Wow, frozen watermelon on a hot day sounds like the ultimate refreshment! Catching it at that perfect stage-cold but not rock solid-really does hit differently, especially when you're out working in the heat. And 80 watermelons last summer? That’s next-level dedication to staying cool and hydrated! Thanks for sharing such a fun and relatable story!
Exactly! It’s easy to take the food on our tables for granted without thinking about the hard work and effort that goes into producing it. From the farmers planting the seeds to the workers harvesting and processing, every bite comes with a story of dedication and labor. It’s so important to pause and appreciate the journey behind our meals!
"Growing your own watermelon and cantaloupe patch sounds amazing, but I hear you on the grass-it’s relentless! Keeping it under control can feel like a full-time job. Mulching might be your best friend here, or even a good old-fashioned hoe. Hats off to you for putting in the work-it’s so worth it when you get to enjoy those sweet, homegrown fruits!
I picked watermelons in the 70's. I respect the great people that do this kind of work! Think of them when u bite into another fruit or vegetable. I bet a brown hand held it first.
Your story is so admirable! It is true that work like picking watermelon or any other fruit is not easy, but it plays an extremely important role in order for us to have delicious food on the table. Take a moment to be grateful for the hard-working hands that made it happen - and as you say, it was likely a strong brown hand that touched it first. Thank you for sharing such a meaningful perspective!
More often than not you'll want to wait until a stem is brown as opposed to green before you harvest a melon for optimal ripeness but these guys have to make sure their produce stays fresher longer than a backyard gardener so I can see where he's coming from.
You're absolutely right! Waiting for the stem to turn brown is a great tip for backyard gardeners aiming for peak ripeness. But when it comes to large-scale farming, farmers often have to strike that balance between ripeness and shelf life to ensure the produce stays fresh during transportation. It's such an interesting difference in approach-both are all about making the most of these delicious melons!
Absolutely! The journey from farm to table is truly incredible, and the effort behind every watermelon is something we should all appreciate. From the farmers planting and tending the fields to the harvesters and distributors, it’s a fascinating process that makes every bite even more special. Cheers to all the hardworking folks making it happen! 🍉👏
Harvesting millions of tons of watermelon is a huge task, and it’s incredible to see the skill and technology behind it! From field to market, the care and efficiency that go into ensuring each watermelon is perfect is truly impressive. A great example of modern farming!
"Wow, starting in the watermelon fields at 14-that’s amazing! 🍉 It must have been such a rewarding experience to work so closely with nature and see all the hard work that goes into growing these delicious fruits. Thanks for sharing your story-it's clear you have a deep love for what you do! ❤️
Man, do I love eating watermelons, I have one problem, selecting the perfect melon is like playing the lottery, sweet or tasteless one never knows until you cut one open! 🍉
Ah, the eternal watermelon dilemma-picking the perfect one! 🍉 It really can feel like a lottery sometimes. But hey, when you do land that sweet, juicy melon, it’s all worth it, right? Here’s a tip: look for a creamy yellow spot (it’s been sunbathing!) and give it a tap-the deeper the sound, the sweeter the fruit. Hope your next one’s a jackpot!
Right? Life without watermelon would be unthinkable! 🍉 It’s the ultimate summer treat-sweet, refreshing, and just pure happiness in every bite. Here’s to all the watermelon lovers out there keeping the world a little juicier!
@mikco99 What a big issue to ponder. Agricultural work, especially watermelon harvesting, actually depends heavily on immigrant labor. Without them, the entire industry could be seriously affected. Thank you for providing such an important perspective! Let's discuss more in the comments section!
i'm 65 years old and i just sat through this 1.5 hour agricultural machinery and couldn't stop watching. Agricultural machinery is very modern. I wish in my time there were modern technological machinery to improve labor production capacity. Since ancient times we have farmed using hand tools. I admire young scientists who create perfect quality products. I hope you also enjoy the fruits of your hard work. . Well done guys
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It’s amazing to hear your perspective, and I can truly understand how incredible it must be to witness such advancements after years of traditional farming. The innovation in agricultural machinery is truly inspiring, and it’s a testament to how far technology has come to support farmers. We also hope that these developments continue to make life easier and more efficient for everyone. Your appreciation for the hard work behind these technologies is very much shared, and we're so glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm 68 and Speaking of Modern Machinery, My Family used to have an Egg Farm. We had a Man that delivered our chicken feed using a Big truck with an auger system on the back. My Dad had a small tractor with a front end loader on it that would go between the rows of cages and he's use it to clean manure out the Houses. One day, he and the Feed truck Driver were standing there talking and the Feed truck Driver commented "You know, my Dad would never use anything like that Tractor, he had too much Pride". My Dad responded "Well, I don't know about YOUR Dad but I give my Dad credit for having enough Intelligence that he would have used anything he could afford to make his job easier, had it been available". I have Friends who grow watermelons and when the melons are ready to harvest, someone will go through the fields and stand the ones that are ready up on end. Then they do like the guys in the video and throw the melons by hand to someone in the trailer, who stacks them . Then they'd take them out of the Field and transfer them to the trucks of whomever they sold them. I don't know about now but the last time I talked to one of them (about 10 years ago), he said that they were usually bought by someone like HEB or Brookshire's and the Farmer was paid about $1.00 a Piece. So when you pay $6.00 for the Melon, it's NOT the Farmer making a Fortune.
@@rodneyferguson446 That is true of every product a farmer grows. Corn, Beans, Peas, Cotton, Grain and any thing you can thing of that grows. Today Cotton is selling for $0.75 per lb. Back in the 1960's it was around $0.55 per lb. Tractors cost probably around $10K while today $250K.

I hauled a load of melons from Georgia to Bloomington, Ind.
That’s awesome! Hauling melons across states is no small task-it’s a crucial part of getting fresh produce to communities far and wide. Huge respect for the hard work you do to keep the supply chain moving! Georgia melons are known for their amazing quality, so I’m sure the folks in Bloomington appreciated that load. Thanks for sharing, and stay safe on the road! 🚛🍉
