What else would it be if not 8-bit? 8-bit is the smallest number of bits available, all games consoles and computers of the time used 8-bit technology. When the Motorola 68000 came in, things developed, but that's around the mid-eighties. Wasn't till the Megadrive that a games console used it.
@newcoleco i think you saw my "humble" approach on developing ColecoVision stuff with Boriel ZX-Basic Compiler? googling for "colecovision boriel atariage" you might find a thread i posted at atariage forum about this - for now, the idea is having libraries for that (specially in assembly), whatever it calls bios or not - be welcome letting me know what you think about! :) thanks!
