@@karvyonholifield8107 if you step on the gas with the car in gear and it doesnt feel like its accelerating the car like it normally does then your clutch is bad. My Ion has 198k miles on the original clutch so I probably wouldnt sweat it.
@@letsplaygamesd3991 I have a manual ion and when i tap the gas in any gear the whole car jerks forward and back. Is it worn suspension or is it a broken trans mount or something? Or clutch related? What do you think
Awesome video...for anybody wondering the exact torque specs according to the factory service manual : Upper Bolt: 66 lb ft. Lower Bolt: 81 lb ft. However I found these bolts to have rust on them (especially the lower one) so i think these torque numbers don't mean too much unless your have everything brand new. At 100 lb ft. I got the lower bolt in 3/4 of the way...
Great video. New sub. Going to change the rear on my vue this weekend. This is so easy and the mechanic told me its a 3 hour job, $300.00 SMH. Thanks would let you know if I broke a nail or not. lol
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Did this on a 2004 Ion. Had to use short socket heads to get onto the bottom bolt. A little tight and awkward to work on, but doable.
Did changing these quiet any clunking going on out back? About to change the rears on my daughters 04 Ion. They are obviously worn, just wondering if they are contributing to some of the noises going on in the rear of the car during spring compression. Great video and thanks
The lower shock bolt on the 04 ion is practically directly behind the rear drum assembly. It's blocking my ability to hit it straight on with an impact. I cant even use a joint to hit it from an angle. And I'm using a jack so I cant get it high enough to get really any leverage. It's rusted pretty bad too. I wish there was a solution short of removing the rear drum. If I had a air ratchet/impact with a short clearance, like on a 90, then I could do it.
good video. Thanks for sharing. The only thing i have to say is that you keep calling the shock absorber a "strut". Struts are usually in the front of the vehicle and is the complete assembly in one package, coil and shock absorber.
about to throw in some Bilstein shocks, and this video is still helpful 10 years later.
It's amazing how easy it is to work on Saturn IONs. Great video.
Agreed
Unless you need to change the clutch God damn that shits tough
@@letsplaygamesd3991 how do Yk if your clutch is weak or about to go out? I have one and I need some advice if you have any

Great video! Just paid $160 to have the rear shocks replaced on my 2002 Kia Rio probably could have done it myself after watching your video Thanks

+Chupria Thank you for these numbers. With all the work I do on my own car, I really need to spend the small amount on a service manual.
Thanks for this. I don't know why people "guesstimate" torque values. Too dangerous to do. If you don't know, don't guess.

What a huge difference in the bounce before and after!
So bro, there are no rear sway bar links correct??
Thank you man you're great , now I know I can doing by my self
Javier Torres np, gl buddy. cheers
Very good video!! Just put in my rear shocks this morning. Thanks
Np, thanks for your comment.

Dude I cant get onto the back lower with a socket and still be able to apply enough leverage to break it free.
Just about to work on an 08 Vue, great video!
Thanks, GL!
Changed the rear shocks on my 2003 Ion and the old ones were much worse.
Is there a bolt on the other side of the bottom bolt? mine has one but is rusted. Do I really need it?
You did an awesome job on this video.
What is the brand of shocks that you used to replace your worn shocks?
You just saved me a ton of money by not taking my car to a shop :)
Do you have a video for changing the springs? I'd like to be able to get them done at the same time as the shocks and could use some pointers.

Isn't there a bolt on the other side of the shock holding the bolt.
Thanks fir this share , it helped me a lot
video on replacing rear shock mounts?

Thanks for video, doing the same on my saturn vue
msatchmo np, gl with the repair. cheers

do you have a video on how to change the starter on a 2007 Saturn ion??
Great video!!
Would this be the same on a 2005 ion 2? Your title says 2006, and the description says 2007....so...
Rene Cervantes yes they should all be very similar if not exactly the same. GL
Good job thank you!!!
would it work on a 2003 saturn ion?
I have a 03 ion

what if i don't have a torque wrench
The damn drum was in the way and it was so difficult removing the bottom bolt.
Lower bolt is 22. Not 21
Im a dyier and i didnt realize it was so easy..youtube is a blesding to me.
my shock is so bad its leaking..
If you don't have a torque wench autozone or advanced auto loads tools out for FREE
Guess.
That's not a strut. Its a shock absorber/damper.
You talk very fast
