The song was written by Mac Davis in 1969 -- he was not divorced until 1973

Before the divorce this is in 1970 in Vegas. She filed for divorce in 72 and finished in 73. By the way there is a version with his daughter Lisa Marie. Thanks for you great reaction. Be Blessed.

My neighbor used to sing with him for some years. She would offer me free tickets in prime seating but I was just interested in Rock N Roll and not Elvis. Oh well. Live and learn.

He was a master of showmanship and had a magnetic personality that drew people to him. He was also a skilled songwriter, and many of his songs have become classics. Elvis was a true original, and his creative genius helped to shape the sound and style of popular music for decades to come.

I absolutely love Elvis, however he wasn’t a songwriter.

Yeah Elvis didn't write songs as mentioned above. However he was a master at arranging songs and drawing the most emotion out of them.

this song is from the same time as in the ghetto, suspicious minds etc.. he was very happy in this time and started his las vegas concerts. his vocal is so relaxed. try the song long black limousine, or oh happy days, you know Elvis was someone who comes by once in our lives and then never again, he can really sing all styles and was also a very sweet person

Beautiful, emotional song written by Mac Davis and released in 1969 as a single by Elvis.
Such a tear jerker about the loss of a female in the relationship involving children as expressed from the child's point of view. 😭😭
This song and "In the Ghetto" always make me emotional.Elvis was a rock to get through this song. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Mary I went through this twice in my younger adult years. I had given up on relationships then (while not looking) my supervisor put me next to a girl at work who was in a bad marriage. We have four kids of our own and have been together since 2005. Cheers to you and Canada!!

One of a handful of million selling single and LP vinyl releases in a flurry of activity around 69-70. The different eras of Elvis are fascinating.
Could you play You'll Think of Me, or True Love Travels On a Gravel Road? These are two more rare gems Elvis gave us in this period.

Oh you should definitely give a listen to this same song along with his daughter, it's even better, and she also had a very powerful voice. The official video is the very best.

Brandon - What a terrific and timely submission. I haven't heard the emotive song in many years, and it has not lost its luster one bit. Elvis more than did this song justice as a lived experience. Harri, your in-depth review was excellent.

Elvis is my all time favorite. But you should do a few reactions to the Platters. Smoke gets in my eyes & the great pretender. The lead singer Tony Williams was a amazing voice from the 1950's

I saw someone show this in slow motion once and a close up at the end shows as he looks up, bites his lip and there looks like he had a sheen of tears in his eyes. I took a screenshot of it and he certainly is moved during that part. I often wondered if he was thinking of when his beloved mom passed and there’s a famous photo taken by the media of he and his father sitting on the front porch & they are both crying and Elvis has his arm around his dad trying to comfort him. Thank you for sharing this. It’s a beautiful song, beautifully done. 😢😢❤

Nothing to do with his divorce or Elvis' ex-wife....not sure why some people automatically go there at all EP's love songs or sad songs. He liked the song and it reminded him of losing his beloved Mama and the heartbreak he and his father endured.
