Hope you enjoy your stay man. Would recommend visiting the Casbah, Martyrs Monument (and its museum, war of liberation themed) and the Jardin D'essai (botanical garden).
For traditional food I'd recommend: Chorba with Bourek, Rechta, Chakhchoukha and everything else.
For traditional street snacks I'd recommend M'hajeb and/or Karantika.

Most popular drink is not slim but Selecto or Hamoud ( white or black) 🙂. restaurand was empty because people in Algeria eat traditionnal meals at home with friends or family not athe restaurant. But you'll find a lot of very good streetfood

algerians love tourists, tbh tourism here isn't that much of a thing like so the usual annoyance of tourists you'd find in some other countries doesn't exist in Algeria, the ppl are very welcoming for anyone wanting to get to know the locals, the culture and the country

Additional information : The price of the place you rent is probably high compared to the size and quality because there is a lot of Algerians living in France that goes to Algeria during their vacations and rent little apartment like this one, so the demand is high, and it increases the prices. But since Algeria is not really touristic, there are no scammers trying to make money and charge extra fees on them. An apartment like this one is around $100 a month paid by a citizen who lives there.

@@willg1088 They are not rare in big cities and sahara eventho the visa is hard to get but europeans are always here, even if not for tourism in Algiers Chinese, Turkish and Korean workers are everywhere and they never got scammed and that's why our prices always displayed
@@willg1088 They didn't change the price they sell it for locals with the same price and it depends on the restaurant and the taste it can be cheaper in Khaima Restaurants , but if you look for the cheaper one in normal restaurants it won't be delicious

Thanks and the visa process took about 2 weeks. It was an easy process - just mail in the required documents and you’ll be good to go.

I sent my docs to the embassy; they called back asking my reason for visiting; I said for tourism; they said "ok" and approved the visa 🤷🏿♂

Algiers is home to Nobel Prize in Literature recipient Albert Camus simply one of the most brilliant authors of the 20th century and father of existentialism itself . Also author Paul Bowles of The Sheltering Sky famous book was an ex-Pat there . Aside from the spirit of these two geniuses the best of them all is a French author and veteran of the Algerian Civil War brutal and catastrophic I forget his name but he wrote TOMB OF 500.000 Soldiers and Eden Eden Eden both are impossible to find prohibitively expensive and yes English translations forget it I bought and read Tomb twenty years ago and it's one of the greatest anti-war novels ever written but it's so much more I could write pages as to its merit . I haven't read Eden Eden Eden yet I got lucky last year and secured an English translation for $35 savoring the time and place for it to blow my mind - Tomb of 500k Soldiers is EVERY BIT as good as if not superior to Joseph Conrad's Hearts of Darkness- a true story mind you when he was a river boat captain on a commercial boat on the Congo River in the Belgian Congo during King Leopold II's genocidal reign of terror in search of rubber sap. 💀💀💀
