For a change, once they dropped the 'act', it sounded like their real voices were actually Caribbean, rather than Indian. Although, it was hard to tell they weren't Indian when they were putting on the terrible fake American accents at the start.

I mean, right? Like, if you're stealing someone's money, don't you have to pose as if you have good intentions? Even if the real FBI/Microsoft/etc called, they'd know to be kind and polite, especially with old people or people who don't know what they're doing.
Even basic manupulation requires you to attain some sort of connection to the victim, ("connection" i.e. favourite sports team, car brand, etc.) make the victim feel like you're down-to-earth with them as they are with you.
And these doofuses don't know how to do any of that.
(I'm familiar with how real customer support works, in case you're wondering, I don't scam people, just that explaining tech to people is a weirdly hard skill to acquire, but it is necessary)

Used it for gift card buyers and cash quick change artists (sleight of hand scammers that would keep attempting to pay with cash by continuously handing the cashier more cash and “counting” it out with them and then removing some from the stack and confusing the cashier). Saved tens of thousands of dollars in losses and saved plenty of people from being scammed, particularly the elderly. In addition, had a lady come in freaking out after being asked to buy a gift card in order to “unfreeze her credit card account” from a huge charge to a porn website. Told the lady to hang up and call the bank directly, who confirmed no such charge existed. That lady went around the store singing praises about me, but I was just happy to make sure I could help prevent someone from being scammed. Good times

It is a shame. My aunt got a call from some Publisher's Clearinghouse scammers once some years ago, and they had an 876 #. Apparently they had some local persons though because they wanted her to meet them at WalMart to give them the Visa card. We always hear about the down side of a country and not the high points, sadly. I think I would avoid where all the cruise ship people are, but it would be an interesting country to see just for the natural and cultural aspect of it.

True. My mom got scammed by an American dude from florida. Dude called her, spoofing DCU’s number, and claimed that someone committed fraud with her account. She thought he was legit because he knew her name, email, and basically all the information associated with her account. To “verify,” he asked her for a code that was texted to her. DCU’s verification text says in all caps, “NEVER SHARE THIS CODE WITH ANYONE. DCU will never call you, etc.” But she still gave it to him. Then, thankfully, she opened the DCU app and saw she was logged out. So she tried to log back in, and found that the password was changed. She was able to reset the password and get back in, all the while still on the phone with the scammer. She thankfully didn’t completely lose accent to her account, but if she was a bit slower, she would have lost her account completely because the dude changed the email on the account shortly after she got back in. It was only after the scammer hung up, and she called DCU that she found out the first guy was the scammer the whole time.
Before she got access to her account, though, the guy transferred I think $2,400 out of the account. However, in order to do this, he linked his own bank account to hers. That meant we were able to gain access to it, and see it’s balance, transactions, etc. That’s how we found out he was in florida. We could see that he was spending the stolen money at hotels and casinos in Miami. She certainly wasn’t his first victim. We saw other large transfers into the account, including one that happened after ours. I took all of the information I could find, and reported him to his bank.
I’m certain that all of the names and emails he used were stolen, and that he stole someone’s SSN to open his account. I didn’t have anything concrete I could give to the police, so the best I could do was report his account so it could be shut down.
But seriously, how much of a piece of shit do you have to be to steal money, not even just to survive, but to stay in luxury hotels and gamble it all?
