    I've done two provisional cast on methods that both worked well. One is just knitting 2 or three rows in a scrap yarn then continuing with your main yarn. When it's time to take it out, it's a lot easier than taking out the crochet cast on, but I guess it is more time up front. The other way is the crochet cast on where you crochet right onto your knitting needle. I don't remember who made them, but there are good videos about how to do it.

      I came down here to suggest crocheting onto the knitting needle as well!

    I'm soooo grateful that you shared your new armhole finish on the Ingrid top! A couple of hours ago I cast on for the Staple Linen Top by Joji Locatelli. It's very cute but I've been suuuper apprehensive about the armholes; they look a little droopy in the pattern photos. It may not be an issue in the end, but if it is, I'm so glad to have your tips. The stockinette edging looks so tidy and you're totally right that it adds a really beautiful structure to the top.
    I was also a little nervous about the negative/zero ease recommended in the Staple top and was thinking that a bigger size might be better, so it was also really helpful to hear that you went through the same thing with the Ingrid!!!

    Hi Mandy, love your videos! When I make a crochet hook provisional cast on, I make it already in the knitting needle and so there's no need to pick up stitches. Midori Hirose has a great video tutorial here on TH-cam (it's for the Ranunculus top, but the video is public)

      That is how I do it too! Already on the needle - way easier.

    Even though I’m sure it’s frustrating to have to go back and fix mistakes, I absolutely LOVE when you reverse engineer for us ❤ It was so interesting to learn about the provisional cast on having so much impact

    My experience ripping back a summer top is painfully fresh. I spent all day yesterday on it before realising its too wide and had to not only rip out all that progress but rip inches further up to get it right. Thank you for showing me it will be okay in the end 😊

    I love knitting for the process, which is why I mainly knit gifts for family. It’s so relatable to have to rip back and start over, though I enjoyed watching your forensic investigation and problem solving process! Thanks for sharing this update!

    I love fixing old knits that I have made. I've adjusted the length of a few sweater and did different cuffs on my balloon sweater after a while.

    Another lovely podcast! So happy you’re happy with your finished tank, its so important to go back and re make/alter garments when we don’t set them right the first time. I’d been keen to hear your take on the TS concert even if it just on insta reels/stories!! X

    The kfo cotton merino is 100% a favourite summer yarn of mine. I have a ball and some leftover that I want to make a bralette with. Good luck with your dress!!!

    I am so invested in the dress saga, wishing you the best with it. Once again loved the media recs, would be curious to hear your thoughts on Trust once you’re done! Also, 100% agree with the Selling Sunset takes, the Oppenheim twins are my nightmare fuel. Would strongly recommend the Ultimatum: Queer Love if you haven’t watched it yet, the drama is wild

    Hi Mandy, great video as always : ) I just want to let you know that Knitting for Olive coton merino is 70 % coton and 30 % wool so it is more coton than wool. I've wanted to knit the Melides dress for quite some time, waiting to see your final dress to decide if I give it a go :)

    This exact same thing just happened to me with the Melides top?!! My gauge was perfect I was so confused…so I frogged and am knitting two sizes down 🥲

    • @knitsbymandy
      @knitsbymandy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting!! I’m wondering if it may have something to do with gauge changing once making something so much bigger than a swatch 🤔

  • @anglomallorquina5898
    @anglomallorquina5898 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel your gauge pain. (Thankfully not as badly though.)
    I’m knitting the Home camisole by Caidree (top-down, v neck) an my second triangle for the front was about 15% bigger than the first!
    Here’s a little bit of dress knitting motivation: in cooler weather you can layer a summer dress over thick tights/leggings and long sleeve top and maybe throw a cute jacket over the top of that.

    I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the my little secret crop when it’s done! I’m currently knitting the petiteknit cumulus tee in KFO cotton merino held single and I would love to know how it feels held double. You mentioned a lotion-y feeling and I understand what you mean but I really wish I didn’t lol 😅

    Love your courage! BTW, I know you’re pretty settled on the dress pattern, but you should take a look on the Jill’s Dress by Kristina McGowan. The one sample she made in a golden color is the most beautiful dress I’ve seen. I’m rooting for you success girl!

      also, I love doing a judy`s magic cast on, it is fairly easy and you can use a spare circular needles or pair of interchangeable needles to cast on stitches that you need to put on hold. then they can just stay on this needle/cable or be transferred to a stitch holder after you knit couple of rows. afterwards it is also very easy to start knitting with them again. I hope it makes sense :)) I did it on 2,5 mm needles for a bralette, was not easy to count stitches when casting on but, otherwise, all good :)
