Another excellent how to video from Autodoc. Two safety points if I may - use impact sockets (black finish) with the air gun and if the new arm is supplied with a protective plastic cover on the ball joint boot, leave the cover on until the ball peg is inserted in the hub. That way the rubber boot can't be accidentally damaged.
Exactly the video I was looking for, i picked up my MK4 for a good price but came with the cost of having to redo the a bunch of suspension work I was quoted over $800 to do front end rebuild looks like I'll be saving myself some money now 😎 thanks.
According to factory advice the screws for front and rear bushings should be changed every time! The tightening torque is 70 Nm + 90 degrees. ( don't use impact wrench to torque them)
Thank you for your feedback! Thank you for your valuable remark! We have already corrected this mistake and now we use the wrench torque and specify all the tightening torque values. Best regards, Autodoc Team.
szasza8 I think you are right. I think they are stretch bolts which are strained when torqued. Re-using them will put more stress on them and there is a risk they could snap.
@@autodocuk thank you for your video! I lost the long lower control arm bolt (N90484004) M12x1.5x82mm so just replacing it today. Expensive TTY (Torque-to-Yield) / stretch bolts!!! Why VW, Why? 🙄
Thank you for the feedback! The sound can be tuned off on the panel below the video. Your opinion is important for us, we will take this into the consideration .Best regards, Autodoc.
What he doesn't show is removal of the plastic cover to get at the side 19mm bolt. I just completed one side and the 19mm nuts were so rusted I had to remove the 3 x 13mm bolts. I also had to remove the spinal nut so I had more movement to release the wishbone. You are super lucky for this to be completed in 10 minutes more like a couple hours.
Thank you for the valuable clarification. Unfortunately the degree of complexity of the replacement on each car is individual. We regret that during your dismantling you encountered such a problem. We strongly recommend using all special tools and processing bolted joints. Best Regards, Autodoc team.
Nice video and I like the store as well. I buy lots of parts from you. However, you re replacing both the ball joint and the control arm. Replacing only the arm means you dont have to remove the 'difficult' ball joint. Just loosen the lower 3 nuts on the arm.
In general, the replacement will be similar, the only thing may be slightly different is the design features of your car. More detailed information can be found in the technical documentation for repairing your car.

I am trying to remove the left lower arm. My problem is that the bolt for the front bush cannot come out because it hits the pan of the gearbox. Can you please demonstrate in a video how to remove this bolt on the left lower arm front bush. Thank you
Right front control arm is very easy to remove and fit but left front control arm is more difficult to remove and fit . you will might need to remove top gearbox Mount or drop the suspension down which will take much more time at least 2 hours to replace left front control arm
Thank you for the feedback! Your opinion and remarks are very important for us. We will take them into consideration for our next tutorial. Best regards, Autodoc.
Tony Mullins, thank you for sharing this information. I have a 2004 GTI VR6 and need to replace the control arms because the bushings are worn. I would prefer to not remove the oil pan if it's avoidable. Do believe it's absolutely necessary? Damian Lamb, commented in this thread that if the "dog link" is removed, the engine can be moved forward enough to remove the control arm. What are your thoughts on his recommendation? Also, Damian Lamb, if the dog link is removed, are you really able to move the engine forward even though the engine is still attached to engine mounts? Finally, for Auto Doc, this is another great video. Those of us with the MK4 GTI VR6, would appreciate it if you could possibly make videos with that car if it's available to you. If it's not available, we understand. I still commend you for making well produced, informative and value added tutorials. You have helped me a lot. Outstanding work!

Just cut the bolt with a reciprocating saw

Yes
Ive heard that replacing the drivers side arm is harder is that true?

Replacing the left lever is the same as the right.

Dumb question, what is the 'thing' called that you first take the 16mm bolt out of? Thanks
This unscrewed the lower mount of the stabilizer bar.

My car is a 2002 VW bora automatic transmission and I want to replace the left hand (near side) wishbone/lower arm.

If you unbolt the dogbone (bottom motor mount), you can push the motor back away from it.
Is this just for left hand drive golfs?
now if this was a vr6 mk4 you would have to remove the oil pan because you can't pull the front bolt out

Tony Mullins can you jack the motor up out of the way ???
Would have to raise the motor on a 1.8t to get that bolt out
Придется поднять мотор на 1,8 т, чтобы вытащить этот болт
Quiero cambiar la misma Orquídea pero del lado del chofer

It's just a tire iron / spoon lever ..used for changing tires. any pry bar would work in this application. FYI www.amazon.com/dp/B01JBK0V1C
Because everyone has a car lift at home 🤣
The car lift is used in service stations.
