Honestly you are pretty wrong here. Yes people wont pick fights with police, but plenty of us dont exactly respect them. Police here in Sweden have many of the same issues as US police. They still act like complete asses with a power fetish and they still racially profile people. They make use of propaganda as well. To think only criminals dislike the police is a MASSIVE simplification. Yes the police is necessary for crime, blah blah blah, but that doesnt mean the police system isnt rife with issues. I can respect individual police officers, but the whole system? hell no.

I suffered from a brain hemorrhage in 2014. I was in intensive care for ten days. Thanks to our tax system in Sweden it costed me about 8 dollars a night. I asked a nurse how much it costed to have me there for ten days. She told me that 24 hours i ICU costed around 10 000 dollars.

I had my first kid when I was making very little and my wife had no job yet thanks to so much being free and getting money for having kids we managed. I don’t know how it would have went in another country with how little income we had.
People tend to have more kids the worse off they are ..altso has to do with birth control and religion.Two kids are normal here on average,but many have 3,4 or none at all.
Sweden is Social Liberal. The individual has the ultimate responsibility for his life. But when things go a little wrong in life, there is a safety net. To this safety net we pay taxes. Very high taxes. But it's worth it. The problem today is that we have far too many who stand outside the system and take advantage of this. Then we start to have problems, when fewer and fewer have to provide for more and more!
Sweden has a tradition of taking care of its citizens and that has to do with people's mindsets, which are very different from the American way of thinking. Industrial villages (so called brukssamhällen) away from the big towns, where workers were better paid and well protected, had to care for their employees in terms of social activities, education, health care etc in a way that strengthened the togetherness in the society. Volunteers took care of the fire rescue, others joined the local defense force (hemvärnet), all of which made people care about one another, yet above all this there was democratically elected governments that watched over its citizens, perhaps too much in its ambition to create a "perfect" society.
For this system to work everyone need to work and pay tax. As less people work in Sweden these benefits will soon be gone or get at price tag unfortunately as many people believe that it is free. It is not, someone else is paying.
You can not come to Sweden as an American and study for free. I found an article from 2017 that says that a non-EU foreign student pays on average 123 000 SEK per year to study here.

One thing I appreciate as a swede is that we don't get to extreme politically. Even though I lean to the left I can still get behind some of the right's politics. Like this week when the yearly budget was released, I was against most of it, but it was nothing like in the US, where abortions are banned from week six, and democracy is in jeopardy if one of the parties win. It was the usual thing, where the richest get a tax break, and that's what the swedish rightwingers do when they get in power. Elderly people have worse dental health than people 18-35. They are also more prone to illness caused by bad teeth due to a weaker immune system. There’s absolutely no logic to why those with best teeth should pay less than those with bad.

The police issue is better in Sweden, but its by no means perfect whatsoever. Police is still racist here. Racial minorities, especially Arab and African people, get profiled to hell and back. Police may not be able to physically harm them as easily as in the US, but they still suffer the unfair amount of arrests and prosecution. Also, some officers are just major dicks for no reason. Ive literally done fully legal things like riding an electric scooter slowly near my city center, in the bike lane, but got stopped by a police woman who was very confrontational for no reason. Mind you, I in no way look threatening. Im Swedish (rules out profiling in this case) and a woman. I was wearing a tote with my universities medical school logo. I was nothing but friendly and apologetic (to make her leave me alone, still dont know what she was even mad about). We don't get anything - we pay tax AND people with many children "get" much more then they pay for because people without children also pay tax for their children. We pay for ALL with our tax: as roads, schools, school food, and so on. Wote for someone in your own country who'll take tax and you get the same.

Swedish police officers are not the sharpest tool in the shed, mostly because the low salary doesnt attract societies best individuals. That said they have a 2 year education compared to a few weeks in the US, so off course they are better than that. I just wished they focused more on mental strength than physical strength.

The double money back if the meat goes off is a store-specific policy. It is not a law. The cost for traveling to healthcare if you don't have your own car or walk or take a bike is dependent on the region but you could call it "basically free". Here it is 200 SEK and there is a fee gap. I'm disabled and cannot go by bus so I get to go by taxi. I love the Swedish system and considering the personal ties I've had with Americans and just general empathy I have been distraught about what has happened. For example a nurse getting severely ill. She has health insurance through her job. Well. She gets really ill. The health insurance pay for the first thing. Then she doesn't have a job anymore. No health insurance. No real social services. She couldn't afford to go to the doctor and could afford the medicines. She had high-risk brain surgery (without insurance... I don't know how it got dealt with). Drove across several state lines to get to a big open place where they offer medical for people for free. (Bless them!). Had her perfect teeth all pulled out because of an infection. Had a serious illness that was so rare doctors hadn't seen it before in person. Was offered to be taken care of for basically free at a Hospital several states away. But she had to still pay a kind of copay she had no chance of paying for. I decided to go in there and pay for that part so she and her brother, who was taking care of her, would be able to go. Which made her not die. And that is one instance. Yeah. I've cried and felt so bad for people. And for strangers how people are treated like they are garbage. Society needs to fix that. Private donations just go so far. It should be part of the social contract in my view. If it is going to be a dog eat dog world you will see that desperation and behavior that is flowing through such a system.

Highest marginal tax for 2024 is ca 52% and before that roughly around 57%.
