What a beautiful place it was. This video will be so important to a lot of people who want to remember how it used to be. My heart hurts for those of you who suffered through the fire.
Just about one week before the fire my wife asked me “Hey Honey, what do you think of going back to Lahaina for our 25th anniversary”? (We spent our honeymoon there in 2000) she was planning ahead 2 years. I said “Cool-Yes”!!!
I feel sorry for all the ones that have lost their lives, including all family, pets and wild animals , My condolences to all who lost family and friends May God see you all through this
As I read this, news reports the loss of life almost at 100, but with still maybe a thousand still unsearched buildings in the town that have been destroyed. I am grieving for them, who did not get out and that we may learn of soon.
I will never forget being in the shops in Lahaina by the water and looking over to Lanai. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I am so sorry for such a loss, and I send love and good wishes to all of the people who were so devastated by this fire.
Thank you for posting this. My daughter is among the many who lost her home and belongings to the fire. Someday when she is over the shock of it all and back on her feet a little more, I will share it with her. Aloha🙏🏼💕✌️
Please ask your daughter if any residents have been allowed in; the “authorities” say no one has been allowed in except them but yet we see pictures of people on bikes and in flip flops wondering about? We are also advised that no drone footage is allowed and so forth and so on? Folks, nothing is as it seems and there seems to be “unsavory” characters attempting a “land grab” from Hawaiians, the governor and mayor are complicit, do your research!
yes. Greenville, California was Erased like this ,in "The Dixie Fire," and FRIEND L, HAD only what was in the car, as her parent's dear olde home, was totaled, as well. 900,00 acres burned. Luckily, I had a lot of pictures of my friends's MOM, and family house, and being there, in '96.. A great idea to take a Day Trip through little towns, and film. Also, a good idea to give dear friends copies of pictures, and photos of beloved things.
I appreciate the compliment! Quite saddened that I will no longer be able to visit there again. I was staying in Kahana/Papakea which I hear survived. That and the Kaanapali area may still be a place where visitors can go and see again some time.

Charm from days gone by, a reprieve from city madness, a walkable town that was scaled for humans not cars. I pray this town is able to rebuild back to quiet charm, but once the big guys get involved, well they don't have the same visions us peasants have, they want bigger and better stuff, bigger roads, bigger high-rises, wider this and taller that. This is a sad day for all, especially those that lost their lives. Thank you for the refreshing video. You're in our prayers Maui residents!

@@aaronwilliams6989 I absolutely agree with you It is such a tragic thing to happen My cousin used to live in Honolulu and visited Maui on a number of occasions and told me how beautiful it is.
My cousin who lived in Honolulu visited Maui many times and explained the awful road situation and how restricted the people were in terms of escaping.
And I guarantee you, THEY knew. It's like buying a house, a car, if you inspect it long enough you will find things that would cause problems in the future and things that would not protect you and your family, like the roof. Think about what I'm saying here, just think.
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Hard to believe that Lahaina is gone. Prayers for all who have lost loved ones, homes and property. I hope they rebuild it to look as it did and try to recapture the charm and character.
Thank you so much for sharing this. My husband, son and I lived on Maui - both Kihei and Lahaina - many years ago. This brought such great memories of the beauty of the island. There are no words to describe what I’m feeling now. 😢

Yes it is very sad but i hope something good comes out of all the heartbreak. We are relying too much on the internet for things like warnings and the connection is so fragile. There needs to be back up that is totally not relying on electricity or internet - like the old air raid sirens. I live in Australia and we have fires like this all too often and i feel for Hawaiians and also the Canadians and Greeks that either have just had or are experiencing wild fires.
Mahalo nui loa brudda Ed. Funny how you find yourself capturing something so important. A last view of old Lahaina. Please capture for us a view of the new Lahaina when the time is right, and help us through this grief as we grow and rebuild.

Thanks for the video. They are a great way to visit other places, and times, too. We got to see Lahaina when it was beautiful. It will come back, I'm sure.
I can never figure out why non-believers have to inform everyone about their annoyances. Just be annoyed (if that's your thing) without the declaration.
@anitamiller7960 See, now you're just copying me, so not clever. What's funny is that I'm not a believer but I don't get my panties all in a knot just because someone says, "prayers to all those affected by this tragedy." That person is sending his or her well wishes and good vibes the only way they know how. You, on the orher hand, introduce irrelevant attacks when people are talking about a tragedy. So much bitterness and wasted energy. Live and let live. So what if they send their prayers? Who cares? Good bye.
It is always sad and scary and heartbreaking to hear of any fires, hurricanes, tsunami etc, but this time and the destruction of Lahaina and its victims, just brought me to tears. That was a piece of heaven on earth and even that is gone. Devastating….
Thanks for the video it is beautiful, like all the pictures of your adventure and the red flowers along sidewalks. Hope to see more beautiful pictures in the future.❤
so wild, we were supposed to be taking the ferry to Lanai that same day, lol, but ended up changing plans last minute to the Ocean Center, Lahaina Harbor & accidentally ended up on the Kahekili Highway! In Lahaina, we went on the submarine tour, walked & shopped around & had lunch at Cool Cats & grabbed coffee at Bad Ass Coffee 1 week before the fire. I love that you got all this on film, it is such a beautiful town & community!
Actually the Banyan tree survived, but the rest of Lahaina was wiped out. I was there in Feb. 2022 and also took the ferry to Lanai. I went to the Cat Sanctuary.
As calm and peaceful and irritant-free as heaven!!🎉🎉🎉 Even the motor running sound was so pleasant!! Despite the jazz!! 😂 The prison!!! 😂😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing!! God bless us all!!!
The ferry trip reminded me of our crossing to Widbey from Seattle and back. The town was very well set up amonst the most beautiful trees. What a tragedy.
Yes, I am still trying to understand it as a tragedy. This was the town where Herman Melville wrote his whaling story "Moby Dick." Extremely historic. There's some shift in history that we don't perceive yet from this, I think.
(sorry, Melville wrote that in Massachusetts, I think, inspired by the time he spent in Lahaina. Moby Dick was actually based on a real albino Sperm whale called Mocha Dick that matched the Moby story in most respects.)
I visited Lahaina last year with my wife before we had our first baby. It was a beautiful little town with so much charm and history. We have fond memories walking along Front St. checking out the shops, chatting with the locals, taking in the serene views and coastal breezes. I can't believe what happened there, my heart and prayers goes to all those who lost everything. In an instant this town went from a peaceful retreat to a hellscape, it's unimaginable.
As the shuttle drove along the road to Lanai City, the dried out, tan grasses were very apparent. Now just imagine the hillsides above Lahaina covered with similar vegetation in the days leading to the fire outbreak.
the ad that came up before this video was for 'storyteller tactics cards' .....old courthouse now whaling museum, Lahaina in the wake of Lanai....I had to bring it up because i wondered if this island was targeted a long time ago to be 'in the wake' per se. sorry, so much intel in this video it is eye opening. Thank you. So sad so many people are suffering. Hoping these innocent people will have rebuilt homes courtesy of the government funding programs, etc. What devastation. ugh. glad you got to document, in a way, before Lahaina was destroyed by these wildfires with strong winds and then some.
What a beautiful place it was. This video will be so important to a lot of people who want to remember how it used to be. My heart hurts for those of you who suffered through the fire.

Mahalo nui loa brudda Ed. Funny how you find yourself capturing something so important. A last view of old Lahaina. Please capture for us a view of the new Lahaina when the time is right, and help us through this grief as we grow and rebuild.
It's an honor, bro!
I am trembling about Palm Springs being zeroed in on by Hurricaine Hillary. I don't wan't another of my videos to describe a place that has been struck by disaster!
Thank you for sharing this it was a beautiful place sending prayers for everyone
WOW, wish I could have seen it. 💕
Thanks so much. ❤️
You did a great job of filming everything! It felt like I was there. I can't get over the beauty. I hope to visit Hawaii someday.....
I am sorry i never made it to this historic charming beach town
Whoever you are thanks a million for the journey Never been there and might not be. Just gorgeous. God bless.
You are so kind
Stunningly beautiful 😻 love thoughts and prayers from Australia 🇦🇺🙏🌺 life changed in an instant its heartbreaking 💔 😢🙏 i am so sorry for Lahaina's people and their immense loss 😢😢 🇦🇺
Before the fire was such a peaceful and beautiful place.❤❤
Thx for ❤the lovely visit of Lanai❤
Pleasure !
Thanks for letting me come with you on a small journey across the bay . Great to see. So sad to get back to Maui and the black ,dead earth. Happiness in the future
It's an honor being able to present it to you.
Thanks for the video. They are a great way to visit other places, and times, too. We got to see Lahaina when it was beautiful. It will come back, I'm sure.
Such a tragedy. Prayers to all those affected by this disaster.
These fires are MAN MADE!!!!!!
The music really compliments this beautiful place Lahaina, nice video. 💞🙏🏼 for the people.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this !
My pleasure!
Looking beautiful and peaceful
Thanks for the video it is beautiful, like all the pictures of your adventure and the red flowers along sidewalks. Hope to see more beautiful pictures in the future.❤
Terrific video. Thanks for sharing. I have been to Lahaina town many, many times but have never been to Lanai. What a great little island.
Thank you for sharing. Praying for its people 🙏❤️
so wild, we were supposed to be taking the ferry to Lanai that same day, lol, but ended up changing plans last minute to the Ocean Center, Lahaina Harbor & accidentally ended up on the Kahekili Highway!
I was introduced to Kat, the owner of the Cat Sanctuary, in Mike Carrol's Art Gallery there.
That is because it was a DEW attack which only burns houses and cars but leave the trees alive. prayers for all in Maui.
A trip that I would have loved to make
Mahalo for the video
Love to the Lahaina people ❤

Beautiful video of a beautiful place.... it holds more memories to people than you'll ever know... 🙏
Thank you for sharing. I leave for Honolulu in a few weeks. Thankfully, you were able to capture wonderful memories of your time in Maui.
I walked those exact streets and shops last September. Memories to be treasured because I will never get back there again.
Superb video, clear captions and happy music.
I really appreciate your compliment! Thanks.
As calm and peaceful and irritant-free as heaven!!🎉🎉🎉 Even the motor running sound was so pleasant!! Despite the jazz!! 😂 The prison!!! 😂😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing!! God bless us all!!!
Welcome!
Wonderful tour...Scenic, informative and educational...Thanks
I am only looking at the beautiful place before the fire. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful city it once was. I hope the owners do not sell their properties to any real estate poachers. But instead, rebuild and thrive.
God Bless Lahaina 🙏🏻
