The Puma with the Union Jack tail is an anniversary paint job celebrating 50 years of Puma in service.
The Chinook with the Union Jack is celebrating 40 years of Chinook in service.

Love how that first Chinook was “Nah, I’m not putting my wheels down on the main runway and taxiing, i will just land where I intend to stop” 😂

First went in a Puma as a cadet in 1972… ended up clocking over 2,000 hours on them … can’t believe it’s the same tail numbers flying now as I flew all those years ago… Great aircraft though… One of my favourites!

@April 2089 Got Army wings in 1980, operated the Gazelle with 3 Commando Brigade then the Puma with the 33 Squadron RAF 1984/87

I’ve been in Lynx (hedge hopping in South Armagh) Puma(did a stall test in one of those with a large door gunner doing handstands on two fingers as the negative G’s kicked in ),Chinook’s and Sea Kings bringing back some great memories of times long since past.
I was involved with the early strip out operations at Bessbrook in the early 90’s and the rebuild of XMG which incidentally was the biggest Chopper airlift since the Falklands.
    An Ex Sapper.

I was in FKL when the Sappers rebuilt it in 1991. Everything came in by Chinook or Puma, with groups of Lynx providing top cover.

There wasn't any Sea King, instead they were Royal Navy AgustaWestland AW101 Merlin Mk.2. The Westland Sea King was retired from operational service in 2016. We used Chinook to transport our vehicles back in the 1980s with 5 Airborne Brigade.

I saw two formations consisting of one Chinook and two Apaches each over Germany today. I was wondering if they were British or American because I could not see their colour propery. Either way, good to have you chaps arround when the russians get cheeky. Greetings from Germany and God Save the Queen.

I love the sound of Chinooks, you can hear them coming from miles away, I looked after a place near Midhurst, West Suusex, and they used to come in pairs and land on the cricket pitch at the back of the site, loads of squaddies would run out with all their kit and dive to the ground, then all run back onboard and off they would go again, it never got boring.

This whole video reminds me of a film clip during the Vietnam war. Now in modern times, it's a film clip during the Russian/Ukraine war. If those choppers are carrying high end military staff, then you can bet it's not for a catch up over a cup of coffee. It's very dangerous times at the moment with the conflict in the Ukraine.

its obviously a training exercise to move government people and diginatrys out of London, in the event of a nuclear conflict, the main people are in london and will have to move very quickly to safety in different parts of the country. they've obviously got to get the training spot on.

Ok so Northolt is in London? Because I see one go over my house in Woodford in essex and it was light grey and had rockets either side. Now I’ve seen chinooks go that way one after the other and return but never knew there was a base there. Least now that makes sense. Thanks for video footage it’s really good with sun setting.

RAF Northolt had Spitfires in WW2, very important given its proximity to London. Also RAF North Weald to the east and RAF Biggin Hill to the south.

That's a possibility. What with everything happening in Ukraine I can imagine that as a precaution, the SAS have been instructed to, at the very least, increase how much they're training so they're as precise as possible in the event that the situation changes for the worse and they're needed for anything.
