    Well, there was a woman who yelled at Churchill. "Go home you drunk man!"

    If I remember correctly, I believe the speech teddy gave after being shot was about 45 min- 1 hour longish. When Teddy was president, he heard some of his cavalry units were complaining about having to ride 25 miles a day for training. Teddy roosevelt, being a rough rider at heart, jumped on his horse as soon as possible and rode 100 miles in a single day to show his men how actual men go about bussiness.

    Theodore Roosevelt was truly the most American man you could ever think of. His life story is so full of adventures and accomplishments and to think that he was born with severe asthma and a walking disability. He was certainly someone who took life a step further. A man who built himself through fitness, education, and ambition. Went to Ivy League school, served as a police commissioner for New York City, led the most badass military unit during the Spanish-American War; The Rough Riders, a multi-racial cavalry unit. Became the youngest President to be elected into office, invited Booker T Washington to the White House to advise him on to build and support black communities across the country, founded the National Parks and preservation of animals (if it wasn’t for him, the Buffalo would’ve gone extinct long ago). This was a man who was BIGGER than life, if people walked up to you and told you he wrestled a bear, you honestly wouldn’t doubt it. He truly was a man who embodied the American spirit and he is by far my second favorite president, after Abraham Lincoln.

    Something no one has pointed out that some people and maybe even Rich might not know is that when he says "I should stuff you in a pram just so you can throw your toys out" is reference to a British saying of "Throw one's toys out of the pram" which is like a baby throwing a tantrum for not getting it's way and throwing it's toys out of the pram, which is a way the British call baby strollers. Also the Teddy Bear line came from the fact the iconic toy was named after Roosevelt who's nickname was "Teddy"...a nickname which he absolutely HATED.

    When Bismarck was close to the Russian Embassy, Cohen-Blind took aim and fired twice from behind; Bismarck spun around and grabbed his attacker, who was able to fire three more shots before soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Guards rushed up and took him into custody. Bismarck continued on his way home. Later that night, he allowed the King's physician, Gustav von Lauer, to examine him. Lauer noted that the first three bullets had only grazed Bismarck's body and the last two had ricocheted off the ribs and had caused no major injuries.

    Very clever. An MP in Parliament called Churchhill a drunk. Churchhill responded "I may be drunk, but you're ugly, and in the morning I'll be sober, but you'll still be ugly."
    And TR did actually say "It takes more than that to kill a bull moose!" Admittedly, he was running for a third term under the Bull Moose Party.

    Roosevelt's speech was super long. He was opposed to it, but kept the length anyways. It was folded up and kept in his breast pocket when he was shot. The speech was so thick it stopped the bullet. Unphased, he continued on to do his speech. No bleeding.

    Well it wasn't his chest that just absorbed the bullet, he had his long speech and his glasses case in his front pocket, both of which helped slow down the bullet which still got stuck in his chest cavity. Roosevelt was a pro hunter, so after he got shot he coughed into his hand to see that there wasn't blood, which meant he didnt get hit in the lung. After he saw that he was fine, that's when he decided to continue his 85 minute speech.
    Even though the bullet got slowed down, he still took it like a man, which is still extremely admirable

    I think the reason that the average age of death was so low in the past was because the statistics include infant mortalities. People do live a little longer than they used to on average (like 5-10 years), but the main reason the average life expectancy has gone up is because less infants die in childbirth.

Jackson beat his would be assassin unconscious (think he died later)with his cane. He was like 12 during the Rev. war and when he and his bro were captured by redcoats they told them to shine their boots and Jackson stepped hard and spit on the officer which got him knocked out. His spoken last regret was not killing the women who dishonored his wife which led to her withering away. I think there was like 4 to 6 duels... dude was a mad hatter

    This battle is reeeaaaally epic if you know the histories and speeches and legends surrounding these two guys. Theodore is definitely a badass, but Churchill, despite being perpetually drunk and always talking with a cigar in his mouth, gave some absolutely chilling speeches. Two lines here 'I'll battle you on the beaches' and 'I'll fight you to the end and I will never surrender' are references to his famous speeches, where in Britain's darkest days on the verges of invasion from Germany when Churchill was elected in emergency, he had a do-or-die moment to reignite some passion in the demotivated British, and his steeled resolve and stating without hesitation that Britain would fight Germany to the end and never surrender, and that they'll fight them in the air, they'll fight them on the beaches , was just the kind of passionate anger from a leader Britain needed to spark that patriotism. While it's true the war may have ended differently if Pearl Harbor never happened, Churchill was quite the unshakable bulldog.

    There's more to the line "TR will give WC the full deuce" -- WC in England is also short for "Water Closet" and I bet you can guess which room in the house THAT is! I wonder if Winston ever got teased for his initials or if outhouses were more common where / when he grew up.

    WC is also the abbreviation for "wash closet" which refers to the toilet. Full deuce (a slang for a big shit). Then Winston counters "whatever shit you throw at me, I'll just return to sender" to refer (rather broadly) to presidential mudslinging, but I am unsure if Teddy Roosevelt experienced that.

      @@ethanwilliams4559 you say rebelled. we say taken. places like Canada and Australia didn't really rebel they just sort of left because they managed to get an economy going, there was no fight there. Indian's rebellion was more of a rebellion against the caste system rather than directly against British rule. and before you say the British brought in the caste system remember it was already in place for centuries before the British arrived in India. the Africans were treated badly but you should remember, the other colonial powers were committing worse acts and doing worse things at the time. america was a bit of a mess but less because of tyranny and more because of american entitlement. but otherwise, you cant really say it wasn't the greatest empire. it covered the most land, changed the world the most, produced the most resources and committed the least atrocities of any other empire. so in a way it was the greatest. in comparison to all others

      @sethbennett617 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hentai is an Art stop. first off, what do you mean by sacrificed? cause if you mean territory then the american colonies only lost land back to the people they stole it from. and second, the taxes weren't that high, every other colony in the empire had the same taxes and had no problem with it. so when i say entitled i mean a group of people living on stolen extremely fertile land with extreme amounts of timber in a moderate climate got really annoyed at a tax that people living in much harsher environments were fine with the same tax.
      you said Britain escalated things, may i remind you that the first attacks came from the colonies. such as the Boston massacre that was initiated by revolutionaries. i'm not saying that the revolution was irrational, im just saying it was less reasonable than many people think

  • @Extra_050
    @Extra_050 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes indeed, the story of Theodore Roosevelt getting shot but surviving and mocking his would-be assassin is true, or at least mostly true. A Bavarian immigrant who worked as a barman believed that a dream had told him to shoot the former president. He stalked and at last fired at him, but the full strength of the shot was taken by Roosevelt's glasses case, as well as a thick wad of folded papers from which he had been about to give a speech. Since the bullet hadn't pierced his lung (as Roosevelt knew well, as a keen hunter) he reasoned, correctly, that the shot was non-fatal and so continued with his speech, merely remarking that the damaged papers meant he couldn't speak for as long as he'd have liked and going on to make sure that the gunman had a fair trial instead of being summarily executed, as some of his followers wanted. He suffered no damage to any internal organs, but the bullet was still very deep and it remained lodged in his chest muscles for the rest of his life, despite the effort of various surgeons.

    Roosevelt basically knew that the bullet wasn't too serious since if it had punctured his lungs he would've been coughing up blood. Since that wasn't the case and he wasn't on death's door he could kinda tell that nothing too vital in his chest was hit. Of course, still doesn't make a speech advisable from a medical perspective... But it's kinda advisable in becoming a legend lol
