This is a great collection, but I think it's time for Sega to start realizing that the Sega CD and 32X were also part of their 16-bit heyday. I'd like to see a collection that includes games from those add ons.

It’s so great that these collections are still being made being that the original versions still exist and the publishers could simply charge for them individually via PSN/LIVE/eShop.
My favorite Genesis game 'Gunstar Heroes' and Phantasy Star and Shining Force games. Thats a definite purchase. Rest in Peace Total Biscuit. It's very sad to hear this news. Live life to the fullest everyone :)

I got this. Now I won't be so bored while waiting for my next favorite game to be released every time. It has many games I can go back to before a release of another brand new game.
I had the Sega Genesis collection for PS2, and I really enjoyed how they added in select Sega Master System games to compliment Genesis sequels (such as Phantasy Star 1). Any chance of them bringing that back? Even if not, I'd love to see Sega collections for more than just the Genesis. With the size of modern BluRay disks, even sizable Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast collections are feasible. To say nothing of Master System and maybe even arcade collections.
Overall, this set is an improvement over the Ps3/360 collection just because of the classic Treasure games (Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy). But it's still missing some greats, like Thunder Force 3&4, Musha, Monster World IV, Super Hang On, Ghouls & Ghosts, Alisia Dragoon, Konami's games: Castlevania B, Contra HC and Rocket Knight. The Japanese Yuu Hakusho Makyou Toitsusen fighting game would have awesome too though but that's a pipedream, as well as Langrisser II...lol

I've got most of these games on my Sega Genesis. Bought Sega Genesis Collection for both my PS2 and PSP. Bought Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for my XBox 360. Bought the AtGames Genesis series (don't judge me!)... Downloaded all the Genesis games on my Smartphone. And now....I will be buying this soon. Will I ever stop buying the same Sega Genesis games over and over? Nope! Haha.
Adding games from other publishers is harder due to licensing. The usual suspects are no that much of a problem: Capcom, Konami, etc. are still in business. But some of the better/rarer games belong to companies that do not exist anymore or the rights to those IPs have to be bought and be reactivated, like: Renovation: El Viento, Gaiares, Arrow Flash, Valis, Valid SYD, Valis 3. Seismic: MUSHA. Accolade: Star Control, Double Dragon (best console port aside from sound I've seen). Virgin Games: Cool Spot, Dune 2 (also a big thanks to EA for killing Westwood Studios), The Lion King. All Technosoft games: Thunderforce Series, Elemental Master, Herzog Zwei. Taito: Rastan Saga 2, SAGAIA, Growl, Cadash. Data East: Midnight Resistance, Turrican 3, Two Crude Dudes, Mega Turrican. Arena Entertainment: Alien 3. All Toaplan games: Truxton, Grind Stormer, Fire Shark, Hellfire, Wardner, Zero Wing. Etc.
@Andre Wills : If SEGA has the rights to Technosoft's games, then it is a crying shame they didn't include Herzog Zwei. It was one of the best RTS + Action game there were for the Genesis. Also, companies most often miss good oportunities like this. They have the rights to very good, if old, IPs yet they prefer to reuse and repeat other things ad-nauseam. It would have been a good throwback to _"SEGA does what Nintendon't"_ had they included games that the SNES Classic didn't pack, like TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, Zombies Ate My Neighbors or Earthworm Jim. Imagine if Philosoma for the PSOne had been a Thunderforce game instead. (Thunderforce V: Perfect System is good, but Philosoma looks better and has more variety). Or having a Battlefront 2's (Ugh! Bad game... I know...) starfighter assault kind of Thunderforce game where weapons like the Sever and Lancer are actually specials charged by a bar filled by scoring hits or kills. (And just for kicks and giggles, two other players control the claws in coop).
Sega definitely owns the rights to Technosoft's IPs. Thunder Force IV is even one of the first Sega Ages games coming to the Switch! Unbelievable that it and Herzog Zwei aren't on this collection. This doesn't even have stuff like Jewel Master and Alisia Dragoon, both of which were published by Sega. Or how about Crusader of Centy, which was published by Atlus, which Sega OWNS! It pisses me off because so many people don't realize how deep and varied the Genesis library actually is, because Sega just keeps releasing basically the same collection with the same games on it. Anyhow, in short, I agree with you!

Switch owners don't realize it now, but they are actually getting the better end of the deal with the Sega Ages games. Even if they are released game by game, I would prefer them. If you've never played the Sega 3D Classics Collections on the 3DS, you really don't know how good developer M2 is at remastering old games. These will be special!
I pre-ordered at Game Stop so I could get the free poster that comes with it (Golden Ax/Streets Of Rage). I have been a HUGE Sonic fan since 1991 and I also love Streets Of Rage so that is also a decision maker for me, however, I am quite thrilled to see that they have finally included the Toejam & Earl games for the first time (and I have a former work buddy who might enjoy playing the first one online with me), plus I finally get a chance to try Gunstar Heroes so that is cool too. You also made a good point about the kids of today, that these classic collections are a good way for them to experience the games of yesteryear on current-gen consoles, and in high definition no less. I'm sorry to say that I've never heard of TotalBiscuit until just now but I was quite shocked to see that he was four years younger than me, which makes me wonder how he passed away. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by his fans, maybe I will check out some of his reviews if they are still up.
I do love that they give the option for Regions for some games but it must be stated that some region versions of games have lag. Streets of Rage 3 has 3 regions. Regionless, EN, and JP. Regionless and JP function perfectly and the JP version has the original color schemes along with Ash as a playable character. The EN version has music and slight input lag.

The big question for me is: is it better than the Ultimate Gen/MD Collection we got on 360/PS3? And from the looks of it it's a big fat NO, sadly. The extras like graphics filters and challenges are nifty, but don't make up for the fact that the Eccos and Sonic 3 aren't included and that the Ultimate Collection had the same exact set of games plus developer interviews, the missing titles etc. for a lower price. For this new one to really impress me and make it essential it needed to include all of those plus more surprises like some Sega CD and 32X titles and ones we don't normally see in Sega compilations like Eternal Champions, Contra, Castlevania etc. Instead Sega seemed content to lazily rehash the earlier compilation.

The reason why games like Contra aren't in is because they weren't made by Sega. All of the games in this are. I'm still going to get it, but I *really* dislike how they're missing other classics like Outrun, Super Hang-On, and Space Harrier. Edit: now that I think about it, maybe Outrun and SHO are not in because of licensing with Ferrari and Honda. Not sure about SH. And in case anyone doesn't know, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are missing because of the music being songs that sounds very similar to Michael Jackson's songs. Licensing sucks.
Gunstar Heroes and Vectorman were both published by Sega. Maybe this makes the rights easier to secure? Maybe they own the publishing rights still? And I don't think Space Harrier ever came to the Genesis, however the inferior Space Harrier II was a launch title.
It would be nice to have both Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps in this collection, but unfortunately Konami is not what it used to be and they could care less about what they've done in the past and would rather concentrate on pachinko and slot machines versus giving players what they really want. A perfect example of how crappy they are now is Metal Gear Survive.
Yes I did. I grew up with a Sega Genesis, many of this games in this collection I hold close to my heart, I will be unlocking the platinum trophy on the PS4 and will be getting my money's worth
Sega classics are sweet, even better on my x1x. Dreaming for sega to announce phantasy star on xbox 1 x. A remake of streets of rage, comic zone, a new shinobi at e3.

Have the one for my 360. If I go to a newer console this will for sure be a pick up. Would be very cool seeing how the look of some of the rpg games Phantasy Star and Shining Force (A couple favs for sure) would be after using some of the tweaks. No unlockable stuff this time around?
The only thing that dissatisfies me about these collections is that Sega doesn’t bother reaching out to others companies. I would love to see Hardcorps, Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures, street fighter, ghouls & ghosts, and hyperstone heist.
Here is how i look at it tbh if it didn't have the online multiplayer i might not have been so keen to purchase this game as i own loads of them on the steam megadrive classics but then again i couldn't resist because i love Streets Of Rage and Sonic the lack of some titles and some S3&K i was like whatttt!! also R.I.P TotalBiscuit i never saw his stuff but nonetheless rest easy dude.

It's a nice collection and all, but as someone that already has 8 of these games bought on my Xbox, AND a perfectly working emulator on the same Xbox, it's kinda hard to justify the $30 this costs. Especially when there's also a few games in here I'd personally probably never play, like Phantasy Star 3 and 4, and the Toejam & Earl games. I mean, sure, I'd play the hell outa this if I had it, but I can't really find a good reason for me to buy it. The online multiplayer is nice, as is the challenges, but not really $30 nice.
I can't find any info. Is the Sega mega drive collection and the Genesis collection identical? I mean do they both have the NTSC version of the games. Or does the first actually contain the PAL versions. Because if that's the case I would import the Genesis collection.
A good selection of games, but my only complaint is the sound issues and input lag. For instance, in Sonic 1 and 2 the sound is a bit off when Sonic runs past the goal post. Also there is a split second lag between a button press and action performed. I just hope these get patched soon.
PLEASE MAN! HELP ME WITH THIS: I just bought this collection and I love it, but I can't custumize my own control layout and there is no turbo mode unlike the previous collections. Do you know what I should do so SEGA could fix this? Optional suggestion: We should ask SEGA to release more dlc games: Like more Sonic games, Dolphin games, Hang On, ect. Or even more arcade games like Revenge of Death Adder or After Burner just like their previous collections. P.S: I know that you are not the one that I should be speaking about this. No Strider, no Ghouls n Ghosts, No Devil Chrash, So many amazing Genesis games, I wish they mixed it up a bit, I mean did we really need 3 versions of golden axe?

I have been a HUGE Sonic fan since 1991 and I also love Streets Of Rage so that is also a decision maker for me, however, I am quite thrilled to see that they have finally included the Toejam & Earl games for the first time (and I have a former work buddy who might enjoy playing the first one online with me), plus I finally get a chance to try Gunstar Heroes so that is cool too. You also made a good point about the kids of today, that these classic collections are a good way for them to experience the games of yesteryear on current-gen consoles, and in high definition no less. I'm sorry to say that I've never heard of TotalBiscuit until just now but I was quite shocked to see that he was four years younger than me, which makes me wonder how he passed away. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by his fans, maybe I will check out some of his reviews if they are still up.

I do love that they give the option for Regions for some games but it must be stated that some region versions of games have lag. Streets of Rage 3 has 3 regions. Regionless, EN, and JP. Regionless and JP function perfectly and the JP version has the original color schemes along with Ash as a playable character. The EN version has music and slight input lag.

The big question for me is: is it better than the Ultimate Gen/MD Collection we got on 360/PS3? And from the looks of it it's a big fat NO, sadly. The extras like graphics filters and challenges are nifty, but don't make up for the fact that the Eccos and Sonic 3 aren't included and that the Ultimate Collection had the same exact set of games plus developer interviews, the missing titles etc. for a lower price.
For this new one to really impress me and make it essential it needed to include all of those plus more surprises like some Sega CD and 32X titles and ones we don't normally see in Sega compilations like Eternal Champions, Contra, Castlevania etc. Instead Sega seemed content to lazily rehash the earlier compilation.
If only UGC was compatible on the Xbox One

The reason why games like Contra aren't in is because they weren't made by Sega. All of the games in this are.
I'm still going to get it, but I *really* dislike how they're missing other classics like Outrun, Super Hang-On, and Space Harrier. Edit: now that I think about it, maybe Outrun and SHO are not in because of licensing with Ferrari and Honda. Not sure about SH.
And in case anyone doesn't know, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are missing because of the music being songs that sounds very similar to Michael Jackson's songs. Licensing sucks.
Just play Yakuza 0 if you want out run, super hang on and Space Harrier. Plus you get a great Yakuza game as well lol
Gunstar Heroes and Vectorman were both published by Sega. Maybe this makes the rights easier to secure? Maybe they own the publishing rights still? And I don't think Space Harrier ever came to the Genesis, however the inferior Space Harrier II was a launch title.

First time I heard about this collection, I thought it sounded too good to not be crap, but now I'm really excited about it!
Sega should've made this Genesis collection into an exclusive to Yakuza 6 when you walk into an arcade in the game.

It would be nice to have both Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps in this collection, but unfortunately Konami is not what it used to be and they could care less about what they've done in the past and would rather concentrate on pachinko and slot machines versus giving players what they really want. A perfect example of how crappy they are now is Metal Gear Survive.

The only thing that dissatisfies me about these collections is that Sega doesn’t bother reaching out to others companies.

It's a nice collection and all, but as someone that already has 8 of these games bought on my Xbox, AND a perfectly working emulator on the same Xbox, it's kinda hard to justify the $30 this costs. Especially when there's also a few games in here I'd personally probably never play, like Phantasy Star 3 and 4, and the Toejam & Earl games.
I mean, sure, I'd play the hell outa this if I had it, but I can't really find a good reason for me to buy it. The online multiplayer is nice, as is the challenges, but not really $30 nice.
I can't find any info. Is the Sega mega drive collection and the Genesis collection identical? I mean do they both have the NTSC version of the games. Or does the first actually contain the PAL versions. Because if that's the case I would import the Genesis collection.

A good selection of games, but my only complaint is the sound issues and input lag. For instance, in Sonic 1 and 2 the sound is a bit off when Sonic runs past the goal post. Also there is a split second lag between a button press and action performed. I just hope these get patched soon.

I just bought this collection and I love it, but I can't custumize my own control layout and there is no turbo mode unlike the previous collections. Do you know what I should do so SEGA could fix this?
Optional suggestion: We should ask SEGA to release more dlc games: Like more Sonic games, Dolphin games, Hang On, ect. Or even more arcade games like Revenge of Death Adder or After Burner just like their previous collections.

No Strider, no Ghouls n Ghosts, No Devil Chrash, So many amazing Genesis games, I wish they mixed it up a bit, I mean did we really need 3 versions of golden axe?
