ( denko dolls yo!) and the structure decks were the biggest reason for me wanting to play again. Hi, the activation of demise of the land was an error, you see, in that chain duality was chain link 1 and mask change chain link 2, your opponent can't play demise in that chain cause a Special Summon hasn't been performed by you yet, after that chain the summon would have been conducted during the chain before duality resolved, so even in a new chain the activation of that card would'n been possible since the last thing to happen was not you summoning a monster rather the pot resolving, also the first thing to pop off after the chain would have been dark law triggering as chain link 1 of a new chain
Honestly The advice of building your deck to help it do what it wants to do is so underrated and golden. Instead of forcing meta staples into an already tight build.
Yeah, it seems far more important to ensure that you have real consistency in combo decks and run whatever facilitates that over cards like ash, evenly matched or other good 'staples.' Easy to forget and a great lesson to be reminded of :)

Really glad that one of my favorite series returned, I'm really kinda sad for the whole virus thing, if you dont remember, I'm the gal who was building Onomatopoeia, by the time before the quarantine started I only was missing 6 cards from the main deck and 5 of the extra :c I hope that everything returns to normal soon so after I finish the deck I can play at my first locals

Yeah, being able to summon fusions anywhere makes the going second OTK strategy a lot more viable! I'm also trying out a new pure mr.5 Cyber Dragon build and I am in love with it. Super fun :)

If you're afraid of things like Raigeki/Dark Hole/Lightning Storm/Black Rose Dragon, side deck into Starlight Road. It doesn't stop the activation, but the effect -- which means that on a card like Lightning Storm, they don't get a second activation.
I've thought about it and it's definitely a neat idea. I may give it a try when Evenely Matched isn't so heavily played. Until then I think I'll try Solemns and Appointers as they deal with Raigeki/Dark Hole/Lightning Storm and Evenely... provided I draw them that is lol
Hey Ruggles, I just got back into the game and really only play with my cousin now and then. Right now we're resorting to google hangout duels with cheap webcams. We don'y play too competitively, but we like buying new budget decks. He bought sky strikers post engage ban and I bought Zefras most recently. I haven't checked out my locals because of the meeting time and day, but definitely hope to find a few good duelists to play with and get better at the game. Great stuff as always and hang in there.

Hey Ruggles! Love the vids. I’m a Burning Abyss player (well, one of the variants) who just recently got into competitive Yu-Gi-Oh altogether (not a returning player). In my version (Block/Earth BA), you’d want to make me go second so I can’t lock you out with Fossil Dyna. Be ready for 10 minutes of board spamming and you’re gonna want cards to stop GY interaction and try to stop the Cherubini play early on. If you can shut down the Block BA deck early on, it’s hard for us to get our ideal final board set up. For me, it’s Avramax-Block Dragon-Fossil Dyna-Beatrice. Hope that helps you moving forward against the matchup! Keep up the awesome work!!

Today my Shaddoll Structure Decks came in because i wanted to play shaddoll. When i was making the deck i was like: "Now a new Ruggles Episode would be so cool while editing the deck." Then i opened youtube and the first video was the video from you, thanks man haha
Great episode. Just want to point out that in the first game your opponent couldn’t activate demise of the land when you summoned dark law. Since you activated mask change in response to pot of duality, mask change is chain link 2. The chain resolved backwards with dark law being summoned and then pot of duality resolving. Since dark law was summoned as chain link 2 or higher, there is no summon response window in which your opponent can activate demise of the land. This also means you’ll be able to rip a card out of their hand with dark law’s effect

Ruggles i have to admit this is my first comment I have posted and i have to say thank you im sure you get this alot but thank you you and your videos have inspired me to keep playing and right as i was on the cusp of retireing from the game. I for the longest time have not ha d much fun playing the game and had and still kinda do not have the confidence in my own abuility to play ive been playing since 2001 now being 35 years old been to a handful of regonals and never once getting my invite. I was down going on what seems like forever but in reality a 3 year straight loosing streak i was about to hang it up call it quits just mmaybe play once in a while but after i saw your first video and saw the passion i said to my self hey i have goles still i still want that invite and that chance to go to nationals maybe even the worlds i can give this one last shot give it my all. I may not have the money to dump into the best decks my pride also gets in the way but i have some guys that i play with that are trying to help me dispite my stuberness im slowly working my way up to be compettitive and one day soon after this whole virus thing is over and locals and regonals start up again i can get to meet those goals and one goal is to meet you have a good conversation with you. But i just want to finish and say again thank you for inspiring me.

Burning Abyss is very graveyard-reliant, so it's probably the right play to make Dark Law as soon as they have 2 level 3 monsters on board to go into the link monster. Also, negating the effect of Graff to special summon a Burning Abyss monster from the deck is pretty important.

Jesse’s advice helped me loads and I found success myself and thought deeply the last couple days not only how to expand on this but consider side cards accordingly. As a long time hero player w/ the experience under my belt of 13yrs playing this game I can say w/o a shadow of a doubt I’ve never contemplated this hard on side choices in my Yugioh career.
I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh since highschool, but i cama back, 1 Mont i build and learning mechanic competitive deck SHS(Super Heavy Samurai) one of my favorite archetypes, thanks to inspiring sir

That board with dystopia, set mask change, abs zero, dark law, sunrise is kinda incredible. It's what hero should focus on instead of using three monsters for plasma. Plasma is great tho, but this is way more flexible even without dystopia since u can actually create this board with stratos, faris, mask change in mr5.
Btw you dont have to pop nachster on summon if u control darklaw, since darklaw crosses out their option to megafleet anyway since he can't send his own cyber Dragon to his grave.
Edit: put darklaw and abs zero and dystopia into def mode. It's a card less you lose to (lightning storm).
The sidedeck choices you and Jesse made are very inspiring as well, thanks for your content, keep it up!
I'm totally with you, moving forward I would focus on the ab zero, d-law, sunriser and dystopia board. It's so much more flexible and responsive :) Also, thanks for the megafleet tip, didn't realize that!

Many thanks man! I wouldn't worry too much about Adusted or Bane if you intend on going first with the deck. I took them out for this video/week and had absolutely no regrets. The hands were less bricky and I didn't feel like I needed the extra power for OTKS. With that said, if you're playing a going second build, they're definitely pretty good ;)
Ruggles Thanks! I actually like going first. If I can set up Dark Law and Plasma, I feel like it’s a good board and some can have a tough time. Unless they have Raigeki or Dark Hole lol. I appreciate the advice and can’t wait to tweak my deck now. :)

I have watched every return to yugioh episode that you did and i must say you are doing an awesome job on these videos, improving your game mechanics bit by bit, taking us with you on the journey, absolutely wonderful!
All so I would like to give you an advice:No main deck or deck in general is capable of beating every deck and that is why those side deck cards really matters.Studying other deck strategies is a great thing overall but in my opinion, stick to one deck that you feel most confident and comfortable on (not necessarily a meta deck) and know it by heart! An example for this would be the pend god,trif gaming.He is a mad lad on pendulum topping regionals with a post banlist deck before the banlist even come! I bet some day we would maybe see the arrival of a new hero god or cyber dragon god(or any deck god) named Ruggles

Hi, the activation of demise of the land was an error, you see, in that chain duality was chain link 1 and mask change chain link 2, your opponent can't play demise in that chain cause a Special Summon hasn't been performed by you yet, after that chain the summon would have been conducted during the chain before duality resolved, so even in a new chain the activation of that card would'n been possible since the last thing to happen was not you summoning a monster rather the pot resolving, also the first thing to pop off after the chain would have been dark law triggering as chain link 1 of a new chain

Honestly The advice of building your deck to help it do what it wants to do is so underrated and golden. Instead of forcing meta staples into an already tight build.
Yeah, it seems far more important to ensure that you have real consistency in combo decks and run whatever facilitates that over cards like ash, evenly matched or other good 'staples.' Easy to forget and a great lesson to be reminded of :)

Heya! Really glad that one of my favorite series returned, I'm really kinda sad for the whole virus thing, if you dont remember, I'm the gal who was building Onomatopoeia, by the time before the quarantine started I only was missing 6 cards from the main deck and 5 of the extra :c

Yeah, being able to summon fusions anywhere makes the going second OTK strategy a lot more viable! I'm also trying out a new pure mr.5 Cyber Dragon build and I am in love with it. Super fun :)

If you're afraid of things like Raigeki/Dark Hole/Lightning Storm/Black Rose Dragon, side deck into Starlight Road. It doesn't stop the activation, but the effect -- which means that on a card like Lightning Storm, they don't get a second activation.
I've thought about it and it's definitely a neat idea. I may give it a try when Evenely Matched isn't so heavily played. Until then I think I'll try Solemns and Appointers as they deal with Raigeki/Dark Hole/Lightning Storm and Evenely... provided I draw them that is lol

I just got back into the game and really only play with my cousin now and then. Right now we're resorting to google hangout duels with cheap webcams. We don'y play too competitively, but we like buying new budget decks. He bought sky strikers post engage ban and I bought Zefras most recently. I haven't checked out my locals because of the meeting time and day, but definitely hope to find a few good duelists to play with and get better at the game.

Hey Ruggles! Love the vids. I’m a Burning Abyss player (well, one of the variants) who just recently got into competitive Yu-Gi-Oh altogether (not a returning player). In my version (Block/Earth BA), you’d want to make me go second so I can’t lock you out with Fossil Dyna. Be ready for 10 minutes of board spamming and you’re gonna want cards to stop GY interaction and try to stop the Cherubini play early on. If you can shut down the Block BA deck early on, it’s hard for us to get our ideal final board set up. For me, it’s Avramax-Block Dragon-Fossil Dyna-Beatrice. Its refreshing to see this while trapped at home lol also that appointer of the red lotus card is actually a great idea as a side card to stop evenly, lightning storm n other cards. Defiently gave me an idea on a side card for my stun deck. Keep up the good work man👊🏾👍🏾
