Those who can afford EV cars already have them or can get them. Cutting $2k or $5K in cash or incentive credit of $35k or $45k is still too expensive for the masses. A good and reliable family car such as Camry or Accord is less than $30k.
I want the Model Y long range rear wheel drive - which was announced in Europe. I do not need 4 wheel drive nor rapid acceleration. Longer range and less money - yes.
I know there’s a handful of reasons but I have to say I am convinced that the EV insurance increase issue is playing a part on the decline in EV sales and that’s not just for Tesla. All the people I know say to me I am not getting an EV as the insurance is too expensive now, my company are experiencing this issue now they have EVs and premiums are going up. A taxi driver last week said his premium renewal has doubled! My partner has wanted to get an MG EV her current ICE Fiesta is £180 and the quote for the MG was £550 so she’s keeping the Fiesta. How does this encourage adoption and help the planet? Something needs sorting out before it kills the entire market! I am in the UK but hearing this issue from others in other countries aswell 😢
Uhm.... The price (MY) is $3k MORE than it was a week ago, not $2k less. Inventory discounts went away.
I can confirm. I’m picking up a Y next Friday and they emailed last night the price went down 2k.
Here in Las Vegas, USA, three weeks ago I was looking at $29k Mazda CX-5 but could purchase a $32k Tesla Model Y after tax credit instant rebate. The $3k difference meant I should just go for a Tesla Model Y. However, the cheapest Tesla Model Y on Tesla's website is now $35k. A $6k difference! So, I have changed my mind and shall not be purchasing a Tesla. They are too expensive at the moment and have gone up in price from three weeks ago, not down as this video suggests.
So in NZ you can buy a new rav4 hybrid for $50k in NZ. A dual motor model Y is a grand under $80k. Unfortunately you won’t burn $10k of gas in 3 years let alone $30k. Then you have depreciation which for EV’s is terrifying. Don’t get me wrong. I have a Tesla, but my next car….as an economic decision, it’s hard to justify.
NZ seems to have dropped the Model Y by $2000nz maybe couple of weeks ago. I don't follow the other model prices but I noted this one. It was basically 70k drive away now 68k drive away.
Did it happen yesterday? Is that why the stock fell?
This goes straight to trading margin - I agree they are great value but I’d love to see the GM on manufactured cost on these - the numbers include things like environment credits so where the actual base is fascinates me.
Seems natural for a company to reduce prices when the Fed is not doing rate cuts.
Reduce the unit price to keep the factory operating at optimum efficiency churn rate (I.e. high)
NZ has come up with a system where you buy credits for kms traveled in EVs instead of paying tax at the petrol pump I do hope Australia is smarter than that.
There’s no price drop here in the UK and there’s not much choice in Tesla’s inventory stock which suggests that their cars are selling OK. I’m not surprised that the Model Y has been discounted in the US as there’s refreashed version coming.
The model Y in the UK is way more expensive than Europe or US or AUS. The interest rate on model 3 is nearly 10% 😂 it’s insane. EVs are unbuyable new in the UK outside of business leases

How about the UK???? Had the same high high prices for a year now while we watch Europe, China and the US get price cuts every month or two!
Lower prices for ALL EV's is a win/win for consumers and the Planet!! IF Robotaxis work then that could be a needle shifter in Urban areas!!!
One thing I haven't seen mentioned by anyone yet is that the enhanced autopilot option has disappeared from the order page. Also FSD is now 8k. So do you now have to get FSD for enhanced autopilot features?
My buddy Bought a MY a year ago for 55k. Now it's 42k? Make that make sense? That's F* Up!
