@@TheLinguistsLibrary I think Scott is right that Australian writers don't get enough attention in the rest of the Anglophone world. Their books often don't get distributed in the UK whereas we are dominated by US authors.
I’ve not read Bass Rock yet but I was really impressed by her first two, especially After the Fire which I loved a lot! There’s a tremendous atmosphere sustained in those first two and a terrific sense of place too. Your discussion of the difficult balancing act with the stolen generations aspect was really interesting and I’m glad you think she got it right. On that topic have you ever seen the film Rabbit-proof Fence?
@@ianp9086 yes and read the book by Doris Pilkington Garimara that inspired it. It just so happens that the character played by Kenneth Branagh in the film is based on my sister-in-law's great uncle.
Yes--thank you for seeing that not including the greater context of evil is not necessarily an overstep of identity capture/appropriation. It can be done! Bass Rock staring at me from the shelf...
This one sounds brilliant! You had me at "matter of fact ghost like from the movie Ghost" 😅😅. I'm bumping this one to the top of my list ❤️❤️❤️.
@@TooManyHeathers it's a good one.
I’ve just listened to this and the narration is really good 😊
@@julieatherton3217 that's good to know. Audio can be hard with multiple viewpoints.
I really must read more Australian authors, I think the only one I read this year was Markus Zusak. Thanks for the rec Ros

@@MargaretPinard she handled it well I think.
I am intrigued. I have not read anything by her, although I do have Bass Rock.
