Taylor Fravel, Arthur and Ruth Sloan Professor of Political Science and director of the MIT Security Studies Program, sits down with his long-time friend Mike Green of Logica Capital Advisors to discuss a multitude of factors affecting China's strategic objectives. Although they examine certain aspects like demographics and the trajectory of growth for China's military, the focus of the interview is on geography and how China’s large number of land borders and their perception of being blocked off from the Pacific Ocean by U.S. military presence in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines makes the "first island chain" a potential flashpoint for conflict. Green and Fravel also discuss Green's hypothesis that Vladimir Putin and the Russians are the deftest participants in the triangular relationship between the U.S., China, and Russia. The problem now is the full USD adoption by China.... talking about geopolitics and not about USD is looking juts half of the picture.
It will be easy to identify China’s decision to move on Taiwan by viewing their pre attack supply chain purchasing. Any attack on Taiwan would make the South China Sea and the Taiwan Straights a NO-GO zone for global trade. That would require a rapid and short conquer phase. Any longer attack would ensure economic collapse of China. The best defense of Taiwan would be for the allies to strategically draw out that time frame.

The relationship between China and Russia will remain temporary. Russia is the ONLY country that has never returned the land it took during the mid-1800's. UNTIL that land is returned to China, the Chinese-Russian relationship is doomed.

A wonderful and kind guest.
