Gibiate? More like gibbering animal (which is the only explanation as to how something so awesome could be fucked up so badly; the production comittee was composed of them).
The harem actually makes me feel more bad for the girl who he "loves" than the guy. Imagine finding out the guy who you planned to marry slept with 3+ girls behind your back.
Not just that, but the message the writers sent was "if you live your life as a prude, you're definitely gonna get cheated on." Like. As a woman who stayed a virgin til marriage because of my own personal values, that feels pretty crappy. Also, the other message the writers sent was "no consequences for cheaters, yay!" I truly, *genuinely* feel sorry for Geoff for forcing himself to watch any of Peter Grill. I was lied to years ago when the MonMusu anime was just out that "Peter Grill was just a more fantasy genre styled Monster Musume." and made it all of two and maybe a couple pages into chapter 3 when I just went "Fuck this series." Imagine my surprise when I heard it was getting animated. Happy New Year to you and Yazy.
Peter Grill was one of the first anime that made me so uncomfortable that I dropped it. I've seen some trashy stuff, and I slogged my way through it in the vain hope that it would get better, but this one I couldn't do. I thought it going to be about how Peter would fight off the women because he was devoted to the one girl. Hell, he even entered and won a world-wide competition against the strongest people on the continent so that her father would finally give his approval. Then he spends every episode two, three and even five timing this girl that he allegedly wants to spend his life with. Geoff was right, this guy isn't a victim, he's a legitimately terrible person with no sense of honor, commitment or self control. Most bad anime characters either have their behavior explained with a scarring past but this guy is just a scumbag
Peter Grill aka NTR the series. I can't believe out of the hundreds of series im reading right now, they choose peter grill as a series to make an anime out of. More over they didn't even keep the fan service? Literally the only real point of that series, "not quite porn with a story(?)"

@@e-memes808 I'll freely admit I haven't watched it at all, but a lot of it sounds like it stems from cultural differences between Japan and Western cultures, mostly in that Japan hasn't got circa 2,000 years of Judeo-Christian sexual guilt woven into its cultural makeup, which leads to some very different attitudes about sex and relationships. Japan is a country where mixed nude bathing is unremarkable, but a married couple might not hold hands in public because it is "too embarrassing". I'm not saying either version is better or worse, but it would probably at least make a lot more sense if you were Japanese, or at least better versed in that culture. Similarly, a lot of Japanese are HORRIFIED about the content of some Western media, which we find pretty unremarkable, especially when it comes to depiction of violence
@@talltroll7092 There is no mixed nude bathing in Japan, and they are far more conservative and repressive about sex, especially for women. And no, married couple holding hands is not "too embarassing". Children frequently hold hand without any romantic entanglements. They also don't find depiction of violence horrifying. I don't think you have any idea how Japan actually works from anywhere other than questionable anime. Which is a really bad depiction since it suggests that a girl would get raped twice every week in Tokyo, that the Yakuza is actually some kind of cool, that there are no law enforcement you can turn to, and that every woman sound like a teenage girl with one of 5 voices, and every man talks like they are giving a pep talk or yelling at their dad. But no, it has nothing to do with cultural differences between Japan and Western cultures. Japanese would find Peter just as detestable.

"make the strongest baby possible" I'm stealing this idea to make a slice-of-life anime where the protag is a "100% Life Speedrunner." It will have such an incredibly niche audience, I'll call it like, 'Nich-Ecchi" or something and it's all told in like, 3rd Person by Protag in the future. Imagine it, "So, we chose to move towards the C-Section birthing option, it's faster and we can later use this to help in a later questline for our mother. We fuss a little so that the doctor slips and drops us, then we use the amniotic fluid to slide waaaay over here because our EXP modifier is almost 300% at this level. This boosts our athletics so we don't have to train it later on." No one will like it and causes 100% gamer rage, killing me instantly.
This actually sounds really fun. Like some outlandish and somewhat edgy setup that Heaven now only accepts people with record-breaking "life score", so the protagonist eternally repeats his whole life (Re:Zero with no checkpoints?) breaking his own records to try and win his way into the afterlife.

I refuse to believe that "muff-kun" and "smile stick" weren't on purpose. Some Japanese script writer really insisted on those names and all his coworkers were really confused as to why he wanted them in the show so badly.
Sometimes I wonder how shows like these even get green-lit when there are countless manga, light novels, webtoons or even unlicensed web novels that are a thousand times more interesting and also far more popular.
I'm only SLIGHTLY upset that you didn't mention that the Shadowverse anime is a yugiou knockoff rather than an adaptation of the ACTUALLY VERY GOOD AND INTERESTING STORY AND LORE THAT IS ALREADY IN THE GAME IT'S BASED ON?!? Shadowverse has DAMN good character designs, and the general art, aesthetic, and feel of the world is VERY well executed, and even just among the few "playable" characters and campaign there's enough to build a show out of without even digging into the characters, stories, and lore presented in the cards themselves. As a mix media artist, with a “messy but intricate kinda aesthetic” gibiate should’ve been completely traditionally animated, only using digital art for effects and the like, and not on a weekly schedule. They could’ve gone bonkers with the art direction, going for a surreal and art house kinda vibe, but they didn’t. They tried to put the unconventional designs and aesthetics into a conventional box, and it didn’t work.
One of the things about Peter Grill that also makes me uncomfortable is the fact that the consent is also dubious on his part. He doesn't even seem to ENJOY cheating on his betrothed, nor does he seem to want any of the girls' sexual advances in the first place. Not to mention he tells them "no" multiple times.
Darkest Dungeon is amazing for a lot more than that. My personal fav aspect of the game being that the party members and their toxic teamwork are just as big of a threat to each-other as any of the monsters they face. Idk why I haven't seen that replicated more.
Darkest Dungeon really is awesome... Until the game decides that your characters won't hit shit and the enemies keep landing crits every second attack. Or if you keep on going for one more room without resting just for the game to decide "Here have a Shambler" in the next hallway.^^

For anybody thinking, “I want a good parody of RPG tropes”: go read “How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps”. The entire book is a gut-busting parody (the kind you only get from truly loving what you are parodying) of basically every old-school JRPG.
Probably not as good of a parody as what you mentioned, but I'm watching a comedy anime that's airing now called Dragon Goes House-Hunting, which while that is exactly the plot of the show, it also shows the world more from the point of view of what we would all consider the enemies of an RPG video game. And yet, from their perspective, they're just trying to live their lives and the heroes are all assholes aho keep trying to kill them, lol. I don't usually care for classic RPG's, but I've been loving how it feels like the fourth wall is often obliterated. I'm confused as to if they're actually in a video game or as they use gamer terms, if their world has what to them would be "slice of life" games (games modeled after their world with exploring dungeons and such), though in our world, this would just be an RPG. This isn't the main focus of the anime so it shouldn't be thought about too hard, but it adds to a lot of the comedy and there's a lot of subverted expectations.

The eugenics harem missed out on some potential, if it had drawn a line of severe consequences for his actions and his continued actions were a result of his new addiction to sex that perpetuated this harmful cycle to everyone around him. Hell the situations he finds himself in are comedic enough (its an anime) that they didn't really didnt need to beat us over the head with it. Let the situations be comedic and breath while showing us the consequences. Which would make him sympathetic without excusing his actions.
I mean, it’s not the kind of show I’d like to watch anyway, but if they had made his goal about “Finding true love” and believing his ‘true love’ to be pure girl and THEN getting swamped with horny sidecharacters it would basically solve the whole issue. If he believes that he’s in love with the girl but he’s not actually committed to her in anyway then you could basically keep the whole plot of him trying to get with her while hiding all the other things with none of the uncomfortable stuff. If you went a little deeper you could even make it an interesting take on what the difference between true love, infatuation and sexual attraction is.

Honestly you saying Peter wants a polyamorous relationship is giving him to much credit. He really just seems to want a bachelor's life style.
After watching all 12 episodes, I can safely say he doesn't emotionally want polyamory or a bachelor life but the dude has no impulse control (or even a brain from a lot of his choices) and cannot stand firm on his emotional wants and desires once tetas are in view. He is a simp-brain when there are no boobs involved and doesn't even enjoy the times he has but there was only one time it was legitimate r**e while the other times he just physically cannot resist with no good reasons.

Thanks for the recommendation. Bought it, read it, loved it. Although it's really more of a Zelda parody than JRPGs.

That doesn't seem so bad; at least not bad enough to rank 2nd worst anime of 2020.

20:10 sounds like another case where Brandon Sandersons "rules of magic" apply:
Rule One: An authors ability to resolve conflict satisfactorily with magic is directly proportional to how well the reader understands said magic.
Rule Two: Limitations are more interesting than powers.
Rule Three: Expand what you already have before you add something new.

We can learn from good stories... as well as we can learn from good stories as an opposite. I'm going to say it, detective/mystery/magician settings have no place having soft magic systems. And if they do hard magic, it had better have its foundation well explained. How is it even a mystery anymore if everything is an asspull?
Depends on how it's handled.

Well, what if the main character is a completely non-magical performative magician who spends the story bamboozling literal sorcerers with terrifying magical powers? That could work. Thought granted, I think it would work better if the magic is harder.

Welcome to new era isekai where you have an severe overcompensation to make up for the years blueballing the tv audience
