My sleep doctor has repeated over and over that I shouldn't change settings on my own. Thinking about it, I realize that, with some knowledge and intelligence, one can certainly do it, and should. I don't need to make an appointment for every change. I can understand the caution, but the care has been really simple, so far. Thanks for liberation me from endless unnecessary appointments.

I received a replacement CPAP from Philips, it was set to 4! I called their customer service. After being on hold for 45 minutes, I asked how to get my old settings onto the new machine. They were no help. My doctor is an hour away. Then I thought maybe if I googled it....and I found your video. It's now set. Thank you!

I just received a replacement for my old, recalled CPAP machine. Like others have stated, mine was set to 4.0 and my old machine was set to 10.5. After a 15 second search on TH-cam, I found your video and voila, the adjustment was made to the correct pressure!
    Thanks a bunch!!👍🏼

I can’t thank you enough. My daughters C-pap got fried during the big storm hawaii recently had. The sleep center (due to the recall) can’t estimate it’s replacement. She almost literally died because of no machine. So I got ones on my own and thanks to you was able to program it! Can’t thank you enough! Mahalo nui loa!!

Oh, don’t worry. When he starts waking up with headaches and tired like he didn’t get much sleep, I’m pretty sure he will be bumping it back up!!! I mean, there is probably a reason that you feel like a balloon. Maybe, I t’s because the machine is literally keeping your airway open so that you can breathe while you’re asleep!!! Without that, you ain’t breathing like you should and therefore you’re not benefiting from the machine. But, what do I know??? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Anyways… HAPPY APNEA DREAMS, Dr. JHK!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for an informative video that solved my problem. While a sleep study can be a good thing, its a complete scam IMO that CPAPs are not available without a prescription. We should certainly be able to adjust these on our own without feeling like criminals. Our docs adjusts it based on what we tell them, so we might as well cut out the middle man and save a bunch of time, money and grief.

We are glad the video was of help to you. We do always advise patient to confirm with your primary care physician if the changes you made are working well for your therapy. To avoid under or over treatment. Too little pressure will cause apneas to go untreated, where as too much pressure can cause issues with exhalation and retaining your CO2 levels.

My machine replacement finally came in after 2 years. It was not programmed, so I'll look at my settigs from the old one and set the new one like it. My letter says I don't need to return old one, so I have a back up one now. VA says they can program it remotely, but no modem came with my original one.

My CPAP had gotten to where it was more whispering than blowing and the lights were very dim, then bright, etc., and a new one requires a sleep study, script, etc., plus around $1,000. So I'm trying this. I must say that the instructions in the video are perfect for finding your way around on the machine. As for how my machine will respond....don't know yet but I do know that the instructions were just great. Thank you.

Been trying to get my doctor to lower the high pressure setting. It would ramp up in the middle of the night and wake me up blowing out my mask. So I would turn it off so it would start again at 4. But then it seemed to ramp up quicker. Doc was reluctant and set it one lower, not enough. Thanks to you I can adjust it to my comfort level. Thanks for giving me a long night's sleep! I love my dream station. I tried the recall replacement and sent it back. It's a terrible, terrible design. I ordered a replacement foam chamber from Amazon and changed it myself. I'm good to go now.

This was such a help. As we get older, our lungs get less elastic. Old Pressure was prescribed 14 years ago.(11)
With a pulse oximeter....and checking it during the night, I can safely turn old pressure setting up, one click at a time, until I don't wake up , with my heart beating too fast, because of lack of oxygen.
Now, I can change my setting.
I do believe you should have a sleep apnea test......... to begin with.
I do have a friend, who will not wear her CPAP.... it's set too high............
Don't give up hope............I cried tears, the first 3 nights of CPAP. Then the 4th night... I had the best sleep of my life. I no longer felt so sleepy during the day, I was falling asleep, tired, and couldn't drive anywhere, without falling asleep and can't keep eyes open.
Then I got energy and lost 30 lbs!!!
Now I love it, and I can not sleep without a CPAP.

Thank you, this was a lifesaver. My new Dr. said he was going to request that respironics remove a setting my previous Dr. had set. They instead turned my lower setting to almost nothing. My machine was blasting me at the high setting then dropping to nothing with every breath. I couldn't sleep. To make this even better they did this on a Friday night when there's no way I can call the doctor and ask them to have it changed again.
Mine must be an older unit because a lot of the settings in this video are not on there but I was able to set the lower setting back up. Much more comfortable.
Edited to remove the actual numbers. You type stupid things when you're tired and can't think.

I have had NO ONE checking on my machine, my compliance, how it is working, etc. I told my MD my mask (FitLife) was ending up leaking and the pressure was going too high because if it, next thing I knew, I was swallowing air all night and waking up with a belly full of air...she said I needed another sleep study when I suggested someone to check the pressure settings. NO, I don't need another sleep study, I need the top pressure to be lowered so I'm not swallowing air when my mask invariably leaks. (I am a side sleeper, it gets moved, whatever) Thank you! I brought the top pressure down and hopefully down far enough so that I am not getting a belly full of air every night anymore. Thank you!

Man what a helpful video my cpap would for some reason keep going to 16 or 18 b4 I fell asleep even b4 the 45 min time. I would have to tighten the strap so tight it was
uncomfortable literally pulling it off my face. Thanks for the info.

Great video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Franaar Painless Smile Formula (google it)? It is a good one of a kind product for crushing your snoring or sleep apnea problem minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my close friend Aubrey at very last got cool results with it.

I lost my " preheat" icon completely! It vanished! I went into therapy and re-established my humidification ( humidifier is NOT HEATING at all, (even though when therapy is on, I still have humid setting in lower right, on the screen that shows my pressure in big circle) so I clicked in " comfort" what I had before from my DME, so what do I click to RESET THESE NEW SETTINGS? ? I don't have heated tube. THX! Update: My son (software developer) restored the "preheat" by going in "advanced settings" , I took the modem out the other day(day before humid stopped heating) to show him the chip, and put it back in... he said maybe doing that reset to default/not advanced setting since some machines don't have the preheat humidifier , wish me luck, what a great service you are doing!

My replacement machine came with the settings my doctor wanted and I had no issues for 8 months when it died. I got a new one and it died 9 months later. The third one made it 8 months. I am on the 4th one now and it only needs to last until February when I can get a Resmed machine. I hated the design of this one from day 1. My doctor said she never thought this one would be sent as a replacement because of the issues associated with it. Thanks for the video help. DS 2 is crap . Should have kept DS 1

I was very surprised that sometimes the correct adjustment is down! They set my initial pressure off of data to 12.5 psi and my AHI numbers were around 8 to 10. I lowered my pressure to 10 psi and my AHI numbers reduced to around 5. Then I further reduced it to 9 psi and my AHI numbers now bounce between 1 and 2...

Do you know if there is a way to change the breathing rate? It seems when I exhale there is like a 2-3 (sometimes) longer delay to when the machine forces air into the tube. That delay is causing me to still have apnea events (i stop breathing) Shouldn't it breathe with me and not against my timing ? Does that make sense? I have severe apnea ( around 75) so I'm basically having an event every time I exhale and if the machine waits a few seconds it's basically not helping.. thanks!

    • @RespShop
      @RespShop  ปีที่แล้ว

Just ensure the BIPAP is safe to use due to the recall. Also we recommend a Doctor to initially set the machine up as they will ensure the therapy pressures are what your dad will need. Remember too much pressure may cause increase levels of CO2 and not enough may cause untreated apneas to occur.
