The one thing that was nice about the super slow hover was when you needed to cross a large map,. Get up high, aim towards your destination and hit auto run. Then you had time to go take a leak and or grab a snack. 👍😄
Rebirth is alright but not an Officially licensed server like HomeComing is now and Rebirth is not very stable last I was on it and less then a 3rd of the players as HomeComing. I've been playing City of Heroes since 2004 and HomeComing is so much better then the game was at the end of 2012 its amazing. Excelsior is the most active server in game across all servers!
NCSoft has no interest in shutting down any of the servers. The "official" license ordeal was a handwave to appease those who were worried. The license doesn't make the server any different. Population is different as well, but it also depends on when you play. From about 6PM CST on, there's almost always something going on. TFs, teaming, etc. And there are scheduled iTrials every weeknight, and during the day on weekends. Not to mention we often get 50 or more players every Saturday for the double Rikti raid at 1:00PM CST. Also, I have been playing on Rebirth for over 5 years, and I can tell you that the game is very stable and runs beautifully. As far as Homecoming differences, there are a lot of QoL changes. There are aspects that make much of the "premium" things from live available for all at the start, which is fine if you like that. There's also ways to get certain things much more easily such as temps, travel powers, and such. And yes, it is a far cry from what the original devs did, since things like Veteran rewards and the purchaseable items are all available at the start. It's not necessarily "easier" to play there. But a person who knows what they're doing can level faster and easier there, as well as get sets and such much faster and with less effort. Rebirth originally started as trying to keep things as close to the original. And some of the devs have been in contact with some of the old devs, and have tried to steer new content towards the visions of what the original game runners were hoping for. So, the main difference between the two is the feel of it. It just depends on what you want.
