Anthony Burger was the pianist. He was a prodigy, who had been burned seriously as a toddler, and never regained the feeling in his fingers. However, and obviously, it never kept him down when playing the piano was involved. He passed away in February 2006 while playing the piano on a Gaither homecoming cruise. I was blessed enough to meet him a couple of times, and he was a very sweet man, not to mention one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. Good job on the reaction. David is another remarkable talent, and I think even if they never did another thing worth remembering, this performance made by both David and Anthony will be one that will go down in history!
My kids make fun of me because I listen to this song year round. Whenever I’m not feeling well I play it and close my eyes and I swear I see the Angels praising the name of Jesus!
You’re absolutely right, listening to David sing this song can bring out the emotions of joy and sorrow all at once. Joy of the Lord and sorrow for what he went through even without thinking about it.
Not only is he anointed and is the best tenor on earth today, he is a very humble and kind person. I have seen him twice in person and I will never forget it!
The piano player is Anthony Berger. He played for the Gaithers been a years but passed away when he was in his early 40s playing the piano on a Gaither cruise. He was amazing as a person as well as a piano player. 13:20
When this time of year comes around, this is what I listen to many times. David is the absolute best singer there is, and this version of the song is just very special.
Whitney Houston said David had one of the best male voices she ever heard. Quite a compliment. He actually sang her song I have nothing. David sang a song he wrote and sang with his daughter called Water. It's about the woman at the well. Unfortunately the piano player passed away. When he was a child he burned the his finger tips badly so it's a miracle he could even play the piano, especially as well as he played it.
"I HAVE NOTHING" & "NO MORE NIGHT", are a must listen! Thanx for your reaction too! David Phelps's music comes straight from his heart!! From the State of Minnesota U.S.A.
"O Holy Night" is David's favorite Christmas song, he sings it every night during his Christmas tour, he does have 3 different versions of it, but this one is the greatest performance of this song ever. It would benefit you to react to more David and GVB.
David Phelps, in my opinion, is the best singer I've ever heard, and, yes, he does "live" the words he's singing. Anthony Burger is the pianist who, sadly, passed away at the age of 54 of a heart attack. He was playing the piano while on a Gaither Alaskan Cruise. He's truly amazing because when he was young, his hands got burned severely, and he was told he would probably never play the piano, again. Thank God he persevere and became the best pianist ever! As for David, he's now 55 years old, but still sings as well, if not better, then he did back when this performance was recorded (20 years ago?). Two songs that i see many reactions to are: No More Night and Whitney Houston's song I Have Nothing. David sings it very close to Whitney's version, but adds just a few of his own changes. He was 52 when he recorded it. As a subscriber and fan of David Phelps, i thank you for listening to and reacting to his version of O Holy Night.
I think this had to be in the mid 1990's at least. Not only did Anthony Burger pass away in 2006, but George Younce, and Howard and Vestal Goodman are in the audience and they passed away in the early 2000's
I love this him but David Phelps kiss one of the greatest performances of this ever!! His vocal control is beyond belief!! I love the audience in the background is the Gaither choir! It doesn’t get any better than this performance! So often we don’t get the second verse when it is sung! David has four children of his own two boys and two girls that have song with him as well! Thanks for reacting to this! Merry Christmas!!
This song is special to me, too. I've listened to David's performance many times, and every single time, it gets me and I tear up. He is so expressive and touches all the emotions.
I just stumbled on your channel and there were you and David Phelps and since he's my all-time favorite tenor I had to listen and watch. What an awesome reaction you did to David. I certainly hope we will see him again on your channel. His version of 'Mary Did You Know' from his ' Holiday celebration concert' is awesome! Totally different from this o holy night where he has so much power. Mary did you Know ' is just the opposite. Very soft and tender, definitely shows his control. Absolutely beautiful. Hopefully you will react to that during this Christmas season.😊
His rendition is my favourite one....tbh...this video took in year 2000...the pianist is Anthony Burger....he passed away years ago....I kinda know them ...I met this group when I was like 7yo....I saw some of Gaither's singers in the audience...love from Indonesia
I first heard the Gaithers at about 10 yrs old... which was 1972. They already had stuff written. So they may have started in the 60s. But def before the 80s. 👍 Also, they wrote songs that were sang in churches everywhere, for decades.
I'm not even a Christian and I still (for at least 10 years now) listen to this and recommend it to anyone I meet who is wondering what Christmas songs to play. It's definitely an emotional experience. This "Green Sweater" performance is the best ever of "Oh, Holy Night".
David eally lives his songs.you can tell...that truly makes a huge difference!!! O holy night is my all time favourite christmas song. If i never hear any more of them that one is the only one for me.
To those that God Loves but who refuse to believe it: this performance is one of an infinite number of ways the Spirit knocks on our door. Answer the Knock and start afresh, cleansed and forgiven. And know that every day is a new beginning in Christ Jesus. May God bless you and yours.
You have to look at his catalog of songs. He’s in his mid 50s and still going strong. He sings with his two daughters and his sister plays horns with the band.
The Gaithers started out earlier than the 80s as the Gaither Trio with Bill and Gloria and Bill's brother. This is from a Gaither homecoming which is a gathering of many of the legends of Southern Gospel music. It started with a few visiting in Bill and Gloria's home gathered around a piano and them videoing it. It grew to them traveling together, all over the world. Spreading the gospel of Christ through music. Many, including the pianist in this performance, are no longer with us.
My favorite vocal performance of all-time -- better then I ever heard even better than Austin Brown, And I love they performed the 2nd verse which is not very common,.....it's such a special performance
If u enjoyed this stunning performance which to me is hands down the best ever so look up Anthony Burger playing the chorus from the Messiah pay attention to how his hands are a blur at the end unbelievable!! Enjoy 🙋🏼♀️🎹
Did a thing called homecoming which they took all the famous old-time and current gospel singers around two different parts of the country, and they all just sing different songs. That was their son. They had pets and they gave their vocal band and so many others. So all those people were actual singers themselves professional. I always loved how they would get choked up when they would hear David sing one of those songs
David Phelps isn't my FAVORITE singer on the Gaithers, but I've always said, he's the most passionate singer on ANY song he sings! Gordon Mote is a great piano player (especially since he's blind), but Anthony Burger, who's playing this, has ALWAYS been my favorite (but this was NOTHING compared to hearing him play solo's by himself)!
That pianist suffered severe burns to his hands as a toddler. The doctors said that he wasn't expected to be able to use them. He started playing piano at a very early age and praised God every time he played. His name was Anthony Burger. He passed away while playing piano at one of the Gaither Homecoming shows, if I'm not mistaken, in Canada.
Another kid of history is built, and Gloria Gaither we the founders basically of the contemporary Christian music started back in the late 60s early 70s so many of the songs you probably didn’t even know that they wrote
Best tenor on the planet!! Check out No More Night and Let Freedom Ring (Gaither Group with David Phelps) live from Carnegie Hall in NYC.. Another completely different version .. metal singer Dan Vasc sings this and he is amazing .. he has 1million subs.
Thank you for the wonderful reaction. I have said that David has ruined so many songs for me, by which I mean I can't listen to a performance of the song by someone else without thinking about how much better David does it. Lol. This video was originally released in 2000, and might have been recorded the year before that. "O Holy Night" was written by Adolphe Adam.
Wow! Josh Groban's cover of this is my favorite version (he was just a kid when he did it too), but I['d put this up there with the Michael Crawford version. Excellent! Something so safe and soothing about this song, too! And keep rockin' the beanie, LT!💜
This always makes me emotional. 😭😭😭 What our Savior did for us is absolutely amazing, and David Phelps just really conveys that!!! Check out Dan Vasc's version if O Holy Night!!!
For a couple of my favorite Christmas songs, check out Geoff Castellucci's 'God, Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' and Dan Vasc's 'Angels We Have Heard on High'. Both are incredibly good!
David is a great tenor. He was part of the Christian "Gaither Vocal Band" for many years, but he left the band in 2017 to concentrate on his solo career. You should also watch him singing "Water" with his daughter Maggie Beth Phelps: th-cam.com/video/cPcg-SBsOnY/w-d-xo.html A wonderful performance. There are many great covers of O Holy Night, but I think this one is my favorite version. It's a spiritual experience. I'm glad that you also mentioned the pianist. Anthony Burger was an excellent piano player. Unfortunately he died at the age of 44 from a heart attack. It's worth checking out some videos of him playing the piano masterfully, e.g. "Exodus" th-cam.com/video/Pv3pOP2GkKM/w-d-xo.html 🙂
They Love the Lord. The gather vocal band in Hawaii= you must watch. He is Anthony Burger and was never supposed to use his hands from severe burns.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. Anthony unfortunately passed away ON a Gaither Cruise. He died playing. The Hawaii video is older but they are all just worshipping from the❤
20 years later.. an exquisite performance in his studio in his"barn" .. It is more precisely sung and he lets it develop slower making the ending magical and powerful beyond imagination th-cam.com/video/Jue1SEnBE9U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8oxcBWq7c4aXjVDo
Often times these days we hear a woman singer like 'When You Say Nothing At All's Alison Krause and say her voice is like that of an angel, BUT I have looked in the Holy Bible and found not one female angel's name, just names like Michael, Gabriel, indeed when you read the early books you see the Angels are quoted as saying, 'let us go down among men and take the daughters of men as wives', so, ARE there no female angels at all? If that is the case then none of the women, not Alison, or Lee Ann Womack (I Hope You Dance) actually have voices of angels. That said, if you picture David's conviction during this song you can easily see him leading a host of angels that appeared to the shepherds, Praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the Highest. On Earth Peace, Good Will to men.'
The piano player is Anthony Berger. He played for the Gaithers been a years but passed away when he was in his early 40s playing the piano on a Gaither cruise. He was amazing as a person as well as a piano player. 13:20

There's only 1 David Phelps. Amazing voice, he sings for Jesus , & it shows!
My kids make fun of me because I listen to this song year round. Whenever I’m not feeling well I play it and close my eyes and I swear I see the Angels praising the name of Jesus!
The absolute best version of this Great song, ever. And it shows within the first 30 seconds of him singing.
Magical performance
You’re absolutely right, listening to David sing this song can bring out the emotions of joy and sorrow all at once. Joy of the Lord and sorrow for what he went through even without thinking about it.
Greatest male vocalist in the world and has been for the past 30 years.
Not only is he anointed and is the best tenor on earth today, he is a very humble and kind person. I have seen him twice in person and I will never forget it!
Seeing and hearing David Phelps sing O Holy Night in person is even better!!!!
Unmatched -- world class. No better version out there than this.
Have you also watched the LIVE video performance of: Sandy Parker singing “A Baby Changes Everything”. P.S. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Watched it one more time. Always makes me cry.
React to No more night & just as I am by David Phelps. They're amazing.
Whitney Houston said David had one of the best male voices she ever heard. Quite a compliment. He actually sang her song I have nothing. Welcome to, what we David Phelps fans call, the green sweater David Christmas!!!
@shayvogler. EXACTLY WHAT I SAY TOO WHEN RECOMMENDING IT!!😅😅
The Best Vocal David Phelps Tenor Bravooo❤
"I HAVE NOTHING" & "NO MORE NIGHT", are a must listen!
Thanx for your reaction too!
David Phelps's music comes straight from his heart!!
From the State of Minnesota U.S.A.
Between his voice and that piano - wow!!! Truly blessed.
"O Holy Night" is David's favorite Christmas song, he sings it every night during his Christmas tour, he does have 3 different versions of it, but this one is the greatest performance of this song ever. It would benefit you to react to more David and GVB.

This David Phelps singing “O Holy Night” video was performed At Alabama Theatre Birmingham, AL in 2000.
I just stumbled on your channel and there were you and David Phelps and since he's my all-time favorite tenor I had to listen and watch. What an awesome reaction you did to David. I totally agree with your reaction. I can feel the emotion and feelings behind the song. Beautiful!

Bill and Gloria have written over 750 gospel songs. They have been in gospel music for 60 plus years.

Every song David sings it has the same compassion!
My very favorite Christmas song. next only to Joy to the World. A beautiful rendition.

The late Anthony Burger on piano. Icing on the cake!
David Phelps is the best.

David Phelps is the Goat!
You need to hear his latest arrangement of O HOLY NIGHT and MARY DID YOU KNOW which is haunting
Another great Christmas arrangement and performance is O Come All Ye Faithful, and Mary Did You Know, both by Voctave
Best male voice ever..❤
Those tears you refer to are tears of reverence.

My favorite after I lost my middle son.

PENTATONIX does a jaw dropping version of O HOLY NIGHT!
❤❤❤❤❤
Salutări din România ! Poate ați dori să o ascultați și pe cântăreața româno americană Laura Bretan cântând acest cântec 🙋🇷🇴👍😊
Try Gabriel Henrique's and Dan Vasc's versions if you haven't. Gabriel does crazy high notes that could even be higher than Dismash's.
✝️♥️🙏

The best version of this song is by Josh Groban . I absolutely love it and I am an atheist.
