    Kotoubia Minaret was not constructed to mirror la Giralda simply because Kotoubia was constructed before la Giralda. And they both were constructed by the Almohad Dynasty who ruled both Morocco and Al Andalous. There is a third minaret in Rabat called Hassan tower which has the same style. Hope u had a good stay in Morocco.

    La Giralda was a mosque before it became a cathedral, and the Koutoubia mosque is a bit older than La Giralda, but build by the same Moroccan dynasty (almohads), infact they built 3 of them, 1 Seville(la Giralda), 1 in Marakech(Koutobia), and 1 unfinished in Rabat (hassan tower)

      Thanks for correcting!!! We were repeating what we heard so is nice to know the facts, I think people get easily confused. We actually head to the Hassan Tower in a future video! We hope you’ll stick around to watch it!

    Fantastic for not sowing any animal abuse I’m a moroccan and i have cats and dogs and hate to see any one treating animal they way they do in the square on many occasions no food or drinking water all day so the animal lover association in morocco are doing they are best to stop this cruelty and the only person can do that is the king because he loves animals too we hope so one day
    Thank very much have a great time

      Thank you!!! Unfortunately animal abuse is still deep rooted in a lot of cultures/traditions and it’ll take a lot of educating until it’s changed.
      We don’t like it advertised at all and I think the very least we can do is show no evidence of it on our videos.
      We’re really grateful that you appreciated that!!!
      Thanks for watching ❤

      I have just arrived back from Morocco and left heartbroken over the strays etc , one man in Tagazhout picked a cat up who just minding its own business and put it in a box then put it it a bin Weighed down with bricks. Had no way out but I knew he was going to do something because of the way he was . I turned round and saw him in and shouted at him , I released the cat , it was frantic . Just absolutely no need for the cruelty . I fed all of the cats and dogs I encountered on my travels . They deserve kindness and not to be beaten x

    • @ConnorandLivvy
      @ConnorandLivvy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vanyabriggs4521 so sorry to hear this! Morocco has an overwhelming amount of positives but also some negatives. Unfortunately the animal abuse issue is a big problem, we feel thankful that the only time we experienced any abuse was in the markets in both Marrakech & Fes.
      Totally agree that they need kindness, we do the same to stray cats & dogs!
      All we can do as tourists is stop it if we can & not to give attention or money to any of the animal street performers.
      It’s awful I know, i shed some tears over the monkeys - Livvy x

    • @ConnorandLivvy

      No! We never drank the tap water in Morocco as a precaution.
      In Tagazhout we got food poisoning and it made us really ill for a while :)

    The koutoubia mosquee was built to celebrate a huge victory over christians . The sultan built 3 mosquees actually .this mosquee, the rabat mosquee and Sevilla mosquee. Which was transformed to cathedrale later . Please check your history books before you share your info

    Greetings from the U.S. New subscriber here! This video is so timely. My husband and I are vegan and pretty sensitive to animal exploitation. We want to travel to Marrakech this fall and so I'm doing research now into how animals are treated there. Is there a large homeless animal problem? Thank you for the heads up on animals for so-called entertainment and for speaking up for them. You're exactly right - it's extremely cruel and the animals don't want to be doing it. I hope tourists take your advice! Safe travels and thanks for any advice you would like to give me.

    • @ConnorandLivvy
      @ConnorandLivvy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey!! Thanks so much for commenting.
      Despite being meat eaters we’re very sensitive to how animals are treated and hate any exploitation of animals for entertainment.
      There are a lot of stray cats but we didn’t see so many dogs about! Personally we didn’t see any stray animals being treated badly.
      I personally feel that Marrakech is slowly catering itself more for tourists and not having certain things on display - for example in the city Fes, the markets have quite gruesome animal products both alive and not / whereas Marrakech it’s primarily the things we stated & horse drawn carriages (equally bad!)
      I hope this gives you a clear answer, it’s better to be transparent than not!
      We loved Morocco but certain issues definitely are there.

    • @pacoandellie
      @pacoandellie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ConnorandLivvy Hey!!! Thanks for the your take on this issue, guys! Very helpful and really do appreciate the honesty. Better to be upfront. I'll stay away from Fes for sure. The horse drawn carriages are bothersome for me, too, as the horses are equally exploited. Thank you for your continued efforts to steer tourists away from paying money for cruelty to animals!

    Lovely video as always and I’ve really enjoyed your new travels starting In Morocco. I’ve enjoyed Morocco but we are 100 per cent the same as you regarding animals, it’s an absolute no no for us in any way and frankly angers me and sickens us both but It’s certainly not just Morocco . People seem amazing aswell. Can’t wait for the next one and safe travels you beautiful people 👍

    • @ConnorandLivvy

      The animal issue definitely bothered us in Morocco and took a lot of adjusting, we found you could stay out of the way of them rather than other places but still was rough. Unfortunately it’s a cultural thing ❤

    • @ConnorandLivvy
      @ConnorandLivvy  ปีที่แล้ว

      What a strange attitude to have? If someone gets this defensive over us not liking animal abuse it says a lot about that person.
      Do you think we support the death of the lions? Just because we haven’t denounced every case of animal abuse doesn’t mean we agree with it.

      That is the vast majority of mosques (we would know we have been to tons) - but for the Koutoubia mosque ‘non Muslims can’t go inside the mosque or the minaret, but can walk around the exterior’
      We can reference about five different information sources & different tour guides - you can find this information yourself as well which I’d love for you to do before sharing!!
