- The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants has expressed concern about the rising number of black students who are falling at the final hurdle to qualify for the coveted profession.
Only 24 percent of black students who wrote the final Board Exam last year managed to pass.
This marks a significant deterioration from a 44 percent pass rate among black students in 2019.
Senior Executive of National Projects at SAICA, Robert Zwane gives more insight.

Who is marking these Exams ? This is very strange pass all the exams and final exams black people are failing something is wrong.
True!
Something doesn’t add up.
The exams are marked by qualified chartered accountants, after which is is reviewed by another marker. Candidates are not allowed to identify themselves in any way in their answer scripts and may only use their exam numbers. This means that the candidates are evaluated SOLELY on their ability to prove that they are competent CAs and failure means that this was not sufficiently demonstrated.
@@krystengeldenhuys309 Thanks for clarity but I think probe into this matter is also welcomed there is something dat doesn't add up to me
@@afrikawewant5390 It all depends on how hard you work. If you don't work hard and prepare for the exams well enough, you will fail regardless of your skin colour.
Follow your passion and do well. Follow a crowd and live a miserable life
Absolutely true
The possible reason could be most black candidates do their articles in the public sector like AG and other government institutions, and these exams are based on private sector experiences , accounting standards etc
You might be onto something bc AGSA has the poorest performance across the board
I will bet this happens in other qualifications as well.
One in four pass, this is as a result of our educational system. People of all races should not be handicapped because of this.
I hope they will not mark according to skin color. Competence knows no skin color.
We cannot blame historical advantage people (aka apartheid) we have been free of the apartheid government for 27 years. Come now people.
Have you seen a township school? We are worlds apart!
After 27 years, only the ANC to blame. Why are townships not open to all races, but other suburbs are? It is up to the residents of the townships to make change happen, and we are not talking about toy-toying & routing. Rather sweep your street, pickup rubbish & plant grass on the road verge, not dirt.
@@JT-jq7uf You speak facts. I won't argue with facts but unfortunately this how things are currently. Corruption and incompetence reigns supreme in this country.
342 years of white rule vs 27 years of attempted inclusive rule, I would assume it would take longer to undo 342 years. But I would ask you how long should it take ? or against whose time frame are you comparing South Africa to ?
@@nkanyezishange6372 342 years what nonsense😂😂
Issues at hand for aBantu:
1. The use of Surnames should be removed to avoid directed/personal discriminations based on names(stud number system will make it hard for racists marker) OR
2. Other races don't share resources OR
3. Lack of Access to Information/resources/finances to prepare for exams
If you get your facts straight, you will know that you are not allowed to identify yourself in the exam.
Lower the pass rate. It worked everywhere else .
No, that will lower the standards of the profession. If you can't get 50% then you are not cut out for the profession.
Its already lowered 30 % pass rate and yet they still fail
Houston we have a major problem
"AFRICAN" candidates. That's an extremely discriminatory statement. African is a nationality and not a race, racists.
Found your talent follow your dream
80 percent to go to varsity
So they pass the tests predating this board exam and then all of a sudden they fail no guys 😏🤔🤔 there's something fishy here I need to go see who is in charge of that institution. Oh again Indian and coloured community where given a slight preference even during apartheid it's not a surprising at all .
There is nothing fishy here. Also you are not allowed to identify yourself in the exam so the markers don't know your skin colour. There is no preference to Indians and Coloureds. If you don't work hard enough, you will fail. Simple as that.
@@avikarsewpersad9856 What if they are already identified in previous years ? Oh again how do they mark tests with no identities ? This is blatant racism and has to be thoroughly investigated .
@@mosalethoba5267 You can glue your name shut and only have a number.
@@mosalethoba5267 you are given an exam number to write down on your answer paper. Like I said the markers don't know your identity, only your exam number so there is no bias to anyone. Also the person in charge of SAICA is Freeman Nomvalo. Are you trying to tell me he is racist?
