Thank you. Now I know where Aphex got some of his sound from. I knew he used MS-20 a lot, but this confirms it for me. I'm gonna fuck with mine tomorrow and see if I can ged something original out of these "AFX" sounds.
Actually it's the ESP that creates the distortion, so it's not the filter but it is the machine itself, although pushed a bit outside its comfort space ;)
I have watched it and made the same patch on my ms-20, but it does not answer the question of how you have hooked up the MS-20 to the SQ-1 :). Because in my setup, it only plays the same note regardless of how i set the pitches on the SQ-1.
Lasse Jensen It's been too long for me to remember exactly,, but i used CV out A and splitted it at the MS50. U can use CV out A and B together, set it to Z mode. Here is an explanation i did in the comments earlier: "You'll need to use both A and B cv outputs to trigger cv in 1+2 (to pitch the noise) and the LPF(for pitch to filter tracking to make kick and snare/hats). OCs1 is noise, osc 2 is ringmod. Patch signal out to ESP in to overdrive the sound to your taste. Patch env1 rev to total in to make the kick envelop. On the SQ1 i just sequence some notes, ties and glides. You can check the link in the description for exact settings on the MS20. I used the MS50 only for its junctions, to have another copy of the SQ1's cv/gate signal, to send to my Korg X911 (which sits next to the SQ1). The X911 isn't playing in this video though."
Dude, I've misread your question. Must´ve been the easter vodka :) With only midi its not possible to do this. I guess you have the new MS20 mini? The incoming midi signal is converted to CV and gate signals and ouput at the keyboard and gate outs, but i don't think portamento over midi will be converted to increasing or decreasing voltage at the CV output. You'll have to see if it works and otherwise be creative ;)
This video was made with a MK2 filter MS20. I've got a MK1 filter MS20 as well and that sounds less good with this patch. My MK2 has a much better bass sound which is needed for the kick to sound more punchy and round instead of the typical MK1 screamy sound.
This is exactly how I made my beats for years, using my MS-10 & a couple analog sequencers.
Cool! I had MS-10 1982-84. On top of a LE Logan organ. Sometimes I replaced bass player with it or played in unison.

I'm waiting for my ms-20 fs to arrive. This is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing this awesome patch.
It ended and I was like no!!! Don’t let that beat stop! ✊🏻
Haha.! That just got unexpectedly awesome all of sudden…
Thats just fecking brilliant. I have an MS20 mini arriving soon, cant wait.
Holy crap, that sounds like it's going through a heavy distortion pedal... I had no idea the MS20 filter was that crazy

DFAM years before there was a DFAM.
yesss...that's why i love my ms20 !!!
This is awesome!
I just bought a SQ-1 @ ebay and are eager to try your shown setting myself... Thx for recording this!!!
Omg that kick is dope
KayKayTheProducer cheers kaykay ;)
Very inspiring! Thank you!
brilliant job, man ! thanks for inspiratiooonnnzzzz ;)
...gonna test with my mini 20....
Great.. now I gotta buy one. (SQ1 for my MS10)
Beautiful👍
Awesome!
Блин, чё-то я залип на это видео. Прям классная штука. Нужно будет на ВСТшках чё-то такое попробовать накрутить!

SICK PATCH ✊🏽👽🐛 subbed!
dang, that bangs! D:
Cheers Mate!
Killer beat!
where u have CV A Out and Gate from the SQ1 connected to? also where is your SYNC OUT going? sorry im a noob still
Like a dfam, but korg. Sounds nice
So...freakin'...awesome!
Yeah
awesum
Yeeeeaaaahhh
killer
can you change the tempo?
Jacobo Giraldo yeah sure, the sq1 tempo controls the beats tempo
Awesome job! How do you hook up the sq-1 to the MS-20 in this instance?
Check the video in the description for more info Lasse!

Totally understandable. Wow, thanks for the in-depth and quick response. Really appreciate it. Have a good day, sir.
YW! Hope you get it working. Are you using an old MS20 or the mini version?
Maybe a stupid question, but can I do the same thing with a sequence in my DAW through MIDI instead of the SQ-1?
TheAris621 yeah off course you can. as long as you use portamento you can do exactly the same
Dsil303 That's great. I've just ordered my MS-20. Can't wait to try it out!

Is this a mk1 or mk2?

Why is it that there is not single Korg SQ-1 video demonstrating it can be used for making actual nice music?
