Hello! My husband and I are really enjoying watching your movies about your gardens. In April you said you were doing a potato experiment. Steve used to be a garden rounds man, he said that if you plant English marigolds alongside your potatoes, the wireworms won't go near them. They don't like the smell of the secretions of marigolds.
I love your allotment and it is so encouraging to me to see a real garden not pretending that everything is always perfect. I am in Nottinghamshire too, and have all the same kind of weeds and weather as you do. Thank you for lovely honest video.
Wow, that is quite a huge allotment. I admire how you are able to keep up with it especially with all the plants and flowers. I have 5 raised beds and 5 Asian pears semi dwarf fruit trees in my backyard and I have a hard time keeping up with it. Luckily no weeds. To keep little pests away, I sprinkle red chili powder on my raised beds. For appeasing purpose, I lined the fence borders with hostas which I split every year so I don't have to buy.
Everything is looking pretty good! Glad you aren't stressing over the weeds. Hopefully that little ingrate bird needs to adjust to your presence & get friendly. :) Love how you make space for wildlife.
Awesomeness! Your garden is looking so beautiful and I love all the veggies and flowers you are growing in your greenhouse. Happy Gardening and have a great weekend! 😊👩🏽🌾🌱🌷
Hi! Just discovered your interesting and inspiring growing videos. Always good to see other gardens and allotments. I have been an Organic gardener for long time and its also my full time occupation....lets see what this summer brings after the heat of 2018. So far very mixed! I am in Hampshire happily growing and mixing food and flowers like you, thanks again for sharing and your enthusiasm, good wishes, G
Your plot looks lovely in your spring, keep at the thistle you will win. I had some in my glass house when I first arrived at this house fifteen years ago now none to be seen.
A solution to the wire worm problem is to bury a large raw beef bone which has been cracked open to expose the marrow. Mark the spot carefully and dig it up about 6 to 8 weeks later. All the wire worms go into the marrow of the bone. Burn or dispose of bone and inhabitants. We don't have foxes to dig in gardens in New Zealand so you may have to alter this slightly eg bury inside netting
ever tired using seaweed as soil amendments ? much less seashells - very good stuff with other plot heres old idea : make series of mounds , plant corn on top beans/peas on sides , then about base put squashes - all work in harmony with each other & will fill area out nicely as well as lovely to look at, & easy mainatainence - - - just a thought, thank you PS- so far as thistle control , could try covering w/tarp OR newspaper pinned -which can be left in place to plant into; even covered w/skimcoat of mulch for decorative . Another option is covering w/plastic , preferably clear to heatup & burn out plants-black will eventually smother too.
Hello Katrina, I think Ruth Stouts methods would help you with weeds on your second plot . She kept old hay piled over the whole garden and weed that showed recieved more hay topping. The only tilling is by the worms that work under the composting hay. If you have a post office address, I have copy of her book I would will to send.
Just found you this morning, I'm in the Mid- Atlantic area here in the States, I so enjoy watching the UK gardeners I've happened onto. Maybe no dig would be a good way to go at your friends to help cut down on the weeds, I watch Charles Dowding for all his years of gardening knowledge, right now I'm going to watch some more of you.
Ooh, you're like a month ahead of me, weather wise 😅 Still have a risk of frost at night here, halfway up in Sweden ☹️ About the potatoes - here in Sweden we cut the seed potatoes in half, let them dry, and _then_ plant them out. All this to prevent those nasty little potato eating creatures. 🌱
Your plot looks amazing. i wouldn't worry too much about not having frog spawn in it, when you do have big healthy frogs. you are taking good advantage of the beautiful greenhouse snow n the other one which is so nice to see. just a thought on all those thistles. They are very tenacious. Have you considered cutting them all back and putting tarps down to kill off the new growth? it wont look pretty, but it will suppress the weed growth until you are able to deal with each bed individually.. It is very frustrating dealing with thistle and, here at least they are prolific bloomers and each tiny seeded is a million more plants it seems. Looking forward to your next video.
good for you. my little space is invaded by bindweed and mares tail, has been for years, but as long as you keep at them you can grow whatever you want. don't sweat it.
You might be interested in Gertrude Frank's book, Companion Planting, Successful Gardening The Organic Way, we learned a lot from this book. We love your style, we think along very similar lines. Hope you're enjoying all the various shows. Best wishes, Steve and Caroline
Hi yup..put erbz in a tub as they only needed in small quantities and you can use the ground space for other things. Great vid thanx 👍 Grapvines are a good thing to grow too.
yep your garlic looks good - actually just slightly better than mine, and I was a bit gutted to find the first signs of rust already on mine a few days ago. How well it holds out from it now will determine if I get a reasonable crop.. or not!
It’s the next few weeks that I’m worried about! I don’t have enough compost to keep potting them all up before I put them in the ground in the poly. But I won’t have the poly cleared for some time yet 😅 Hoping for good bank holiday weather this Monday so I can plant a lot of things out!
Mice! Last year they dug up and ate the pea seeds even after they germinated in the same tray in my polytunnel. I even netted them! 😂 🐭 That’s why they aren’t in my polytunnel this year!
Herbs in pots here and there and use that bed for something else? What favorites do you not have yet? Another fruit tree? Pear underplanted with tulips and hostas? Or do I remember you saying slugs are a problem there? I love sea thrift! It does well here in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. How is your new job going? Everything is looking great. What is the name of that nasturtium like plant? Thanks!🙂
It might stop the annual weeds but the perennial thistle would probably just grow through it! I have bindweed growing through fabric on the mound at the top of my plot 😒
Rather than weeding couldn't you just bury them under a thicc layer of cut grass? I did this in the autumn on my lawn, adding a compost layer under the cut grass, and it worked great; the grass under it was killed and now I have a pea patch. I see it as nodig+mulch.
3:15 I had some dragonfly larva in my outdoor ponds that decimated the guppies, white cloud minnows and tadpoles. I now use a granular stuff that kills mosquito and dragonfly larva. It's fish and frog safe.
Your wonderful growing space looks Wonderful 🙏It is greening up and like my allotment ,each visit I can't wait to see what's growing next of you would like to see my last video it is of a Bluebell Wood ,you are always welcome to pop over 🙋love & light xxxshaz 👋🌿🌱💚🌿
I did a video challenge about telling the stories that come with your plants or seeds. I tagged you and this video. I absolutely love your videos. It would be lovely if you could participate, but no worries if you can't. Plant with a Story is the name of it.
Are you any relation to Kim and Leanne Wormald? Surname will not resonate as its Canadian and don’t know maiden of mum Kim… You look like you could be part of their family.

You have a great size allotment. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy the challenges of next month. Looking forward to see how it turns out.
It’s looking lovely so naturalistic.
Have you tried just covering between weeding and planting to suppress those weeds? Your plot will be full and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

Such lovely videos. Where did you get your Polly tunnel from?
Wow, chickpeas! I'll have to look up how to grow those. I have a few kg of dried ones in the cupboard I never thought of growing.
good for you. my little space is invaded by bindweed and mares tail, has been for years, but as long as you keep at them you can grow whatever you want. don't sweat it.
I liked the upclose shots of the plot.. those tulips are beautiful! I like that hairstyle too and you look like you got some sun. Anyways God bless.
We love looking at the plants. You can show us all.. No biggie...n your garden looks nice
I love your plot! It's so beautiful

Well done you are a busy lady.
yep your garlic looks good - actually just slightly better than mine, and I was a bit gutted to find the first signs of rust already on mine a few days ago. How well it holds out from it now will determine if I get a reasonable crop.. or not!
Very beautiful garden
“Leekroots” 😂 love it.
AWESOME! love what you have done! you have an addicting SMILE! ;p
I really needed that, thank you.
I’m trying chickpeas this year. Green humus sounds good.
There's a frog at 3:24
So jealous of your garlic, I found garlic rust yesterday on mine and had to pull the lot 😔
Another great video 👍🏻
Oh no 😔
Those really large tomatoes look very healthy tho - not spindly. not searching for light. They'll be fine I think!

How come you don't direct sow the peas out in the garden? Transplanting just seems like a lot of extra work!
Mice! Last year they dug up and ate the pea seeds even after they germinated in the same tray in my polytunnel. I even netted them! 😂 🐭 That’s why they aren’t in my polytunnel this year!
Hi Lovely lady Great update love your plot its coming alone nicely Happy Growing :)

Lay weed fabric. Cheap and quick fix
It might stop the annual weeds but the perennial thistle would probably just grow through it! I have bindweed growing through fabric on the mound at the top of my plot 😒
Hi Farand nice beautiful video
Can you do a video showing what you mean by "pinching" your seedlings? I tried googling it and was a bit overwhelmed with different information.
how do you deal with Foxes and Cats digging up beds?
Hi! New viewer here, did you try no dig method before? X
wow! nice garden, I love plants so much, I'm new friend ^^
Nice !

You have the right idea Stephen. No dig is the way to go.😉

I have the same issue with thistles on my plot 😭
My garlic is galloping on ahead of yours hehe,by the way...how come your straberries are in the cages?
