Got the news today that Mr. Lynch has left the building. Just wanted to drop by to express my gratitude for his life of visionary art and his passionate devotion to the mission of sharing meditation with the world. And thank you to my old chum Chris Busch for organizing the Filmosophers podcast and giving me the opportunity to co-host this interview. Stab it and steer!
@DeanSluyter01 I hadn't happened upon the expression 'left the building' before. I appreciate it. I do know of 'the man upstairs' and 'the man downstairs', however.
The David Lynch Foundation hosted a streaming memorial via youtube and facebook. The recording of that is available via /@DrTonyNader/streams on youtube
Clicked to hear philosophies on filmmaking from the greatest hair in the business. Within three minutes, I'm making mental notes on "the perfect chocolate milkshake"
"I went into the dumpsters behind Bob's"....well that didn't trigger any horrible images for me (a combination of BOB and the thing behind Winkies). Thanks for this, always great to hear David interviewed.
Thanks so much for this conversation, I watch a lot of Lynch interviews on youtube and it's always nice to spot one where the interviewers do some actual research and ask questions that haven't been asked a million times!
Speaking of bats. I, with my family (wife and two son's - pre teen) visited Carlsbad Cavern and stayed to watch the bats (200,000) fly out of the cavern into the night. We were able to smell them well before we could see them. The scent was an amazingly pleasant, musky smell. Took around 20 minutes for the majority to spiral up into the surrounding area. This was in the summer. A moonless night (well before the horizontal oil boom). I took some remote roads (all of the roads in this part of Texas (Loving County) are remote) and we stopped to look at the stars. I have never before, or since, had a better view of the Milky Way. Just a glowing stripe across the sky, with a few bright stars you could actually pick out. My both sons wanted to become Astrophysicist for quite a few years after. I hope you enjoy reading this as I had remembering it.
Yes, I too was there, amazing when from time to time a bat even flies about 2 feet over your head, feeling the air flow from the wings, I guess it's in New Mexico (near Texas border) The cavern itself is also amazing, walking down (not with the lift) I made a lot of amazing photographs.
I imagine Bob's is a BigBoy restaurant and I remember them under a lot of different names, like Elby's , Manners, Frisch's, and a million others. After a gig, my band would go into the local (Steubenville, OH) Elby's BigBoy and always get a hot-fudge ice cream cake. I can't remember if they were 24 hours but they had to be open really late because some of the gigs would go until 1 or 2 AM. It was a very Lynchian experience in those days to be among the milieu who would still be around at that time hanging out at a BigBoy's.
"DAVID LYNCH" ...A CREATIVE LEGEND In FILM -MAKING...Making Use Of The TECHNOLOGY Of CONSCIOUSNESS In The "FILM-MAKING"......Founder Of The "DAVID LYNCH FOUNDATION".......
Amazing interview, amazing director. David should make a movie about meditation but I doubt it would be necessarily dark ;) . He is certainly fired up about.
a part of my soul is leaving today. imprinted in the depths of my spirit, your masterly work will shine 4 eternity... when cinema was still an art form, U only made original masterpieces exploring the depths of our humanity. Your unfinished version of Dune will be 4 me the most perfect despite its innumerable flaws. the most beautiful of paradoxes 🖤 🛸 🌠 👽 bon voyage 2 U Mr LYNCH towards the stars 👽
The Clone Returns Home may interest David, Chris an Dean, a masterpiece that also has that beautiful feeling of comfort and mystery especially the Japanese countryside.
Dean here, one of the interviewers. What you're asking about is "Jai Guru Dev," an expression from Vedic (Indian) spiritual tradition that sort of defies translation, but literally means "Victory, luminous teacher." It's an affirmation of the element of enlightenment in our lives and gratitude to the teachers that help us find it. In the TM movement that David was so devoted to, it's sort of the standard blessing/signoff. And now that he has signed off from this planet, Jai Guru Dev, Mr. Lynch.
Wonderful interview. Great work Chris and Dean. Two questions you didn't ask, but I might suggest you ask next time you talk to David Lynch: 1) Is David going to make a film about the life of Maharishi? I heard he was considering it at one point. 2) Would he consider moving to Fairfield and making this his home, or home base?
Thanks Alexander. I think the Maharishi project must be on hold. Pretty sure there's no way David will leave his artist complex/home in the Hollywood Hills.
The perfect milkshake is made with only ice cream and milk. The perfect ice cream is made with only cream, eggs and sugar. Malt syrop can be used in place of the sugar to create a 'chocolate malt', or malted. Like making beer the most important element is maintaining a constant temperature to ensure the thickness or consistency. I wish I had the chance to sell one to a guy that cared that much about milkshakes, but never looked at the ingredients and kept buying subpar milkshakes for seven years.
@oliverclothezoff3361 Yes, just when you've tried everything to get yer pesky, lovable kiddies to sleep!! Nothing is working, it's past midnight and you're at your wit's end? Then in comes grandpa dave with his second to none self absorbed pretentious waffle and the kids are out for the counts and dreaming in no time!!1 !!
It's presentation is scam-like and it requires thousands annual if you want to practice in a official center. If it was influential it wouldn't require this trade-off.

What a kind man he was
I love this man so much. The world already feels irrevocably dimmer without him. RIP David Lynch ❤
I haven't cried since I heard the news but hearing his voice again made me burst into tears 😭😭😭
Why?
@@garrybaldy327 You seem like the kind of person with a framed photo of your Reddit karma.
@@garrybaldy327 His being gone from this world makes me understand what loss is.

I filmed david climbing in the,,, pulling himself up teetering then it went fine 😉✨🛸🌌.
Yeah David Lynch does it and he's an artistic genius. I do it and they call me a crazy homeless guy
I hope I never see that ingredient list-ever-outside of a dream.
@@69Jackjones69 you the guy in the alley behind the diner in Mullholland Drive?
Him angrily recalling that they only got the shake right 3 times ☠️
how can this video have 32K views and less than 1K likes? Lynch is superb always, one of the best people to ever walk the earth.
😊
Rest in peace Mr Lynch. I came here to watch your last interview. What I first saw of you was Dune when it came out. I have been hooked ever since.

Yup...it's a story for the ages
42:00 he is thrilled talking about meditation. Fantastic how this topic turns him on …. such a lovely wise soul.
Living legend in its truest form. Long live David Lynch!! He is such an inspiration.
There are things I love as much as I love David Lynch, but nothing I love more.

The monster was just a metaphor for the awful milkshake ingredients.
@adamlane6453 I absolutely love this interpretation 😂
I feel blessed to have been on this planet at the same time as this immense, unique Artist. Rest in peace, Maestro.
I really love listening to him, he makes me smile.
We agree!
Exactly
I love David Lynch! His expressions are so simple and to the point and he has such passion about everything!
Let that be a lesson for us all!
A joy to listen to David.

Thanks Bram, we are big Lynch fans too
Lynch getting momentarily occupied with the “beautiful” sound of the presenter clearing his throat is so funny and endearing.
Beautiful interview, fantastic David Lynch and all the question on point
I love David Lynch's work. His vision is unique, twisted and interesting. :-D
“So you see, there's this beautiful world and you just look a little bit closer and it's all red ants." - David Lynch
Amazing, even the mess on his table looks like a piece of art. Mastermind, everything is in harmony.
He’s an enlightened master. Ascended. 🙏🏼

I love David Lynch!
Great interview! I love hearing Lynch talk about other filmmakers. Lynch is endlessly fascinating. Thanks for this guys.
Thanks for watching
I just stumbled across this. This was an amazing interview from you both. David Lynch was one of the few directors that resonated with me growing up.
David Lynch has made some of the most disturbing films ever, yet the man himself is adorable.
Ah, but the films are more heartfelt than you think
There is always some kind of hope in his films
I Like how mr Linch observe life...
Thanks for watching the episode Maria. David does have such a unique way of observing and expressing himself. A great guy.
Brilliant interview !
It's just awesome
Thank you

Does anyone remember The Elephant Man here? Seems to have vanished from people minds. What a Film.
I am a human being.
Correction- Kubriks favorite film ever was Eraserhead, not the whole “oh Kubriks one of your favorites. Lynch was Kubriks favorite.
He had mentioned really loving Stanley's films though

The Bob's shake story is pretty conclusive.
I need a milkshake NOW, get an organic chocolate ice cream and make a shake with it

The Bob’s Big Boy milkshakes brought me here.
At the end they mentioned a name but I am not familiar with it. Does anyone know what they said, kinda sounded like jay garadev?

You may know a variant from the lyrics to the Beatles' "Across the Universe":
"Jai guru deva, ohm

When was this recorded?
Early 2021 I believe
Lynch should work with David Byrne to make a musical!
my god, he remembers much more from Rear Windom than me. The thing is he probably saw it like 30 or 50 years ago and I only 5 yrs ago. sick

someone is going to ask something other than the same five questions
that Lynch has been asked for the past 30 years \🙄/
The reason most people don’t get into transcendental meditation is because they can’t afford it or don’t know how to access it.
Let's be real, any spiritual practice that requires cash payment is bunk.
It's presentation is scam-like and it requires thousands annual if you want to practice in a official center. If it was influential it wouldn't require this trade-off.
