  • Thirteen of Reaksa Himm's immediate family, including both his parents, were taken by the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot. They marched them from the remote northern village to which they had been exiled, out into the jungle. One by one they died but Reaksa remarkably survived.
30 years later he tracked down the soldiers responsible and, one by one, embraced them, gave them a scarf of friendship, and presented each with a Bible. He has also funded and had built a clinic, school, and five churches in the area. This is an astonishing tale of the consequences of spiritual rebirth.

@Hélia Alves Yes, but we don't earn nor deserve God's forgiveness - but if we are born again, if we are in Christ, sooner or later we understand that no one truly sins against us exactly, they owe us nothing, they owe all to God alone, sin against Him alone. And since Jesus paid for all sins, that sin IS paid for, whether they've surrendered their lives to Him, accepted salvation, redemption, eternal life, or not. So, they may not have eternal life, but they COULD, their sin IS paid for. So, who are we to hold that sin over them ? Jesus suffered for it already ! That doesn't always mean we can reconcile with someone, or should go tell them that we forgive them, in some situations/for some people it's taken ad condoning, enabling etc. , but on a case by case basis we should prayerfully let God guide us in this, and definitely need to have forgiveness in our hearts and will, & by the grace and healing of God be free from the anger or whatever. Not that we can't still feel righteous indignation over evil acts, but know that the person is themselves a slave to sin and needs Jesus, just as we all do/did.

If the host is uncomfortable with such details, they shouldn't host as it defeats the purpose. Also, Christianity deals with suffering by facing it head on, not by avoiding. The point of the conversation is to show, a Christian no matter his circumstances can rise above it - to make this point, it is essential to know how bad the situation was.

It is a privilige to hear his testimony of grace. Years ago, I met 2 men who'd been tortured for Christ. Both full of grace and humility. 1 was a young Russian Christian.
I understood then, so to speak, that if we haven't suffered in Him, we're nobody. Hopefully, this generation of many feeble, vain, me-me Christians will hear this man and other people like him and rethink the Christian life.

I agree with everything you just said. In the West, it's relatively easy to be a Christian. But in places like the Middle East, China, N Korea, parts of Africa being a Christian is a dangerous occupation. You can be tortured, imprisoned or killed for your faith. If persecution comes to the West, watch the Luke warm Christians disappear in droves. God will find his true followers then. I read this guy's story a few years back. Forgiveness actually relieved his burden. Who else but Christ could have taught him to forgive?

You make the world wonderful, huge, and powerful, we need so many more like you..... everywhere. Maybe then, we can all be the brothers and sisters that we are under God's eyes.
