    Garth, instead of welding it back, remove the hacked up metal, make the hole nice, and fabricate a nice removable plate. It'll save you time if there's problems and will still look good. Food for thought.

    I'm loving the 'layout' of this channel; you give the idea of what you're doing, then go right to it, skipping over the 'boring' part, picking up after it's all over with. Can't wait to see the new project & I LOVE the idea for the next give away!

    A tip on dropping the tank on a thirdgen. You have to lower the rear as far as the brake lines will let you to drop the tank all the way out. If you do weld up the hack job you will need to fully drop the tank anyway. You gained a new subscriber doing this revival!

    Hey Garth, it’s nice to see someone else taking on a project similar to mine. I also have an 87 iroc-z 350 tpi that sat in a barn for over 20 years, fortunately and also unfortunately it has t-tops, the unfortunate part is the barn leaked and so did they, I’m having to re do the whole interior and eventually will have to weld in some floor pans, it’s all original and part’s matching. I’m having electrical issues and problems with the prom chip in the ecu, I’m thinking about taking it out and putting a fitech ultimate tpi stand-alone ecu in it.

  • @1320freek
    @1320freek ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn’t read through all your comments so this may have been mentioned, but since that hole is already in the floorboard, why don’t you make a clean cut and make it an acceess panel that you can use at a later date if you need to. Thanks for the videos.

    Wow! That fuel-pump access hole is savage! I disagree with you about not doing that. It makes more sense than pulling the exhaust and dropping the panard-bar. It can be done neatly and secured and sealed with panel screws and silicone. Fuel pumps fail often these days with ethanol-blended fuels. Having an access-panel saves time and hassle. Many auto-makers have them now in their cars. As long as you limit your cutting to the thin sheet-metal plate and not the wavy gussets, you are not diminishing the structure of the car.

    • @garthsgraveyardgarage
      @garthsgraveyardgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not worried about structure, I hate modifying things like that and would prefer to do the harder job to keep it original.

    You should be able to hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key. Of course if you don’t hear the pump it’s a chance it’s bad but, if you do, then that little piece of gas line that connects the actual fuel pump to the sender is disintegrated. That happens when they sit up a long time. In that case you have to drop the tank or you can check under the carpet in the hatch to see if somebody cut the trap door to access the fuel pump.
