- I've been known to vocally express how I dislike the new school "taekwondo" sparring. The sensors on the body protectors allow fighters to become lazy fighters because all they need to do is give the protector a good tap. Doesn't even matter if its a real kick or not.
So I set out to bring the old school TKD back to the best of my ability. Taekwondo used to be a fast paced, hard kicking martial arts.

I practiced TaeKwonDo back in the early 1970s when it was considered a martial art, for self-defense and such. Since the Korean government abandoned the ITF in favor of the WTF, TaeKwonDo has become an olympic sport. Nothing wrong with sports, but my perception is that sports largely overshadows the martial art aspect of TKD. This is why there is controversy even to this day.

Yes its from Spin Kick (Deollyo Chagi)
What was kick @1:06 ? It looks like a tornado kick, only backwards. I snapped an ACL with a tornado kick decades ago. I notice there is very little Kwon (fist) or hand strikes in this. I know kicks keep you further from you opponent (at 6'3" that was always an advantage for me) but there are many times the "combatants" are within fist striking distance and rarely use any punches.
That’s called a 540 hook kick or some people call it cheat 720. In the Olympic style TKD or WTF style, mostly kicks are used to attack the target. Punches are only allowed to the body and even then, those are rarely performed.
