The thing is that most of the people on here are so obviously intelligent and if they had been born in to different circumstances they would have had such a lovely life or at least a far better life. These problems are generational, the lack of example of how to live differently and a Father. Yes they can see other people living a good life but you need the example in your home. The lack of safety and structure is so important. The government should be there to step in for when this goes wrong but that system is flawed because its run as a business not as true care. The true reflection of a society is how they treat the most vulnerable. Doesn't look like we are doing too well on that front. God bless all who are struggling out there! ❤️❤️
@@truthof7382 I personally think nurture has so much to do with it, if you never feel properly loved and safe how can you ever have the self-esteem to do better. Right! She certainly can talk and her communication skills could be valuable in the right situation. Shes thinks from all kinds of perspective and she seems fast learner.

while it is very important it's a small portion of the problem imo, the majority is what you make/want out of life. I came from the mud. I can speak on it. It's an excuse "most" of the time.
And an education system that positions young people for success in life. Starting out set up at a significant disadvantage in America is a huge problem. It’s understandable to feel hopeless being a kid and realizing all at once succeeding isn’t likely. Looking at the choice to work a minimum wage job and hope to get assistance or breaking the law to support yourself isn’t any way of starting a life if you plan on reaching 40 alive or outside prison.

I've seen some comments about inconsistencies. Sometimes when we experience trauma, we have a tendency to suppress or block out certain memories or feelings. Sometimes we dont want to remember certain things, but inconsistencies aren't for us to judge. How can we learn or even help someone if we judge? The most important thing we can do is to listen without judgement.
That is very true💔 some times the brain doesn't function properly cos of all the trauma. There are years i can't remember. Its like all black 🖤 But some people dont know that or stop and think about those things💕
@@Bebedollie yes, I went through trauma too from the time I was 15-23. I still can't remember everything either. Im a nurse and a lot of times the patients I see cannot remember everything. I agree with you 100%. So many comments bashing this woman who literally came abs exposed her skeletons for the world to see . Can we just listen with compassion and empathy anymore? Or do we have to say she’s lying about HER life story- shit she’s numb to lying to the men who pick her up it’s no big deal to her anymore. I feel bad for her having lived in foster homes myself.
Devon is a bright, beautiful woman. I see a lot of comments about "she should be model" - an industry full of prostitution, drugs, and hyper self-consciousness. That's a precarious environment for someone trying to get their life together
Right, slim line from profession and prostitution when the same thing happens based on stereotype. I pray she finds a friend who loves and supports her transition to the top
These attitudes are very myopic and narrow. It is not at what Devon sells that is the problem. It's the 'working the street ' and all the danger and drug abuse that goes with that. I have never actually used any of these services. But we have broad societal problems in the western world creating a real need for them. We have, where I live , a 'no fault ' divorce culture. There are a lot of lonely men, usually middle aged men, looking for female companionship. Legalizing a regulated industry is the right way to go. With protections for people. Not criminalization.
yeah, she's got all those qualities. its like having a beautiful Lamborghini that society arbitrarily decided would function as a taxi. where is the point where we can make a turn around? how can we change? or at least change how we act in the face of some horrible beliefs and self image.
It's weird how often people say, "Wow. This woman is beautiful! She deserves a chance!" Is this supposed to sound KIND in some way? As if she wouldn't deserve anything if she lost her looks? Really, it's just commodifying her all over again. How fucked up is that?
its biology. People with symetrical, proportional features ie. what most cultures consider "attractive". I had one of the best fathers in the world. My parents were married and stayed together. I still picked losers. Bad choices can happen to any and all of us.
We pick people based on our learned attachment model, most of it subconscious. We confuse attachment with love. Most of us grow up as obedient children who idealize our parents because as kids we have no choice but to choose attachment over authenticity. Our wounds mostly stay hidden but they are clearly visible in the cycles we repeat in our lives. It's painful to become conscious of them and I'd argue everyone has loads of unprocessed shame, grief, and aggression beneath the surface. We western people all live in a trauma-based society and our parents weren't real adults but grown wounded children.

I can't stop watching this channel for some reason and it's not because I need to judge others to feel better about myself. I watch for the human condition! I work with Batterers in Domestic Violence cases and I know that they are the reasons that these ladies are in the condition and place mentally that they are. Fathers are NEEDED gentlemen... Anyone can have sex and create life, but it takes a REAL man to step up and be a father. Devon and the countless others on here like: Paradise, Chyna and etc are telling you exactly why they do this line of work! And yet we sit back and judge them, because it makes us feel better. We sit in the comfort of our homes or offices and view this as entertainment! NO! This is real life, real conditions and real people! They are not characters in a television show or movie, they are ever day people that got TRAPPED in a cycle of loss and hurt. It destroys me every time I view this channel, but at the same time this channel is a blessing. I actually showed my men in my Batterers group the interview with Chyna and all the jokes and comments went silent! They recognized that they are doing to their wives and kids, the same thing that her father did to them. And the fact that she started prostituting at 13 years of age destroyed them, because most of them have daughters around the same age. I have participated in events like "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" and I only thought of the Victims of Domestic Violence and that was it. But when Devon said, "Instead of judging us, try to walk a mile in our shoes" I died inside. Because the truth of the matter is that we don't see these women as ladies any longer. Men use them for SEX and ABUSE and women view them as trash. Look, these ladies would not be in this condition if people simply stopped PURCHASING SEX!!! The consumer is the problem, not the women providing the service! Lastly, I would like to say THANK YOU to Devon for bringing a new point of view to me. No woman should wake up daily and think that it would be better if she were dead and I thank the Universe that this woman is still standing because she has a light and desire that could/can help others. Lastly, she is correct when she discusses how black women are treated and also how PRETTY doesn't pay the bills. Devon, if you are out there and ever read this, I would like to say THANK YOU a millions times over and I will be playing your story for my guys in group to let them know that Fathers are needed and it starts with THEM.
You know we cannot fix this society by blaming fathers. If we legalize prostitution it would put the end of Pimps and it would cut down on human trafficking. How about curing homelessness, the cure for this is in the word. Homes! Arrange for permanent housing pay a decent wage for work and take the stigma of having been in prison there are many things wrong with this society. You want to stop human trafficking stop the greed of those who do this. Gangs and the Mob make good money doing this. Stop the demand for this product of humans suffering.
@@jimvacuum If prostitution was legalized pimps would own brothels. I don't see how it would cut down on trafficking. They would just funnel women and children into legal brothels. You would actually make it easier for them. They would never have to do this work illegally ever again.

I know a woman who is a prostitute. She grew up in an upper middle class family. Her parents have been married for all of her life and then some. She grew up with a brother and both parents and had a tight knit family (I’ve known her for a long time.) Her parents paid for her college, bought her car, funded her life until she graduated and got a job. She had every opportunity. She was a sorority girl and is absolutely beautiful. After graduation, she decided to get into prostitution because she saw she could make a lot more money. I don’t judge and never would. But I think because she didn’t have to do this, she will someday regret the decisions she made. Anyway, hearing this woman’s story is pretty heartbreaking. Like, what else could she have done? She grew up in an environment where she had no options. Completely different from the woman I know who had every opportunity in the world.

This is so painful to hear. The denial of ones own trauma is heartbreaking.
I'm medium complexion, growing up Devon would be considered "light-skinned", "high yellow" etc. The darker-skinned kids and light-skinned were always going at it, most of the time just fun jokes but it got nasty at times. I was always in the middle and never had one thing said about my complexion but admittingly I would make both light and dark-skinned jokes as well. To hear that someone with Devon's complexion was ostracized by people who were lighter than her shows how prevalent colorism is in the black community and frankly how much worse its gotten.
It was always "worse" and only recognized more. That ignorance remains today were kids are treated based on how dark or light they are and rap music pathetically endorses & sensationalizes it. Another reason why a lot black men are obsessed with white or light skinned women. Self hate is for real.
I don't believe that at all I live in a neighborhood that is black and Hispanic and I never hear anything bad about being dark skinned most men in my neighborhood seek very dark skinned woman out this is NYC btw I don't know about the rest of country..

It’s incredible how profound and intelligent the people in these interviews are despite the environments they grew up in. Despite not being shown love this woman loves her daughters more than herself, the human heart is beautiful
You can tell she's highly intelligent. The way she processes, categorizes, and learns quickly are all at the high end of the IQ bell curve, especially at her age. Most people cannot spot manipulation when you're being abused. The good news for her: she's very young, she understands and values time, and she's hit rock bottom. That's what it takes to really make a dramatic and positive change in life.
You would be unstoppable if you believed in yourself! Sweetheart, I’m 6’2 just like you and also a black woman (ethiopian/american) and I absolutely LOVE it! There are soooo many opportunities when you’re tall and beautiful as you are! Don’t sell yourself short. You can do it! Wish you the best!
Her look reminds me of the scene in the movie Columbiana when she dressed up and went to jail. Beautiful woman but no optimism or push what so ever. If only she wouldve used her drive and knowledge in a different way.
Devon's sensitivity and clarity is so very compelling to me. My heart goes out to her. Her parents, her family, and society have done her a terrible disservice. She's intelligent, caring and hardworking... She deserves to feel confident in her her own beautiful skin. I hope her future brings her some help and her kids back to her. All she needs is a few years of a new normal where she gets to control her own body, doesn't have to feel fear all the time, and can take care of her precious babies, then she'll be straight for life. She's precious and she deserves a better life. And her kids deserve a better life with Mommy. Devon, my heart is with you. 💜
I've watched a lot of these videos and this one really got to me. She is so intelligent and carries herself so well that if someone would give her a chance she could excel at anything. I've seen so many of these videos where the person is so drugged out that they don't make sense or speak so poorly that most places wouldn't hire them just because of how they present themselves. This woman could go far if given the chance. I'm sure if she came into enough money to relocate somewhere where no one knows her past she could do amazing. If she could get a job and get on her feet she could go to college and get really far in life. I really hope one of the places she applies gives her a chance so she can get her kids back and get out of her situation

Its a blessing and a curse depending on my perspective at any given time. I didn't have a support system so I had to figure it out mostly on my own. No one cared to asked how I was doing and when I tried to tell anyone...no one seem to give a fuck. Despite that.. I managed to do well for myself given the circumstances. Some people didn't have it as good as me. I hear some of these stories and it way worse than the cards I been dealt. I sometimes ask, what would make a person do this or do that...and the answer is there(when you ask). So I guess I'm saying I can empathize with some of the situations. I gain greater understanding with each video. The people Mark interviews come from all different ways and walks of life. Preacher, sex offender, addicts, Klan members, drug dealers, homeless, gunshot victims, gangsters, inbreeds etc... Not everyone he interviews is a victim or a victimizer. For the victimizers most of them were victims themselves(I not saying its right). It seems to be a common thread and you can find it if you care to in these interviews. I see you saying he is give a platform to someone that beats women... Oddly enough I see you condemning someone soul to eternal damnation. I think to myself what is worse...beating the shit out of someone unjustly or sending them to hell? On top of that he is NOT the one hurting anyone. I think further.. and say maybe a pimp beat his(your) mom or maybe he was violated as a child. I don't know (not my business). But these interviews give me a perspective to even care to ask and understand of why some people may feel a way about other people. Rather Heaven or hell exist. I don't know but one thing for sure is Skidrow is hell on Earth to anyone stuck there. He is hell now trying to pull some out. So he is already burning and being refined as gold.
Mark does a phenomenal job capturing these peoples entire stories and emotions in just the photograph alone. You almost don’t even need the commentary. Don’t get me wrong, I’m here for listening to them tell their stories, but just the photograph alone can tell the whole story. And that, is a truly gifted photographer. Thank you Mark for your work. You can leave this earth when it’s your time knowing you left your “mark” on the world.
@HL McCullough You are clearly missing the whole point. And I wasn’t commenting on his work of “sitting there listening “. I was admiring his photography, which a lot of work does go into. Not anyone can pick up a camera and get the shots he does, especially without just picking up a phone, snapping a picture, throwing a few filters on it and calling it good.
@HL McCullough you sound hella moronic. Sometimes thats all someone needs. For someone else to listen to them so they can articulate what is going on w themselves & become aware of it so they are able to address it head-on later on. To you, Mark just sitting there listening & doing nothing, but to this woman it means everything. God forbid Mark did what he does for people as narrow-minded as you. Maybe youre just envying that Mark is a good listener because he actually gives a fuck. More than anyone else has in her adult life. Grow up.
@HL McCullough It's not easy to get people to tell you even part of their truth, even for money. There's a certain amount of trust involved. You try it and see how well you do & how far you get.
I believe in you Devon!! I'm in college for psychology and you're story moved me. I think a long term housing facility with a detox and rehabilitation center would be really beneficial. Especially if the housing was a community setting with individual homes for each member. That way mothers in this life can have their children with them in a stable home with resources available to them. If this happened, woman like you would be given jobs helping other prostitutes off the streets because your story gives you knowledge that no one else has. The services the gov has available feel like bandaids...and you need more. It would be great to be that "man" who saves you from this life, but instead, a service like this would just help you save yourself. 🌸
She's gorgeous and very well spoken. You can tell that after all the pain she's been through, she has a big heart. It's just been broken in a million pieces 💔
I'm seeing so many comments talking about how visually beautiful she is and they're not actually seeing how much she's talking... compared to the other women on this platform, who's really going through it. They're not talking as much as she is trying to make u understand something. People make mental judgements visually instead of watching with their ears! She's throwing everybody under the bus but herself. She said, "I lost my girls for depending on someone else that wasn't there".... Y'all only see her "beauty" you don't see anything else. Something smells fishy about this one....j/s
I'd get my ass a JOB and get busy ..She is pretty, leave the men alone and start planning...High value men are not found in cheap hotels and stuff..Focus on yourself.

@@Louisiana1Manshow Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think most people would say, “you’re blind.” She would be pretty, dressed very conservatively.
@Stevie Woo She already said she has offers from nice men to "rescue" her. She said she turns them down because she doesnt want to bring trouble in their life. In other words, she likes the street life more, and she prefers bad boys.
She claims she was kidnapped then says the hospital can't tell her what put her in a coma. Some b.s. there. That said, she's young and confused. Very low self esteem. And man, can she talk!! Likeable person, wishing her the best.
This girl has been through so much shit in her life, she's hit rock bottom, yet she's still sitting there smiling, being positive and trying so hard to get out of the life she's currently caught in. Talk about being strong and genuine. I can't imagine what it's like to live the life she does day in and day out, but I really hope she finds a way out of the lifestyle real fast!

"The only thing left to take from me is my life 💔" that's heartbreaking. I really hope many doors of opportunity open up for this young lady, it's clear she wants better for herself and her kids
I hear the same story on this channel. The interviewees always seem to blame other ppl or say “people won’t help.” 🗣 HELP YOURSELF!! No one is coming to save you and your kids. SAVE YOURSELF!
Exactly, Mystical Misfit. Pretty Woman is fiction. Ain’t nobody gonna show up and rescue you! You plant your own garden instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers!
I wish more people thought that way. It's better that she runs away like she said than to break someone. So many people are broken and just hurt others. They don't know how to love them.
This is the only interview that touched me, she didn’t glorify the life, and she was vulnerable enough to show her true emotions. She needs to understand how beautiful of a soul she is. Articulate, intelligent, and she has kind spirit. I wish little mama the best in life… May you find the peace you seek lil mama.
This poor woman just needed someone who would listen to her. She needs a hand and I think she’s turn it into what she needs in life. I pray she’s able to succeed.
She sounds like she has a real good heart, she thinks about others, outside of all the pain she went through in her life and that is applaudable. She has a soft heart for the man she loves and that's her downfall. She is beautiful and I hope her love for her daughters continue to motivate her to get out that life. she is intelligent enough and has much insight about life and that's the only support she needs.
This woman is incredible and amazing and I wish I could do something tangible to help her and her girls to get her on on the path she deserves. She’s already an inspiration ❤
You are beautiful and articulate. You can do anything you put your mind to do....trust in the Lord. Seek help, do better for your girls.....I will be calling your name in Prayer.
Omg she has so much potential. She is absolutely gorgeous and you can tell she’s smart and knows how to talk. With the right support, she can absolutely go far in life. I’m really rooting for her.

You know what ! I literally had that same strange feeling ... Like idk I wish her the best of luck & her precious baby girls ... But I kinda noticed that there was quite a few discrepancies idk I'm not judging the young lady I'm just saying for some reason I had those same thoughts.. anyway I sincerely hope all is well for her and her children.
@BabyChainGang Why are you making up falsehoods? Mark is clean as whistle & has never tried drugs. He said in one of the Sharp interviews he’s never used prostitutes and that’s consistent with his intelligence & self-discipline; both demonstrated in cranking out these impressive videos like clockwork. As far as helping, I don’t think one man could possibly do more & some of it has been documented on this channel. So you’re lying through your teeth. Clearly, the “joke” and the “problem” is you.
God damn. Life is so fucking unfair. This girl is so fucking beautiful and so fucking smart and mature and so fucking talented, for her to feel depressed so often.....that's so beyond fucked up. I hate how some of the best people are basically incapable of realizing how amazing they are. I just wanted to climb through the screen and give her the biggest hug.

Pretty people struggle in life too. It's weird equating her appearance with her worth.
I am finding that weird too. People seem to feel if you look good your life should be better. The myth of beauty pushed by the media.

Tremendously capable, articulate, attractive spirit. So understandable that she would be upset and angry given her family-or lack thereof-circumstances. Thank you for these deeply human interviews. So helpful to have a glimpse into people we see on the street who we might not ever talk to, or worse… people we might objectify as a “that prostitute” or whatever. Interviews like this help us understand, empathize, and and feel some compassion for. So important to acknowledge and respect each of our paths. We all suffer. This interview is one of your best! I really enjoyed hearing Devon's story - the way you allow all your story tellers to portray their own stories - you never control the depiction of their narratives - this is probably why I love watching SWU so much - other than how wonderful it is to 'meet' all the characters whose stories you share with us - it's just 'written' so well! & Devon she's so wise! Devon you deserve the absolute world! Both you and your girls!
Literally she could get paid to do speaking engagements and share her life story. She is so beautiful and well spoken like literally I wish her so many blessings. I hope everything works out.
Watch her update.
Some like being it and some have to be it

She was one of six, that would be hard on anyone let alone an elderly woman

It’s heartbreaking to hear them say they had a “really good childhood” when physical abuse was part of their normal. When she says that it was hard to be a good kid because of the neighbourhood when really, it was hard to be a good kid when you didn’t get the love you needed. ☹️ And the rejection of the grandmother sending the child off to the foster care system where they are likely to be even more exploited and taken advantage of?

This was well said! #nailed
It's so sad, there's so much to overcome already, and then there's the hostility of their peers on top of it all!
It was always "worse" and only recognized more. That ignorance remains today were kids are treated based on how dark or light they are and rap music pathetically endorses & sensationalizes it. Another reason why a lot black men are obsessed with white or light skinned women. Self hate is for real.

I've watched a lot of these videos and this one really got to me. She is so intelligent and carries herself so well that if someone would give her a chance she could excel at anything. My mom started smoking crack when I was 2 years old and left me and my siblings for weeks on end (come back then leave etc) until I was 9 and has emotionally/physically/mentally abused me ever since. My father came out of prison when I was 13 and although had been sending letters over the years to say how great a parent he’d be when he gets out, he instead got married and doesn’t speak to me for years on end. I have felt totally worthless in my childhood (I am now 24) and unworthy of love. Only recently I figured out, although they ‘made’ me (carelessly) I only need to be a product of them biologically. I am my own person. Worthy. Loveable. Beautiful (inside). It’s crazy to grow up feeling like the people that are supposed to love you most literally give zero fucks about you and disrespect you at any given chance. If my parents don’t love me who will?

She is beautiful, intelligent, well spoken & more. She has to have a chance. Pls do a follow up on her later on.
I admire this young woman plus she's gorgeous n smart. God bless you and stay strong
Her biggest problem has been that punk who fathered her daughters.
This woman is incredible and amazing and I wish I could do something tangible to help her and her girls to get her on on the path she deserves. She’s already an inspiration ❤
I enjoy these interviews so much! I’m always amazed that Mark somehow manages to get them to talk for almost an hour with minimal interruption
Pretty. Interesting interview. Any dishonesty is understandable. She’s got a long road ahead of her
I believe dishonesty is one of her early coping methods. Sad.
You are beautiful and articulate. You can do anything you put your mind to do....trust in the Lord. Seek help, do better for your girls.....I will be calling your name in Prayer.
Very concise. I like that!
What do you feel is dishonest?
Good point
She is beautiful and so articulate!! Girl, move out of state, go to school, and start your life! You can do it!!!!! You are still young.
I agree. She needs money to move and go to school so that’s the hard part.
She is the most knowledgeable person I’ve seen on this show. I respect her.
Omg she has so much potential. She is absolutely gorgeous and you can tell she’s smart and knows how to talk. With the right support, she can absolutely go far in life. I’m really rooting for her.
Seems like a good person but something is not right I think this lady is trying to hustle mark.
Everyone is trying to hustle everyone. The church lady routine is just a different level of hustle. Noone is really that person. But everyone has to play the role.
@BabyChainGang How has he been exposed?
@@e.priest8937 not everyone!
I cried listening to her story. I want to be her Mom, auntie, big sister.......support for someone who seeks it should be available!! ❤
