26-2 stihl is great also.
The speed feed you are right , easy fast and last longer.
They are the best! So much easier than the heads you have to take apart to refill the line. I’ll never go back to the old style…
That's the one I went back to. I learned from my Latino neighborino to wind it all in as a single line, and it lasts much longer, does the same job as the doubles!
Its too simple we live in a complicated world now
I received a Printout from my Stihl Dealer, and it was supposed to explain how to load this Line Head. It had taken the head off and loaded like days of old. I have watched two of your videos and I am so impressed Thank You! Subscribed!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Yep, best trimmer head ever. Have them on all my trimmers. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that bottom of the bump head is thinner than the ones with an actual bump knob. So, if you're one of those people that like to slide the head on the ground all the time, you'll wear a hole through it in short order. Had to train my workers to keep it off the ground.
I hated my speed feed head for the first week or two. Then I figured out how to line up the curved line and the straight tunnel. I'll never go back to taking the head apart. Old school line heads belong in a museum!! Another great video! No one should use a Stihl curved shaft trimmer!! LOL
Best invention ever so easy to load . No taking heads apart to load line . 100% agree with Steve
Truer words have never been spoken. They come on Echo trimmers, but I replace all of my Stihl heads before I even use them. Quickest re-string time ever and least amount of tangling - almost none at all. Good demo Steve!!
I can’t agree more. I don’t understand why anyone would bash this type of head. I replaced my Stihl head with one of these and could not be happier. It’s way quicker and easier to load and so far does not bind up like the manual wind head. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@johnw1178 stihl come with this same type of head, its called easyspool
@@terrycruise-zd5tw Thanks, I was not aware that they had this feature. Mine is over 20 years old and did not come with when I purchased it new so I upgraded to the new head. I love Stihl equipment and mine are old but still run excellent. A testimonial to the quality ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have had a speed feed line head for years on my Stihl straight shaft. I love it.
Have you ever had to replace the cap? I've been considering getting one, but I'm concerned about having to constantly replace the cap.
I've had one for several years and agree with Steve 100%. I did some commercial lawn cutting for several years also to where I had to replace my line every two to three weeks, I never once regretted upgrading to a speed loader head.
The speed feed probably works really well with smaller, smooth line. I cut a lot of rough weeds with my Echo 2030T and .105 Echo Diamond line. I often have issues with the line getting hung up or "welding" to itself insided of the head. Been thinking about going back to a two line head with this larger weedeater setup. The line cuts heavy stuff quite well, but the hangups are irritating.
That was a very clear explanation on how to load this head, seems pretty straightforward.
Milwaukee trimmers come with these and they are fantastic as long as the line does not get bound up inside. I think the main problem with acceptance is more that people just don't understand how to load them. Just the fact that you don't have to take it apart to load it is enough to sell it to me.
I installed a Speed-Line 400 on my Stihl FS91. The first issue I had was the installation instructions told me to use the wrong insert fo my brushsaw. I did find the proper instuctions on YT and got it installed. I like the easy loading of the line, but found it seems to spool the line out too much. I'm not sure if there is a problem with my install but like I said the line seems to feed excessively. I also find that using it seemed to lug the engine more than normal, due to the excessive line feeding issue.
I took it back off the unit and reinstalled the Stihl head that came with my brushsaw. It takes longer to reload the line but hey I'm old and can use the extra downtime to refill it...and...I'm not doing this for a living, just cleaning up around my yard (about 3 1/2 Acres).
Cheers from NB
Oh man, this is a game-changer. I can't wait to try this. Thank you!
I have had speed feed heads on my trimmers since day one. I also measure off a couple extra lengths of line and put one in a sandwich bag in my pocket, so if I run out of line I can refill the spool it right where it ran out. No more walking back to the garage to get more line. Speed feed heads are great!
Hey steve i believe the issue is with the speed feed 500 which kept melting the trimmer line. The 400 and 450 had zero issues and was mentioned in the reviews.
Just bought an Echo trimmer and was loading it the old-fashioned way. It sucked. I could see how people that made the same mistake would feel the same way. I realized I had to be missing something and came here. Thanks Steve, I knew you would set me straight!
I have the EGO brand weedeater and the speed feed is awesome. Never fails and I use it commercially. Thanks for the video Steve!
using my speed feed 400 for over 7 years....LOVE IT!!!!!!
Right on
TRULY one of the best things they ever came out with....makes life and the jobs so much easier!! Thx Steve O!!!!
I bought one, and I'll never go back! Best thing ever! I have a bout two acres of lawn which is laid out in such a way, if you look at it from the sky, it looks kinda like a hand, you know, with fingers. At any rate I've got darn near a mile of weed whacking to do, every time I mow. I've got to refill my spool four times to get the job done. The speed head saves me about three quarters of an hour over the conventional head. Get one. Thank Steve later.
I put the speed feed 400 on my DeWalt 20v and the 1 time I have used it so far, it worked great. I bet it lasts way longer than the DeWalt one that was made out of butter & plastic, as that wore away super fast..
Yes, I've been in the stone ages for years and just got myself a Stihl 26-2 head. Best thing I ever did. How could anyone not like these?????
Steve, I saw your video the day it came out. Had one of these in my hands 3 days later. Game Changer! Thank you.
Ive done lawn work for years and I still occasionally have a spool of trimmer line explode on me when I'm reassembling the head. Its time to give one of these things a try.
Steve, you are the man
You make things so easy with your demonstrations and instructions
Thank you .
Well you've sold me on it! I've been considering these for my Stihl because I despise re-spooling the double feed spools that are standard for it. So many steps for them as opposed to this simple process. Next time I am in to town I'll get one to try out. Looks very simple. I love simple because it gets me back too work faster. Thanks for yet another cool demonstration. 😊
Never seen such a critter! Thanks for the heads-up on 'em.
Speed feed is the real deal. I converted when forced to get an equipped trimmer. Stupid me had to take head off and wind. Next time I followed speed feed directions. 👌
My new Echo came with one of those and I changed it to the old type because I was too stupid to learn how it worked. Big mistake! Thanks Steve.
I got one and put it on my trimmer it works great!
I just did this yesterday. When I go trimming, I take a length of string with me in my back pocket. When the head runs out, I'm back up and running in about a minute. With the old style heads that needed to be taken apart, that's at least a 5 minute process.
I had a couple of these that came with the trimmer but for the life of me after spending 2 minutes with them I couldn't figure out how they work so I never got to use them. This video made it look so simple, that the first thing I'm gonna do tomorrow morning is go find them and put some line in them. Awesome.
I have one and it is the cats meow! Good by with removing the head just to add string. Good video review.
I have used this exact speed feed on my echo trimmer for over 2 years and they are the best $40. I ever spent..works great !!!!
I use them on my Stihl FS56RC.
I have a twin cut-line head on my Stihl straight shaft. So you have to cut and feed in the 14" or so pieces, but you have four strings coming out of the head. I love it. I wanted to try this speed head on my other trimmer, but it's a curved shaft Stihl, and I ain't McGyver. Oh well.
Been using one for years, love it. Easier to fill, feeds out line easier (which makes em last longer), and it doesn’t clog up with grass and dirt. What’s not to love?
I've had one on my weedeater for about 4 years. Love it.
I've used one of those for years at work. I liked it so much that I bought one for my Stihl at home. When I first started using one it kept jamming inside the head. I finally figured out I was putting too much string on the spool. I now use about the same amount as you and it works fine.
I put about 7 feet 14 feet of string 7 feet on each side and I don't have any problems out of it. I run into the same problems you did as well when I first started using it I was trying to put in 10 foot on each side which is 20 feet of string in that head just wasn't quite big enough😅
Speed Feed & Steve Endorsed! I've tried a few others! I'm all In! TY!💗
Recently, another famous TH-camr published that Echo has admitted to a problem with the newest 500 speed feed head. But, I have had a Shindaiwa trimmer head that has lasted twenty years without a problem. I sometimes have to straighten the line a little, and I forgot to line up the arrows twice. But I wouldn't change. I just bought an Echo 410 X with speed feed.
For the people who say it's hard to use- you just have to be smarter than the speed feed!
No idea how it could be hard. It takes literally 2 minutes to install new line and get back to work. Saves hours of time per month
Great video. Also, there is an internal piece that I had to flip end for end because my Echo is left handed rotation. There is a L and a R on it.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see Toro listed but I knew it would work as I had one a few years ago.
The right adapters came with the head. It has worked flawlessly.
Thanks I was only using one arm length I'm going to increase it now. When I first got it I tried to wind it like a regular head. It was he##. It's a breeze now that I read the directions. The directions are super crazy to read . Don't know who writes them. They went around their elbows to get to their butt if ya know what I mean, Luv the new bump feed loading now. Thanks for the tutorials most helpful.
I have a Stihl FS 45 FrankenTrimmer (FS 45 powerhead with an FS 55 shaft/gearbox). I use the Echo SpeedFeed 400 on it and it's awesome and so easy to refill the line. I just had to refill the line on mine. The only reason it took me over 20 minutes was because I had to look for the line and it was right in front of my face! My cousin has the regular FS 45 curved shaft trimmer and he went with the AutoCut C 6-2 (since the SpeedFeed doesn't go on Stihl curved shaft trimmers) for it since it's almost the same and it too is rather easy to spool line back in.
I agree with your view on line heads...however...each year, on Amazon, for around 15 bucks I buy a complete head with bicycle chain lines; no adjustment, doesn't break or wear out when you hit rock walls etc. With rough treatment the two chain loops will break apart at the extreme end of each and then you are left with 4 chain lines (even better).
Thanks so much for this video. Just picked up my first weed eater in 30 years and have to say I was a little intimadated by this style head. I'm glad it's so simple and thanks for all the info.
Big fan after I bought a Shindawa trimmer back in the 90's the dealer had them in early 00's or late 90's
I just put one of those on my echo trimmer a year ago and it's by far the best trimmer head I've ever had.
I have one on my Husqvarna trimmer and it is by far the best trimmer head ever. Very easy to use. Thanks for the video Steve.
I really like my Shindawa line trimmer with the speed head but I love your informative videos. Keep up the great work Steve.
Great video, love your sense of humor…as a very handy person myself I often have to refute people criticism towards machines and technology
I was in the shop picking up parts for the old style line head
stihl rep was there and says you should try this I said ok stihl has a speed feed line head that is thread off thread on
wow simple no more lost parts !!!!
After some research & deliberation... I just purchased a speedfeed 400 for an older Stihl FS110. IT'S FANTASTIC... $32 & no regrets.
Might that fit the fs38 you think?
@@mattwaters6987 pretty sure they make one for a curved trimmer
I’ve had a speed feed on my Echo and a Milwaukee,,and they’re both easy to load. That the entire head bumps is obvious to me!
I haven't used a line head since self feeding line heads were a new thing. and we didn't have one. had to stop, pull the flange on the line head and let out more line.
I like the speed feed line head! You may have saved me some time next reload of line as I was not lining up to see through and I took apart to refill. Thanks for the video and cheers to your channel
I started cracking up when he said exactly.I loved the way he did that.Excellent as always loved this man
This is very similar to my older ryobi ez reel. Easy to use. Funny you mentioned the stihl curved shaft. Takes 4 times as long to spool. Fortunately, I don't own the stihl.
Just got a Shindaiwa trimmer that came with a SF400. Amazing. Liked it so much I bought one for my smaller Echo trimmer!
Good choice!
I've had one for about 10 years at least, when this one finally gives out I'll have Speed Feed number 2. 🙂👍
Well, the one in the link did not fit the shaft of my 80v Kobalt. I’m really hoping they have one that will. I may just put this one on the shelf in the garage and buy a trimmer in the list of trimmers this head fits. It’s a great design.
not sure if i agree but, i may try one after this head on my echo srm2400sb wears out which i have had since the 90's. i put a bolt and fender washer through the bump knob so it wouldn't wear out so fast and this one has lasted for more than 5 years and i use it a lot at home and church.
Hi Steve, I just want to say first of all I always enjoy your videos mostly because I can learn so much from you. I also enjoy your very casual method of explaining things and still getting your point across so succinctly. In particular, with this video, concerning a speed feed line head where folks might actually think that speed feed heads "suck". I do not personally have one on my old Toro trimmer but I can see the incredible benefit for having that easy way to add new line. It has always looked like a great way to go. I still like my Toro model 51950 for the performance I get from it as a weed trimmer but the trimmer head on it has little to be desired anymore. This is because I know such heads as those you mention in this video exist. I have asked another TH-camr if they thought there was a speed feed head that would fit my old trimmer but the answer was not conclusive enough for me. So I wish to ask if you know for certain if there is a speed feed head that would fit my Toro model 51950 trimmer? It is also a curved shaft which I thought I should mention. Thanks for your videos and any help you can give me on this! Also, keep up your great content I always enjoy it.
I use an Echo Speedfeed 450 on a Stihl FR131T backpack brushcutter. A perfect match 👍
Do I agree? Totally. I have them not only on my Echo PAS-2620 but also my Honda HHT25 straight shaft trimmer.
I have the earlier head on my echo and it works similarly but you line it up and put the ends of the line in wind it up until the whole thing is on then cut the middle. No need to find the middle of the line. The only downside is your limited to .095 line. I plan to get a speed feed once I use up my .095 so I can get .105 black diamond.
Thanks Steve, I had no idea you could do it that way. I've been taking it apart and winding it the hard way.
I have a stihl curved shaft fs38, but I have a autocut c-6-2 head on it, which is the same idea. Saved me so much time. Speed heads are a brilliant idea, though there's been issues with the new 500 head melting line.
Echo Speed Feed 400 is great
I put it on my Sthill several years back and never looked back.
LOVE the speed feed!!! SOOOO simple to use!
Once again this is exactly the video I needed to see exactly when I needed to see it. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I’m glad I saw this it made my refilling the spool so much easier
My arrow doesn't line up right over the hole but it still works like a champ. I also bulletproofed mine. Will definitely get another when ready
By far the best head out there. I switch all my stuff over about 8 years ago and I'll never go back. Thanks for the videos!!
I love those. I have some cheap copies too, but the real echos take .130 square line.
Steve, does it explain how you use those extra parts and which machine takes which parts?
They the best. I love ‘em. Saves a ton of time. I’m from Honduras and in my town I’m the only one that uses it. I enjoy your videos and they are very educational.
Just ordered one, I can't wait to try it!
An excellent trimmer head but after about a couple of years, it was failing to feed. I needed to take it apart and just clean it. I also used a little dry silicone lube. Works like new.
Thanks Steve, I love speed feed heads. I bought a 400 when I needed to replace the head on my first little Maruyama 23cc black trimmer. But I learned the hard way you can put the spool in upside down and that can be very frustrating. Lol Reading the instructions help. Thanks for the content. WB
You are absolutely correct once again Steve! I’ve used one for 2 years now and it’s easy peasy! Love it!
Love my Echo speed feeder on my Stihl. Will never use the old bump head again.
Had a lot of difficulties getting one of these here in the UK and had to buy the adapters separately at quite n expense but well worth it, makes the whole thing a lot easier
I have this type of head on my Stihl gas trimmer and my Milwaukee battery trimmer. Super easy to reload.
Thank you yet again you have given me the confidence to fix my mowers and chainsaws numerous times big respect to you mate, Cheers 🇦🇺
Thanks Steve, I have one of those and I'm one of those who couldn't figure out how it's done. Video is a huge help.
Agreed. I'm a professional landscaper, and these are a necessity! Saves so much time and fiddling!
Perfect Timing on that Video! 👍Definitely getting one of these!
Echo SpeedFeed heads are the best things for pros ever. Came with my echo, about to install on my other unit too
Great video,thanks Steve.
I have the speed line on my Echo trimmer. Love it ,easy to use. Definitely a time saver.👍
Great post, Steve! I wish I saw this a year ago! Thanks!
Your demonstration is perfectly right on The greatest invention.
Have a speed feed for years now, its great!!
I have this on my weed eater, didn’t know what it’s called, but it is very easy to refill. I love it!
First time I am hearing of this. Thanks for the tip, Stevo. I have a Cub Cadet straight gas trimmer with the typical pain-in-the-ass trimmer head, so I am ordering one.
That’s awesome! I have a Kobalt cordless with a similar style head as that but it has a bump knob you have to wind and you can barely get a hold of it. I’m gonna pick this speed feed head up and install it.
I have a hyper tough that the speed feed will not fit. It was a bummer too. Ive wanted to try the speed feed
Ego has one built in on some of their models. I bought one this spring and it is super easy to reload. The only con I have with it is, the battery runs out before all my trim work is done. But, I’m retired and have plenty of time. So I just do part of the trimming before I mow and finish it up afterwards. Letting the battery recharge while I’m mowing.
Or you could purchase a spare battery. I'm retired also but not wasting my time....because that you cannot purchase...
