  • The Audi A7 is a large premium car that competes with the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe - but can the new A7 retain all the things that made the first one great? With a new look and turbo V6 petrol, initial impressions are good. Tom heads to Brisbane with the 250kW A7 55 TFSI to start finding out.
    Do you like the Audi A7? Did you think the first version was cool? How about this one? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

    I love ❤ my Audi. It was my dream car. It's so smart, still don't know much about it, just driving.

    Good to see manufacturers giving you access first. Shows what we all know already, your reviews are near the top of Australian automotive.

      Thanks Dave. That’s very kind of you. It was great to drive the A7 so early on get a video out on it.

    Very informative video ... presentation is reassuring. The location was pleasing. Well in the video you mentioned about new touch MMI which i completely hate. Do you think the A7 is more Audi's version of Arteon? Both are still FWD biased no? I have a minor suggestion ... can you consider including acceleration time (0-100 and in gear), stopping distance etc.... That would be great and makes more easy ....:)

    Besides noticing some strange image stabilising in your internal footage, great presentation as always. Also is it a Tom baker review without a reassuring thud from a rear door?

      Thanks Abs. Yes, the videographer on the A7 launch was using a handheld stabilised gimbal. Not sure about that. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the rest of it!

    Great presenter, very genuine and honest about your opinions Tom! Also well sorted media team behind you!
    But hey, just add a bit more enthusiasm, and perhaps even engage with the audience will be perfect!

    Always my favourite Audi styling wise - RS7 such a great sounding car as well - glad dynamics improved however 45 and 55 model designations are a bit odd IMO. Great review Tom :)

      Thanks, Malcolm! I know most people think the new engine naming structure is awkward, but I really do applaud Audi for at least having a stab at a system that will equalise petrol, diesel, electric and other fuel types and make it clear where a car 'sits' within the performance spectrum of the range. I think it's a good idea worth exploring.

    Thorough review Tom, as we now expect. I like the A7, especially as it isn't a SUV. It's a shame about the dreaded touch screen for climate control - hard to use on the road, especially in the sun, although at least there is a button for demist.

    Do you find it to be too heavy on the touch side? Pretty distracting when driving I think

      Yes, honestly, I do. I preferred the old MMI with the rotary dial controller. Maybe the new setup will grow on me, though.

    I'm planning to buy the a7 in a few months, which wheels would be most suitable for the Audi a7 on Australian roads, the 20 inch or the 21 inches?

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. If you don’t mind waiting a few months, I’d put in an order for an A7 on 20-inch wheels with adaptive air suspension. That would ride beautifully on our roads. If you don’t want to wait you’re probably best to find a car with the premium plus package, which has 21s and air suspension - but note that these bigger wheels do feel a bit choppy (but better than 20s without air suspension). Hopefully that makes sense!

      @@chasingcars Thanks for your quick reply. I have one final question. I am planning to also buy the A7 with the 55 TFSI engine, although, I have heard a few other reviewers mention that the best engine for the A7 is in fact the 50 TDI. Would you recommend the petrol engine or the diesel?

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure yet as the 50 TDI is not yet available in Australia, though I have driven it in the A8. For me, this sort of sporty four door coupe suits a petrol engine better, so I’d go the 55 TFSI

    What happened to your usually brilliant camera work? It's all over the place in this video and I found it quite distracting.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there are some less than ideal moments. The videographer on the A7 launch was operating on a stabilised but handheld gimbal. Most of the stuff you see on this channel is either locked-off on tripod or handheld but with a full chest rig, which I think yields better results.

    Audi used to have such a great balance of materials - wood, metal, and leather. This new design direction seems like an endless sea of glass. How unfortunate!

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once I was up close and personal with this interior, I liked it. The grey leather is nice, there are soft little ultrasuede inserts in the doors, and the aluminium is very cold and handsome. I believe wood will also be available, however.
