@@Deadman1957TEBR u from the U.K? would like to know more about British comics, except for Judge Dredd they are not very available here in the states. Some early Brit comics were tabloid sized? Am I wrong about this?
@@EugeneLorey The majority of British comics were roughly tabloid size, yes you're correct. Comics like Victor, Hotspur, Valiant and the Eagle and many more besides! They told war or sport stories, Eagle was famous for Dan Dare, similar to Flash Gordon, I believe it also had Dr. Who stories. We also had comics like the Beano and the Dandy, which had comedy strips, there were a lot of pretenders to those titles, but the Dandy still has Annuals each year even though the comic stopped in 2013. But the Beano is still going celebrates its 86th anniversary this year, oldest comic in the world. There were 5 particular comics called Fantastic, Terrific, Pow, Smash and Wham! The first two had all Marvel reprints, the other three had one or two Marvel features, the rest had comic sketches similar to the Beano. They quickly all ended up as one title and then that was cancelled. The reason Marvel UK started and brought out there own reprints, in 2 or 3 different size styles. DC comics were also reprinted but that happened more in the 80's, I don't beleive they lasted that long though! I only really collected 2000ad as far as British comics are concerned, I stopped around issue 700 and sold them many years ago! I say British as most comics whatever there style were printed in Scotland, I could be corrected with that statement, but I'm talking about 40 to 60+ years ago so forgive me if I am incorrect on the minutiae of the British comic scene. Just to note there are many, many comics I've not mentioned, like almost pocket sized comics like Commando Digest, war stories, still going, started in 1961, on issue 5770 as of this week! Funnily enough they are published by the same people that publishes the Beano. Google them there's tons of info to learn, if that's your thing!
@@Deadman1957TEB Yes, Thx for the info, I have some Beano's in book form and some Judge Dredd. Some of the tabloid stuff has been coming up on Goodwill auctions and I think I will try to get them as I am a big fan of war comics. I have also been collecting digest sized Euro comics mostly from Italy & Spain but didn't know about Brit digest sized comics. The only digest sized comic we had here in the states was Archie which was mainly read by girls.
