I'm the complete opposite, I weigh 140 lbs, and I utilize turtle guard against the meatballs. Helps me recover my breath from being flattened like a pancake.
Turtle is definitely S tier. Its the most reliable way out of the bottom position and back to the feet. Especially in MMA. People only really get caught there after getting rocked on the feet or destroyed on the ground.
As an ex 3oo lbs. Meat ball I have never felt so attacked. I'm actully getting the Kaiju monster Gamera tattooed on my shin to venerate my turtle guard path. Also, it's not a fat man roll you have to yell "SCHWEINEROLLE" when you hit a brown belt with one.
single leg x as C -- seems really strange to me. That seems to be universally utilized by all the pros -- not just for the attacks and transitions, but simply as one of the most difficult guards to pass against a skilled player. You realize that most butterfly work leads into SLX ? Also- DLR has been the go to standard in guard play for probably 10 years. I realize these videos are made as clickbait - and its silly to even comment as it varies heavily by user. Telles and even Craig Jones would certainly tell you that Turtle guard can be really powerful when used correctly. I've rolled with some elite turtle guard players -- it can be crazy frustrating - even at the black belt level if the person using it is aggressive in looking for transitional attacks
I agree with basically everything on this list and I seem to do pretty good 🤷♂️ Just a blue belt over here, but people do struggle with my x guard, deep dlr, and butterfly guards.
@@jakebasher8 Usually, when people try to arm bar from the can opener (a guy tried that on me last week), I just stand up, move my hips forward and stack them when they open their guard.
@@jakebasher8 Closed guard is mainly just something you can't play in catch wrestling because you'll get pinned most of the time you're there and not just lose points but lose the whole bout.
All sorts of modern guard games build off a strong half guard. To say half guard is stagnant is kind of ignorant. Lots of leg entanglements start from having a strong half it's the first stepping stone. I mean Faria won the worlds multiple times with only a few sweeps everyone knew were coming and yet couldn't stop. Closed guard is A tier? Why the aren't more high level people not playing it exclusively anymore? The vast majority of the time it ends up being a stall and resting position. Half guard is way more dynamic than closed guard in sport bjj and has many more avenues it can go. Closed guard is quite limiting. Not too mention if you're a little guy with short legs good luck keep you closed guard on a bigger thicker opponent. If you're looking for bjj advice I wouldn't be taking it from this person. Sorry but your analysis is poor to say the least.
There was a quote floating around that came from a BJJ tournament from the commentary. What was said was in response after a transition to half guard. The quote went something along the lines of: "Ah, bottom half-guard. A place where good black belts go to die." And his co commentator agreed with him. Half guard is a good position, the thing of it is, the options to pass half guard are Neanderthal levels of easy compared to crafting a half guard system. The easiest beginner way to do it is: Shoulder of justice the bottom half players face, and/or deny bottom half's underhook and keep them flat on thier back. That beginner approach isn't going to solve every top half-guard situation, but smashing bottom half guard has never been easier. It's good to know a fee basics of half guard, especially when there are a few cool opportunities, like half butterfly. Other than that, I personally try to avoid bottom halfguard against people around my skill level or higher.
I like triangle guard
Triangle guard is really strong isn’t it?
@@nebnostunk9325 yes it's basically a finish
“Del leh Reeva” Is one of my favorites too

It's really very good for people with bad cardio like myself, good recovery position
Its not horrible for BJJ but it creates bad habits as turtle is a terrible position if the guy on top can strike
@@cb4354No you need turtle to build a base which is what most mma fighters do
You forgot to put my favorite position rubber guard

Completely Agree!
single leg X and and half butterfly are my personal favorites since I have long legs and they are decent for both offense and defense
lol liked the misanthropic voiceover, subscribed.
This guy gets his guard passed a lot if this is a serious list
My Guard has not been passed in Eons.
Im going to start playing turtle when i get down to 300lbs
If you ain't learning heel hooks halfway through white belt, yer gunna be left behind in a LOT of comps
Exactly lol
I am a white belt and I am, I know this to be the truth
Butterfly, half, and reverse DLR all work together- you can’t have a successful butterfly without all three.
yeah - this list is silly. Shows the lack of knowledge the guy has -- doesn't understand positioning or even how to look at what the pros use.
Did the butterfly guard run to Romania to flee rape charges?
Hey!! My berimbolos work 25% of the time!
I didn’t really care for the ‘love on the spectrum’ comment but everything else, spot on 😂
Open, side-open, spider, K, Z, Rubber guards?
Maybe in the next life
If you’re in Turtle guard you’ve spent the past 3 minutes of the match getting brutalized
U never included lockdown with half guard or rubber guard i allrdy hear 10p typing hateful words
W video G
Donkey, Turtle and Praying Mantis guard combo for perfect BJJ game
Good video, but you should have named the F tier as "leave the gym" like in the thumbnail
Oof good catch
I like to just stand back up
lol but seriously: closed guard and butterfly guard FTW
As a 300 lb meatball that turtles a lot I'm upset😂😂
This guy has never watched a danaher/Gordon instructional and it shows
half guard is the best guard for sweeps
Best guard is standing up
i hate the del riva guard because its so hard to sweep someone in for me 😭
K-guard is S tier

Closed guard is also a great way to get can opened by us catch wrestlers who don’t care about IBJJF rules... or your neck lol
I love it when people try to use the can opener on me 😂😂 free armbar
