    As ever, highly informative, especially considering the brevity of the video. I hope that viewers can appreciate the quality of information you're giving out and the skill you're demonstrating. More please.

      dbwrc Thank you for the kind words. This is only the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more to explain how elbows are used against pressure, interchangeably with other shapes, and of course footwork (which is key here). We'll do these in time, but there is so much to cover in a week. Thanks again.

    Sir, you are what I think of when I think of a sensei or sifu
    Smiling, gentle, friendly, composed, helpful, compassionate. That is what you communicate in your videos, at least to me.
    Oh, did I neglect to mention highly skilled and competent? Yet you never come across as violent, vindictive, arrogant, mean, or intimidating.
    You seem to be the quintessential martial arts teacher.
    Vast respect. Your students are very lucky people

    Really fantastic videos Sifu Phillips! You have a great, progressive approach to Wing Chun with no compromise to the system, but rather an expansion on its core concepts and realistic application. Thanks for sharing the results of your hard work with us.

    Thank you for sharing! I've always followed your videos as I find them helpful. There's a lot of inferior Wing Chun/Wing Tsun videos out there even from some so called Sifu's that's why we get thrashed by a lot of keyboard warriors but you guys are one of the good ones I follow. Thank you for your hard work. One thing probably you can improve on is make the other person move or react as in reality the person regardless of his skill will react to your technique so it changes the dynamics. Isn't it that Wing Chun is about sensitivity and reaction as the situation presents itself? Keep up the good work and Thanks again! Ed

    Another cracking video! Please keep them coming. Great to see solid practical wing chun well explained. Couple of things I would like to see featured: more tips on practicing the forms(especially chum kui). Also something on dealing with grappling. Wing chun gets flack for being smashed by bjj time and again in mma(Joe Rogan calls wing chun a "debunked style"). How about a response? What about a wing chun answer to classic self defense scenarios such as rear grab, a choke hold and a side guillotine? Keep up the good work. Cheers!

      Ralph Lee Thank you for the kind words Ralph. The grappling question sounds interesting. As we teach a lot of San Shou here as well. We have planned a video on leg (kick) catches, but we could extend that to grappling as well. Great ideas, especially the self defence aspect of being grabbed. We'll have a think about how to get these ideas on film, so we'll certainly add them to the list. Thanks again.

    Too bad you don't have an online course! How long does wing chun typically take to learn the basic fundamentals and hand movements compared to combat styles such as Silat or Krav Maga? If solo practicing what is a good way to self teach and learn? Love all your videos! You break them down effectively!

    I bet that the good use of elbows could be a decisive factor in many fights.

    • @fightscience
      @fightscience  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gerald Rubin I agree and they are used effectively in many martial arts as well as in MMA. Which is a great testament. In my opinion, grabbing and elbowing is extremely effective and confusing to deal with.

    • @geraldmrubin
      @geraldmrubin 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The London Wing Chun Academy Most people are not expecting elbows. When I had to stop going to my Shaolin Kung Fu class, I learned about Wing Chun on the internet and immediately saw that advantage of Wing Chun elbows as well as the general strategy of fighting in the trapping range.

    • @fightscience
      @fightscience  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerald Rubin You make a valid point that most people don't expect elbows strikes. I guess they can be well hidden and not telegraphed until the last minute if you use the trapping strategy.

    Master Mark I have a question in respect to the elbow strike technique. When returning from my short range strike too my long range strike too regain my position how should my footing be ,and in this technique can I utilize any leg attack as well. Thank you

    • @fightscience
      @fightscience  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kevin Roland good question. You definitely need to have a leg forward when elbowing, as for leg techniques. Personally I prefer knees and leg locks with elbows. They compliment each other better.

      Wing chun also has leg kicks so most like has defense for that also he's not a wing chun purist so defense from Sanda and MMA.

    there are no better or best elbow strikes, no one knows what is going to happen 1st and you may use a backfist and not an elbow it all depends on the other person's position and a few other dynamics!
