    This is the only tutorial I've seen that gives you a relatively easy way to get to the bolts on the pan that are blocked by the exhaust without having to remove or loosen it so thank you very much... btw if you changed the title of the tutorial to something like "change transmission fluid Jeep jk without removing the exhaust" or some variation of that i think the video would have a ton more views... just saying thanks again

    I measure and add an extra 3-4 ounces to make up for “stick around” amount. Make sure you empty filter in there too. Suck out as much as possible through the dipstick first. They sell manual vacuum pumps on Amazon for like $15-20 that hold a quart of fluid, suck out and empty into a container, so when you take the pan off, minimal spill.

    I remember when working on Jeeps were simple. Since Fiat took over working on these cars, yes cars Jeeps these days aren't built for off road or repairs. You need alot of tools to repair. Jeeps used to be built for repairs on the trail. Absolutely garbage anymore.

      Actually, the newer Jk and JL wrangler’s are more capable than the generations of the past ever were. Of course they are more sophisticated today and not so diy friendly but that doesn’t mean they are not built good.

      @@Motorcarnut as a lover of old CJs and Current owner of 2020 Roxor the wranglers of today are not built to handle everything that's thrown at them. I've been working on Brother inlaws 2012 and hate how complicated it has become. They are more mall crawlers than what older jeeps were made to do off the showroom floor. You have to spend a fortune to bring it up to par. Yes new jeeps ride better and ride better on freeway but that takes away from the off road side. New jeeps can't follow my 2020 Roxor without modifications( Roxor) more jeep than wranglers

      @@Motorcarnut modern Jeeps of today after the first wrangler model are built for the road not off road. The driveshafts design is built for speed not flexibility. The older design is built for flexibility. As soon as u lift a wrangler it put extra wear on the boot design and burns away the boot. Too many mall crawlers than true off road jeeps anymore. Putting carpet and fancy stereos in wranglers says what they are built for.

      Just jack up on a solid piece of aluminum part of the transmission far enough to reach the bolts and you will be fine.

    Sorry man, asking so many questions, just trying to gather all the info before tackling this soon. What about the transfer case fluid? Do you have a video on that and recommend it? I know there is a drain plug and fill plug and i guess just fill it till it start spilling out the drain hole,, close it up and fill the rest of the fluid after reinstalling the pan through the dipstick?

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good idea to replace the transfer case fluid as well. Just make sure you can get the fill nut out before draning or else you will have a problem. On the transmission, just make sure its at the proper level hot before doing anything, then when you drain the old fluid count how many quarts you took out and put the exact amount back in, That will leave you just about full.

  • @tyl812
    @tyl812 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah, use the rubber black gasket... don't use permatex.... Just use gasket tack to hold the gasket onto the pan...putting the pan on without a gasket is a huge mistake.... The gasket is there for reason.... permatex makes gasket tack.

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not true, gasket maker is used on almost all surfaces nowadays. If done right they never leak. Rubber gaskets distort, tear and come loose. Older vehicles may come with the older gasket technology same with cork gaskets.

  • @BenedictHudson
    @BenedictHudson ปีที่แล้ว

    What should you do if you find larger shards of metal in the pan? Fill it up again and hope for the best?

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the cheapest and easiest way. I wouldn’t trust the vehicle on long trips. Driving around town for a while and see if it’s ok before longer trips.
